The vilifications I mentioned don't follow a common theme. So I can't really answer your question, sorry.

This happens to literally everyone now. People have tried to "cancel" me for refusing to get involved in "cancel campaigns" against people I've never even heard of, labeling me a "white knight" or a "sympathizer" when I have no feelings one way or another on a subject of controversy that I know next to nothing about and doesn't involve me in any way.

They're dangerously simplistic black-and-white thinkers also in a way that's a code 5150, something that they claim that only autistic people like me can be that. In their defective minds, you're either an A-log or a whiteknight, nothing outside of those two. Society also says that putting words into people's mouths is only possible if the person is either mentally challenged or pure evil.

I hate this trend. It sickens me to see people go around trying to smear someone through simple hearsay, either out of misguided facts or simply willing to lie to hurt someone they don't like.

As a general rule of thumb, I avoid judging anyone based on "oh I know them, they did bad things, you shouldn't like them" and only on hard evidence, not some easily faked or overly vague shit.

I've been on the receiving end of a bit of this before, being judged by people who never once talked to me because of what someone else said to them. It's a really scummy thing to do.

this person is trying to emotionally back you up and you still tread on glass about the 'cancel culture' thing. Are you accepting of the idea that somebody should be tied to everything they ever said in the past? Not sure why you would want to point out 'nuance' if there's actual defamation going on, or if you think the issue is overmagnified. This kind of fencesitting actually makes you a little flaccid-feeling to anyone who might otherwise agree with you. It sucks that you have to 'take a side', but that's kind of how it is with this one. Sometimes, taking a side is the right thing to do.

I point out nuance because deplatforming someone who does real harm and refuses to make any changes to themself is good, while false allegations ruining someone's reputation is bad. That is not fence-sitting, it is the difference between right and wrong.
