Also, on 50 Shades. That book is legitimately dangerous to people who are thinking of getting in to the BDSM lifestyle because the behaviors of the 'dom' in that book are controlling and abusive in the worst ways. Its a normie's idea of what BDSM is and it's not safe. (Aside from it being just a terribly written book besides).

Yea that argument would hold some water IF there weren't episodes where HE is the one on the recieving end, it only takes a moment to remember that, just saying. If you want to talk about something not aging well, just look at 50 Shades, the moment it came out it was already aged horribly, but the lonely and delusional single moms "loved" it.

Its been decades since I saw a pepe cartoon, so I'm speaking on what stuck with me. I can only really think of one where it backfired on him and it was the one where it was the panther (I think, I cant remember) he tried to go after and got repeatedly mauled.

And yeah like I said, with 50 Shades it was someone who is firstly a horrible author and secondly has no idea what a healthy BDSM relationship is.

There were multiple times in the old cartoons where Penelope mauls him as well. Not to mention other times where the roles get reversed.

well, i grew up with these cartoons and while i admit, some of them are a bit dicey, it is very clear that its not played for seriousness and is merely a catalyst to kickstart the slapstick hijinks that the looney toons are known for. and like  Mate397 said, there's been episodes where the roles were reversed and Pepe was the one on the receiving because... well, everyone was fair game, really. Bugs Bunny didn't win all the time either even though that is what our Nostalgia clouded memories would like us to believe.

besides, there is two other important factors that need to be considered

number one: the cartoons being made today are often drastically different from the cartoons back in the 30's and 40's because we, as a human society, have evolved in more ways than one which left some jokes as cringe. I don't think they would make the setup for the slapstick like this nowadays.

number two: in my opinion an even more important thing to keep in mind than the first one i made: the Looney Toons are kinda assholes... all of them. like, there is literally no exception, each and every one of them is being an asshole in one way or another. Pepe for instance is an asshole because he can't take the hint and continues to pursue poor Penelope, i completely agree on that one... however, Penelope isn't exactly a saint either now, is she?

I mean, she clearly sees that Pepe is very interested in her. what with him putting on the charm and all... now, Penelope isn't interested, which is nothing bad per say, however the reason she isn't interested in him is because he's a skunk. this in on itself can open up a small rabbithole where you can ask questions whether that could be considered racism against skunks or that she's a shallow, arrogant stuck up who refuses to see past the natural defensive stink of a skunk. I mean, she never really actually tries to talk things over with Pepe. she never tries to just say "hey, I'm sure you're a nice guy and I'm very flattered but I'm not interested, I'm sorry". not even a throwaway made up lie on the spot like "sorry, I have a boyfriend" or "sorry, I'm married" or something like that, usually simple and easy sentences that get most guys to back off and walk away. Penelope doesn't do any of that. every time Pepe approaches her, Penelope's immediate reaction is usually with her trying to bolt and run away as far as she can. no real attempt at communication.

and yeah, speaking on the way of assholes and how all of the Looney Toons are assholes... yeah, let's not forget the many fucked up and assholish things other Looney Toon characters have done to each other. prime example: Bugs Bunny whom I vividly remember tormenting an opera singer in retaliation for a relatively minor offense... come to think of it, Bugs Bunny has a very disturbing track record of dishing out disproportionate malicious retaliation for relatively minor offenses against him now, doesn't he?

Fifi might not be related to Pepe, but Fifi is much younger than him as the cast of Tiny Toons were teenagers of 14 or there around, including Fifi la Fume. The Looney Tunes cast were there at the school as professors teaching the Tiny Toons about tooning.

They're a double act and for a the sake of this this story so many people are overlooking Penelope is one half of this whole show.
