Regarding My MUGEN Content, Patreon, and the Freebies
5 years ago
General
So, I've stated this before, but I'll say it again as a prelude.
While I have a patreon for my MUGEN WIP content, I do plan to release the "finished" versions of characters once they are at that level.
I cannot say for sure "WHEN" any of these WIP characters will be released for free. While I don't think $5 is a huge ask for a month of updates from me, I understand and have no issue if you don't want to. That's totally fine, I get it. Please don't ask or nag me about when that's happening for any of my characters. I've been gettin this a lot more lately.
Being a butt and complaining about how long it takes me to get the finished, free character out also don't help. If you're that eager, toss $5 to my patreon for that month, get the in-dev update and leave. It's exactly why I'm putting out WIP versions with rough unfinished animations, so I can focus on the gameplay of them up front, making the WIPs functional before pretty.
I don't even expect anyone to stay in continuously. I even give out free months to subscribers when I under-perform and feel that I haven't made any major updates, and I simply don't want people paying for what they don't get.
Plan and simple, I'm one guy, with ADHD, who's making 900+ animation assets per character on top of other things like code, testing and anything else I need to make for the characters. I also have other obligations, like commissions, which help pay bills and shit. I have to put a lot more time into that, and I'm certainly not exactly the best with consistent speeds. I've gotten better over the last year, but I'm still learning how to be quicker and more focused.
If I was gettin a significant amount of money to put a huge dent in my bills, I would absolutely put a lot more time into the game work, but I don't currently. What's feeding me is what I have to work more on. Commissions are exactly that right now.
Shit's a lot of work, but it's a passion project for me and something I really want to do. I ask for a small bit for early access as support if you like what you see. You aren't entitled to my work for free. I could just as easily just keep the work to myself like I did for years while I played around with the first version of Jeibu that I never released. I later refined my mechanics and made Gejhi, who I did release. I'm also going to be doing MORE work on Gejhi; updating his animations to a bit higher quality. I was going to do this before release, but I also didn't wanna delay him any longer and I wanted to get on to making more of my critters.
So, please dun be a butt.
EDIT!:
I don't want to send the wrong vibes here. I've gotten lots of supportive comments and such far, far more than anything nagging and negative. It's just an increase in this sort of stuff that's been popping up more that made me want to address it.
Seriously though, thanks to all who have been awesome, and especially those who are contributing to my patreon to help fund the time I've been putting into it. <3

FA+

best to leave the artist to their own devices and let things happen naturally for them.
sorry to hear your fans have been so impatient with you!
just keep your head up and dont pay those impatient nellies any mind!
Overwhelmingly, I've felt very well appreciated. I've just been gettin an increase of stuff mentioned in this journal to a point of it being noticeable, so I wanted to address it.
Thanks much <3
Keep at it <3
I get anxious about all the lingering stuff I have unfinished at any given time. I hate taking long to do it. Sadly, I'm always most focused when it's physically active work. Sitting down and wanting to animate for hours is the issue with my ADHD addled brain. Hahah. I'm figuring stuff out bit by bit though. I'm trying to figure out what I do on certain days that seems to click the best for it.
Even more if your character is nicely done (Frames in characters and effects)
Currently i'm actually making one of my characters so i can play it in MUGEN.
But holy s... it's taking so much time...
And it's quite tiring......
Also, nice! It can be fun to work on, just don't burn yourself out either.
