Did you know the greatest film of all time is Street Fighter the Movie starring Raul Julia..... yes I am drunk but sober hold this opinion too very hard.
"The road not taken. But why? Why do they still call me a warlord? And mad? All I want to do is to create the perfect genetic soldier! Not for power, not for evil, but for good. Carlos Blanka will be the first of many - they shall march out of my laboratory and sweep away every adversary, every creed, every nation, until the very planet is in the loving grip of the Pax Bisonica. And then peace will reign, and the world, and all humanity, shall bow to me in humble gratitude..."
Which all makes perfect sense. Maybe not today, but if a man like that were to succeed, then in a hundred years he'd be praised a hero for his accomplishments by those who grew up in the world he created, no matter how much of a villain he was perceived as being in his time.
It's one of those movies where, no matter how many times I watch it, my brain just refuses to compute, and I never remember anything that happens, because it's too strange and alien to comprehend
Raul Julia is my god, but fucking yah Zangief is gold in that film up with DJ. *truck full of explosions coming at them aired on tv* Zangief "Quick, change the channel!"
Yeah. They totally nailed the "all brawn and no brain" trope without making him moronic in an off-putting manner.
I haven't seen that movie since I was a kid, but I should probably try to pick it up on DVD at some point. Would fit perfectly on my shelf alongside Super Mario Bros. as a bad movie I love no matter what anybody else says.
I get criticisms people have, but it's just fun to watch, and frankly if it were too faithful to the source material I'd find it boring and uninspired. I much prefer when licensed movies take liberties to create something unique, with the source material being more a foundation for that creativity rather than a guideline for how the movie should be.
I was never into Dead or Alive, so forgot that movie even existed, so much so that I don't even remember if I ever knew it existed in the first place. My only experience with the series was a friend who owned I believe the second or third one, which I played with him a few times. I have seen Mortal Kombat though, which I feel is objectively one of the better video game movies because contrary to the things I said above, that one actually felt like you were watching the game come to life more so than most. Too bad Armageddon was so much worse.
I've also seen Detective Pikachu, which was all right, and have been meaning to watch the recent Sonic movie but haven't had the time or chance. The only other video game movie I can think of that I've seen was Tomb Raider, but that's a franchise I have zero history with, having not bothered to even try the games as a kid because I was under the impression they were garbage games only popular because of horny teenagers obsessed with Lara's breasts. It's only relatively recently that I've heard tell that they're actually good games, although still not of the variety I'd be interested in. That movie though I only saw because it was a random case of a friend who was going to see it, and he invited me along.
I mean I've never played a game of Dead or Alive and my only experience with Street Fighter games was once playing arcade cabinet of Street Fighter the Movie the Game after seeing the film.
You would think that title alone would've told the developers that maybe making a game based on a movie based on a game wasn't the most necessary idea.
