I can't speak for everyone, but I love contemporary conceptualizations of varied culture's music. When left only to the authentic period sounds, it can often be a little too bland. I think some pretty awesome sounds can come from adding a new coat of paint, so to speak.

Huge fan of Viking music here. Danheim and Wardruna are my two favorite Viking bands. Voluspa by Wardruna is my go-to for pre-basketball battle music and Solringen is just hauntingly beautiful.
