Sizing up? Well, in size, there would be no contest. Night is almost twice as big as Boomer. But, when it comes to personality, they are both loving, protective, kind souls, so it would be a tie. ^_^

Seriously, though, it depends on the setting. Under normal circumstances, most of my OCs wear footwear of some sort, ranging from sandals to combat boots.

LOL! Well, the inhabitants of this world enjoy wearing clothes, partly for protection from the elements and partly because they enjoy fashion.

Shoes are more or less optional in my story world, though I've always imagined that, in my primary setting, which has a fantasy medieval flavor, something similar to ancient Roman caligae are commonly worn by people in dangerous occupations, such as soldiers, or when undertaking certain hobbies or activities, such as mountain climbing. The same applies to my more modern setting, albeit with more modern footwear such as sneakers or modern boots. Members of the various royal families almost always wear at least some kind of practical footwear, and practical clothing in general, really, because they are traditionally expected to taken an active role in society and lead from the front, as it were. Hoofed creatures such as horses typically don't, though many anthro horses will wear fancy horseshoes for decorative purposes. Farriery is as much a fashion industry as a practical one in some circles.

It seems our royals have similar customs. However, horses and hoofed animals aren't residents, they are food.

Since bears do not have retractable claws, shoes are a rather poor idea - unless needed for protection. And even then they tend not to last all that long.

I can imagine, but there are special shoes that they wear in my universe, so their claws are not an issue. ^_^

To answer your question, also not on FA in general *blagh* :p

For my science fiction setting, most rianths (furries) will wear some form of protective footwear. Most will do so in order to protect their feet from things like walking on concrete, or on the decks of starships, as well as for heat retention (cold feet are awful). While many do have appropriate footpads, for many digitigrades there's weight distribution issues, while for the plantigrades and digitigrades alike there's multiple reasons (safety, comfort, and cleanliness predominant).
In ones' house or such, this of course is a VERY optional thing, as is true in most houses currently IRL.
Stylistically, note, for casual footwear, some of the footwear is open-toe for fashion reasons (though these will usually possess a sole, possibly with a sandal-like toe strap), though anything meant for serious protection will be fully enclosed. The few hooved species in the setting make use of polymer hoof cappings to prevent hoof splitting and damage as well as to enhance traction. These are often paired with a knee-to-top-of-hoof decorative (or sometimes protected) leg wrap/warmer/boot-like upper. In harsher environments this can be traded in for a clamshell boot.

Open exposed shoes are what some of the people wear. Folks with particularly long claws on their feet have the front open so that the claws won't do any damage to the shoe. I don't have any herbivore animailans (anthropomorphic creatures). Herbivores are all as they are normally. They are food for the people of this world, as all of the animalians are terrestrial carnivores. Lions, wolves, tigers, bears, etc, those are among the animalian species.

Whereas mine are the after-effects of both corporate development and human transformation (cheaper to change people to fit a planet than a planet to fit the people), and much later on an actual FASHION trend in altering ones' self. Thus, you end up with an insane mish-mash of species, some just barely within the bounds of genetic viability. All, though, can trace their ancestry to humankind (on the sapient side), and over 85% of these to Terra/Earth/Sol System for their animal-side genetic heritage.

My OC's started out barefooted, but since fashions at the time called for girls to wear slouch socks, and I was positioning my characters to dress like people you'd see everyday, I simply dead-ended the socks at the ankle. Nowadays, and for the past couple of decades, I draw them wearing shoes because I can draw them reasonably correctly, to the point that viewers often recognize specific styles.

For the purposes of stories (or rather, the lack of an overarching plot), my characters are based in a reality that acknowledges their existence as drawings and as such can intersect any number of other creator's realities for the purpose of cross-interaction. Whatever mode of dress a visitor or background character defaults to can carry over into any given situation open to guest star, walk-on or walk-through roles. As an example, one of my OC's is a nudist who sees no point in clothes or shoes, given fur as a body covering and feet naturally not needing footwear, (though she's never been in rough environments or subject to protocols requiring either). Her housemates simply grew to treat her as just being an odd duck since her naughty bits weren't visible during everyday activities.

For those not familiar with my roster, the phrase as stated is a better known one.

In my char world, shoes are optional in day-to-day life among 'Domestic' species. However, formally they are expected, and in situations where safety is a bit more tenuous. On the other hand, 'Wilds' are often seen wearing something along the lines of foot bindings or moccasins.

Is that right? I always imagine the ladies having some interesting choices for footwear, since their options are way more versatile. Don’t get me wrong, I’m always going to love, and have a hard time keeping my eyes off the ladies’ feet at the same time!

LOL! Yeah, in the Sweet Shoppe tales, the cats generally don't wear shoes, since the climate is always hot on the island of Calico. But, when visiting other regions, they may need footwear. But, just because they don't always wear shoes, it doesn't mean that their feet are always bare. ^_^ ...but, if you want to enjoy the feet, there will be plenty for you to enjoy. ^_~

And of course Plum's always going to get the majority of those stares from me (even though I'm sure she'll probably reprimand me for it, but I hope she will take it as a compliment), but that doesn't mean the other ladies won't, too!

As long as she doesn't see you, you'll be alright. And even if she does, just get Sweetheart on your side and she will help you out of a jam. ...although, if you bring Tange and Candy into it, you may never be forgiven! LOL! ^_^

Both my main characters Bullet Crow and Phantom Bunny originally wore footwear. Phantom Bunny lost her shoes first toward the end of the original strip because I thought bare feet were cuter. Bullet Crow stopped when I started drawing him nude on furry sites.

When the clothes come off, the shoes get lost!

I'm a paw guy, so my characters go barefoot pretty much constantly, and they enjoy it. They do things like making their sidewalks out of flexible rubber (like this) so they're more comfortable to walk on. They don't wear shoes for fashion or formal occasions either. They only use footwear when safety demands it (dangerous work, hazardous environments, etc.); to them, wearing shoes in everyday life would be out of place as wearing a hardhat when you're not on a construction site. Also, none of my characters have pads or claws, and hooved species like goats have paws instead (a la Toriel).

Sounds similar to my Sweet Shoppe characters and their take on footwear. Although, their streets and sidewalks are not made of rubber. Roads are generally dirt roads and sidewalks are either cobblestone, cement or wooden.
