Ive been asking the same thing. This hoarding TP thing is just stupid as hell.

As far as I understood and read online, that toilet paper craze started when a local news outlet somewhere in Australia reported on a town that had a larger number of diarhea cases, so of course people would buy more toilet papers there. Then somebody on some social media outlet linked that to the Corona pandemic, more and more people spread this, thus more and more people thought that all the other people were buying toilet paper, so they had to buy toilet paper too and soon enough everybody wanted toilet paper, even though there was no need for it.

At least that is what I read online from somebody that tried to trace it back to the start.

That sounds so extremely outlandagely stupid that it could possibly be true. People are willing to believe just about anything. The more stupid it is the more they are willing to believe it.

For a while, it seemed like that particular aisle could start to hold stock for more then an hour. Then, Trump had to go and say something about this epidemic having the potential for lasting upwards of two years...

I don't know. This world seems to be running low on brain cells, or something. I mean, there's picketing in the streets to make the American lifestyle return to normal. Which will only mean a rising death count that gets there quicker.

This pandemic is a joke compared to other historical pandemics. The CCPvirus is killing somewhere about two percent of the people who catch it. The Spanish Flu killed about ten percent of the people who cought it. The Black Death wiped out entire cities to a man but killed about one third to one half of the people in Europe.

I'm not all that worried about this virus. If I catch it it will totally suck as I won't be able to work for the best part of a month but the chance of me actually dieing is not all that high.

Joke or not, it just proves my notion that society is a fragile thing. Undo just a few too many nuts and the whole machine goes flying apart into all directions.

It takes a great more than just a few issues to bring down an entire society. The Black Death pandemic that killed at least one third of the entire population of Europe did not cause the society to collapse all it did was to change things greatly and for the masses that survived for the better.

There are not that many examples of entire societies collapsing entirely. Rome is one, the bringing European diseases to the Americas that wiped out maybe as much as 90% of the native population, and the end of the bronze age is another. There may be a few others but not many. Mostly what happens is a society is changed but is not destroyed entirely.

We are living in the land of science fiction. That is for sure. Ancient times had primitive counter measures. They had little choice but to outlive the Black Plague. But now, we are testing things to see how the cards should fall. I'm sure the world will survive. But, it's living in fear. People are growing desperate to return life to normal, despite what unsteady governments are deciding for the masses. If people could just be more rational, society could slowly return to a stable state. Instead, we STILL got hoarders going for basics like TP. The meat industry is entering a new shortage wave. The whole structure of commerce is in upheaval. Who knows how many new residence the street is going to receive from people whom would have lived month by month were evicted from housing they could no longer afford. And I wouldn't be surprised if a desperate world with government forces thinking on all zones of the scale might do, once a cure is discovered. There was already pressure for making all school kids and their parents to get their shots for things that already existed. Wouldn't be surprised if a whole pressure to be immunized against Covid comes around to all parts civilized. I do kind of reflect on a joke by that ranting guy about how a shot for the flu left him in long term pain. Would such a rush job cure do more harm in the long run?

So, in summary, I have faith the world and Humanity survives this. And I trust that the fear is blown way out of proportion. It feels like a badly written horror script, after all. But, what is the world going to look like after it has all faded into history?
