Hi guys,
I know its been a while, I just havent had the will to do much as I have been sick going on 7 weeks now, and have only just been able to make an appointment with the doctor.
I am hoping we can figure out whats going on with my body, and its not something serious.
---
Anyway, I wanted to discuss something.
My husband and I got into a conversation yesterday about the Police in the UK and how from what I have seen, they are totally disregarded and not respected, its crazy to me, I have always supported and respected the police where I grew up, and every single time I ever saw a cop in life, I would always thank them for their service. I would go out of my way to drive and park next to them, and thank them as well. I've always done it.
When I moved to the UK seeing the police in public aside from driving was a rare thing, and even now I dont take it for granted when I do see them.
I was in a grocery store late one night and two cops came in, I walked up to one, and I said "I just want to thank you for your service, and say that we appreciate you"
the cop turned, and looked at me and said "You are the first person in my entire career who has ever said that to me, thank you so much, you made my night"
other UK cops look at me funny, or laugh, but I always get a "Thank You" - I think its because it renders them in disbelief that someone could actually support and appreciate them. And to me that is SAD. WE NEED TO DO BETTER.
I know the cops here have a dangerous job, minus the guns, but sometimes they still do have guns, and I feel so bad for them. I feel like the cops are regarded as some kind of controlling group of people, not a goverment agency and its sad.
Yes, I get the frustration, as they give out tickets, for silly reasons and some of the laws here are silly. Like, getting 6 points for doing 5 over on the roads, but there has to be a reason for it, there wouldnt be a law if there wasnt.
I feel so bad for the cops here, the lack of support and appreciation that I have seen is so sad. Especially now, with Corona, they are out there constantly putting their lives, and health at risk, and people are treating them terribly.
Its the same in the USA now isnt it? our police are also regarded as a controlling group instead of a government agency.
Well, I wont stop respecting and appreciating them, and most of all I wont ever stop thanking them for their service. I've been doing it my entire life. And now, when I see the UK Cops who dont expect it, have never even heard those words from a member of the public, it makes me feel like I can make their day a little brighter.
WE NEED TO DO BETTER.
