It could not have been all on your shoulders to keep the company afloat. Takes a large group to do get something 95% right sometimes.

It's a small company. If I'd been better at my job, maybe we wouldn't have lost the clients. Maybe they wouldn't have had doubt about the systems.

Personally, I still believe that one of the clients might have been retained, but made getting rid of me a condition.

Ah, I see what you mean. Seems like the smaller companies have much less room for error than the companies wifh hundreds of employees.

Unfortunately some clients will go that far in their demands. I've never really understood why axing a particular employee will fix the problem.

Don't put all of the blame on yourself. It would not have gotten to this point if your employer knew what they were doing as an employer. Coding isn't something you're somehow just good at, it's something you have to learn and keep learning. If your employer somehow misjudged the state of your ability and also didn't offer you any opportunity to learn enough to do what you had to do, then what were they expecting?

There's still plenty to blame myself for. Maybe if I'd been a little more diligent in testing. Maybe if I'd tested it slightly differently and found the bugs that I walked into instantly when doing a demo, yet never saw in an entire days worth of testing.

Either way, it's done now. The fuck-ups are not getting unfucked, so just got to move on after a socially acceptable period of extra depression.
