Yeah, caught this last night and started watching it. Kinda reminds me of a Beastars with humans. Not 100% on the style, but the jury is still out with me.

I like the action and character designs. Everything else about the show is "meh". The animation is noticeably cheap with a *lot* of still frames and speed lines.

I was debating watching that show. On your recommendation I’m going to give it a try.

it was kinda cheap, but I liked it well enough

I saw 3 episodes. It's enjoyable. Good visuals. I'll watch more. I have the impression that the target Japanese audience is lower & upper high school. The first 3 episodes seem to be hooks to catch that audience, and an introduction to the setting (enough so a viewer can see the deliberate similarities to and differences from Zootopia & Beastars. The plot does seem to be getting more complicated and starting by playing against tropes, and against the main character's idealization of the 'beastman city'.

Not impressed, really.

Might be an OK story but the style is bleh and the action is a joke.

The story is okay, but I kinda like the story.

Oh, I admit, after watching the full season... I do like the story, it's quite good.
Dubbing is not badly done, but captioning was *clearly* done before the dub because half the time the two are wildly different.

I think the writing in anime has improved dramatically in the past 5 or 10 years. Once they got out of that countercultural Ennui, and started funding projects from Light Novels, rather than the most popular stories in the manga weeklies, we got stories with deeper characters, and solid, unambiguous endings (Thank God).

I prefer subtitles, because the "acting of the Voice actors is better usually in the original language( and I speed read). Most of the American voice actors are not the best. (only one time did I think that they did a good job, and that was "The Running Man" by Haruki Kadokawa, when it was broadcast on MTV's Liquid Television, they had Martin Sheen do the world weary voice over for the main character, but when the short was included on a video, they used just some no-name Voice actor, and it lost a lot of its impact.

Animation still blew chunks, tho.
That's the style that turns me very sharply *away* from Anime, though some of the stories and such are well worth watching.

I'd had this on my radar for a while and I finished watching it yesterday. I like it, although the story could be better.

Overall, I thought it was a fun series. That music, tho~ Such earworms!

Okay, watched the whole thing. And after episode 5 where the Tanuki suddenly gets massively huge arms and later the ability to fly. I started seriously disliking it. Then really disliked it towards the end. Outside the Mink and albatross, I just didn't care for the show or the characters.

Beastars has its flaws too, but overall the characters more rounded and enjoyable. Plus the animation is far better.
