I would suggest asking  -star-. She's magnificent. She prefers wildlife and nature painting, but I have no doubt she's capable with humans as well. Some stuff has gone wrong for her lately and while it's possible she won't be able to, it may be right up her alley right now. It's worth checking out regardless methinks. ^..^

*nods* I know her work. The problem is that she does more photorealism, which is not what Casey is looking for - he's looking for a Renaissance-style "old-fashioned" painting. But I'll suggest her to him.

She posts up photorealism and she's definitely strong in it, but I'm pretty sure I've seen her do other stuff here. Asking never hurts. ^..^

I know she does other work (like her sketchier digital work, and cute cartoon style). Also, my boyfriend isn't particularly fond of her work (I've tried to show him in the past) or her prices :b But I told him, anyway.

Tis true, I can understand the pricing most especially. XD They're actually really good prices for what you're getting and the size of the pieces, plus she tends to frame them as well, and frames alone are hella expensive. I've had some dealings with her and she's very nice. If nothing else, she might be able to direct you to some people who do work closer to what you're looking for. ^..^

Plus, like Chrismukkah's though pattern, I'd expect an artist with such realistic mastery to know how to achieve other art styles and probably have a decent idea of their own limitations. The fact that a lot of her stuff is oil paints is a big step up since that's the medium you might be lookin at. ;p

I agree more with the latter part than the former, but yeah. I'm sure she definitely knows her limits as an artist, and a good artist is generally capable in more than one specific style or medium... but not always. Just because an artist is good at one style doesn't mean they will necessarily be good at others. In fact, it's often quite difficult to break away from your personal style to try to do someone else's - it feels forced and not quite right, although some artists are quite good at this.

Yeah, it was one of the reasons she was one of the first people I thought of, because she IS extremely skilled and practice in oil/acrylic. It's just not necessarily enough. Again, it's up to my boyfriend, and he's not particularly fond of her style.

Had meant more, she would likely know how the style is achieved, layers and blending and such rather than the way it came out, sounded like I was saying she'd just be able to do it. ;p

^..^ Hopefully he'll at least ask if she's capable of achieving another style, and then assuming that she would want to. Main reason I did suggest her, even with her photorealism, is because she is in need of cash and if she's able to do the renaissance look he wants (I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take nearly as long as her p.r. pieces ;p) she might break for it.

Like I said, I'm not sure that she paints, but she very well may. Don't let all the porn in her gallery fool you; I originally found her through dA because of her portraits.

*nods* I've seen her pet portraits and such. I just don't think she's what my boyfriend is looking for - they have to be really skilled in oil/acrylic AND be able to emulate Renaissance-style art (if they didn't, I could do the painting myself).

Renascence influenced portraits are my faverite thing to do in the real world. :-D

Heh, unfortunately it's not about realism. It's really the style and medium - there are lots of realistic, talented painters that I know of, but most of them are digital, and none of them specialize in Renaissance-style painting.
