Late night NPR is magical
While working evenings does force me to do a lot of driving at night, it's also exposed me to the wonderful slew of random content that NPR plays during their graveyard shift.
Most of it as of late is a collection of odd short stories and documentaries about really oddball topics like Freedom House and the start of paramedicine or the 52Hz, the loneliest whale. Those two I just mentioned really resonated with me because of how novel I found both of them compared to all the other media I follow on Reddit and YouTube.
My favorite random middle-of-the-night NPR pick as of late would have to be the story of Gobi, a little mutt that followed an ultramarathon runner throughout his race in Northern China and the struggle he went through trying to bring her back home. It was a really sweet story and one that I ended up recommending to a bunch of people that same night. I don't know how many of my recommendees actually bothered to listen to it given it's a healthy 24 minutes long, but I love thinking about the idea of at least one of them giving it a shot and leaving half as happy as I did from my car that night.
(and of course I'd totally recommend giving anything else I just mentioned a listen, too!)
