I agree, Dave Filloini (sp) has done a damn good job on those shows - good story lines, scripts, great character work.
Rogue One - rather like it - editing was a bit weird and jumpy but it wasn't bad and I do watch it from time to time on dvd. Solo - was fun to see elements from The Splinter of the Minds Eye and the Lando novels worked into the current canon. I tended to ignore that one robot, focused on the action and loved Maul cropping up in the end

I liked Solo. And Rogue One was actually a good flick. Rest are garbage, but those two.. I'll give them a good pass for them.

But honestly, I'll never stop with #DisneyIsntCanon cause it isn't. "We don't have 500 page novels.." - K.K., then making up stupid shit when there was countless books (many of which I have, and half of them I've read).

I've been playing an old Star Wars game from the 90s that heavily drew on the EU and especially the Zhan novels. Its a weird feeling seeing all those names again, being used rather than ignored in order to promote the flashy and new. The old EU had its fair share of issues with things just not really working or making sense (the one author who made Mandalorians in to Jedi-killing machines, everything to do with the Yuuzhan Vong) but a lot had real merit. I hated Zhan's writing style, but there's no denying the Thrawn trilogy's impact on the fandom. I can only imagine that tossing it all out was motivated by the messy web of licensing the old EU had become (I'm assuming and hoping, honestly I have no idea how Lucasfilm conducted licensing for the novels prior to the Disney acquisition.).

Seriously, you didn't like Timothy Zhan's work? I'm not judging, but I really loved the stories he added, same with Karen Travvis. Oooohhh to have a Mando'a series scripted by her.. would never need Pornhub again. But to be honest, the only Zhan's work I've read is pre-DeathStar so far, so maybe things get more off-the-rails after that period.

It wasnt the content I disliked, it was his prose I found really frustrating. His use of saying "The other" in conversations made discussions between more than two characters really hard to follow. Mind you, I was trying to read them in elementary school and haven't looked at them since. I'd probably find them more accessible now.

They could raise it up universally, yeah. Personally though, I find that the locations typically required dim lighting; Corellia's underground ran by a light-sensative warlord, a few battle scenes in space or at night, a backwater Imperial outpost where they don't care about those without internally lit visors, a slave planet where the masters don't care about the labor's visibility, a dingy smoke-filled cantina, so those make sense to be darker. The snow planet with the train-jacking, scenes inside the ships, those were pretty well lit.

In all seriousness, I never bought a Star Wars toy at all. I spent my money on video games and when the prequel trilogy was out I bought every game, regardless of quality.

So it should come as that I have only bought Star Wars Battlefront and that was when it was dirt cheap. I did download and play Star Wars Commander which was a clash of titans with a Star Wars window dressing, but hey it wasn’t awful. I’ve heard good things about Fallen Order so I may buy it. But I’m very angry with what EA did with the Star Wars license.

man, when I was in elementary school I DEVOURED the EU books that was post 4-6 trilogy. I wasn't interested in the past, but the future. There was an aspect to the Star Wars EU that seemed so boundless and creative compared to the EU content they tried to do with DragonLance pertaining to stories outside of the main characters or the Draconians.

Among other details it depends on how far into the past you go. The Tales of the Jedi comics were great, playing out 5,000 and 4,000 years before Luke Skywalker.

Or they could just do a non-time specific SW story, and if it fails, we will not know when it was, and it can die as a non-specific thing...If it is a success, then they can say, when it was happening. Such a minor detail effectively quarantines the timeless-movie from the rest of the SW-stuff, until the success is confirmed.

Or you know, just place the movie 100-200+ years further away from the Skywalker stuff and you could make a clean start, with free power settings and such!

I also liked the "Super-weapon" of Kotor 1. It wasn't blowing up stuff at all, it was just making space fleets...tho' it was somewhat Dark Side bound, but other then that, it was just a ship making station. You could use that fleet however you wish...

Enter Mitth'raw'nuruodo. The REAL sequel trilogy was brilliant. I was rooting for Grand Admiral Thrawn to make at least one mistake at the last 10 pages of the last book, and He didn't...I was concerned for the rebels, since Thrawn never made a mistake. Those who know the story, can clearly see, why it ended so as it ended.

Also heard it somewhere, that Thrawn's brain/mind was hooked up to a simulator, and future generations of republic/rebel admirals last test was to try and beat the Thrawn Simulator...nobody succeeded in that. He's unbeaten even in death! How cool is that?

I didn't even know what to think about him at first. He is probably the least villainous true villain I know. A pure professional. His use of a cloaking device? Cloaking ships for a surprise attack became the brute force way of utilizing a cloaking device.

I don't know about the second half of your post, but I do remember when years later when someone put up a fake Thrawn the actor kept it up by simply playing on the legend how Thrawn could deduce stuff that seemed like magic until he explained it and even then it sounded incredible. The actor made stuff up and people believed it as long as he came up with an explanation.

I didn't red that novel, but heard it from someone, thus my loose memory of it.
I simply fangasm over Thrwan's brilliant strategy of cloaking a ship, entering behind the shield of a planet, then appear with His star-destroyer, threaten the planet to blast it to pieces, despite the fact of a fully functional shield around the planet. When the planet laughed about the idea of surrendering, Thrawn's ship gave one shot, which was neutralized by the shield, but at that location, the cloaked ship "continued the shot" in just the perfect moment (Thanks to Joruus C'baoth Dark Jedi Master's force meditation stuff) and blown a cornfield to oblivion. The planet only saw, that their un-penetrable shield was shot through with one simple blast, and thus they've surrendered!

Before that point, I was thinking: The cloaked ship will land and troops will take out the shield generator, or they'll take hostages. They could even fire directly into the center of a city!!!! Nope! Thrawn proved, that the planet's shield can be shot thru, and destroyed a field of corn...One shot. Zero casualties. Thrawn took the planet without bloodshed...AMAZING! That's pure strategy, and that's Grand Admiral Thrawn for you! #ThrawnBestGrandAdmiralEver!!!!

And the time He stole mining drills just to launch at a Sunshield Station to penetrate it's thick armor designed to hold out against the power of a sun??? Thrawn is simply a league far above other admirals in my eyes.

Not to forget he cloaked a few asteroids, shoots them into orbit, made sure the Republic notices one and with that took Coruscant out of the war as they couldn't drop the planetary shield. The entire Capital with their top people cut off in the middle of a war. A planet that depends on imports for food for the billions of inhabitants.

Quarantining Corusant was as brilliant of a strategy as everything Thrawn did! I literally waited the moment where He would fail/be wrong, just as His whole crew did...He never did a mistake. Rukh's "situation" was simply not in his scope to make plans against.

I saw this Planet Sealing tactic in an episode of Because Science, where it was explained, that blowing our satellites to smithereens would create so much planet orbiting space debris, that it would make reaching space impossible for hundreds of years.
