Thought of the day 25AUG2020
so I have noticed a problem with YCH's lately from artists who render HQ paintings... Their YCH's get auto bought really fast. I find that way too often that if I do not AB bid as soon as the YCH goes up, ill never get the slot I want and this is starting to get a little ridiculous. A few weeks ago I saw one that was AB bid out in 15 min for 300 euro... I mean it's great for the artist good for you, but it sucks when someone has some extra money and is searching FA for something, find it, only to find out that it was already bought days before the auction ended.
With that being said, If I ever start doing art again for profit ((which I may, I haven't decided yet. I wanna work on my skills first and maybe get some streams going before I start doing this again)) these are the rules I would make for AB bids:
- AB bids cant be placed until 24hrs have passed since the YCH was posted
- AB bids are only available after regular bids hit a certain amount ((i.e. SB is $50 and AB won't be available till say $150 in regular bids))
- Regular bids maximum increase is set to a certain amount (( + $5, means you cant bid more than + $5))
- you can not bid over yourself just to increase the minimum AB bid amount, If you do, you will be disqualified and removed from bidding. However, you could outbid someone who outbid you as many times as you like
- AB bid would be 2x the current bid or min AB threshold after the 24hrs are up and the minimum AB threshold is hit in bidding (say that after 24 hours the current bid is $150, but the minimum bid for the AB threshold after two days is $75, then the AB bid price would be $300))
I think setting rules like this will increase the profits of artists while also giving others a damn chance to bid on art without having to worry about the slot getting yanked out from under them before they even get a chance. YCHs should be a starting point for most new artists as well as a tool to give others a chance who can't seem to catch a break in getting a commission from you. The main point, stop letting AB bids ruin the fun!
