This is what I think...
Had a dream that very much like the anime Strike Witches, but at the same time very different. Looked like real life for the most part, little bit VR game at times.
There were these monster things or otherwise aliens, don't recall a specific definition going either way.
They were kind of crab like but also octopus or squid like, looked a lot like Mirelurks from Fallout 4 and 76 but had tentacles, and the big bad boss was like a giant mutated Mirelurk Queen.
They were mostly black or carbon/charcoal coloured with some low saturation red mixed in, like the enemies from Strike Witches but not sci-fi tech looking like them.
Instead of using magic to fly it was more like super soldier ground fighting mixed with some water combat, didn't see enough of the world to tell if it was modern or set in a similar time period as the shows during the 40's.
I recall that I wore a bomber jacket like coat, had longer hair than normal for me which is usually shoulder to mid back length but instead was around my ass in length, I used a shortened pump shotgun and rapier for weapons. Unlike the show the ones fighting with magic were not only girls/women but boys/men as well, and age didn't seem to be the biggest issue, though I suppose I don't recall hearing/seeing any specific ages mentioned. There was a moment where I was alone, fighting off the person sized creatures that had attacked a dock or small port I was in, I remember either running out of ammo or my gun jamming and having to use my sword. The creatures were pretty nightmarish and gross to fight, the mutant queen was difficult for it's own reasons of being absolutely massive and staying in and under the water unlike the smaller man sized ones that came onto land. If I had to estimate, the queen was about as big as a battle ship or maybe a zeppelin would be more accurate with it's body shape, was more squid like than the small ones and had huge tentacles that could reach onto land.
There was a moment where we were all gathering for a big fight, saw all kinds of people who seemed to be a part of the military group we were in, had an altercation with some douchbag who looked more like they belonged in Top Gun. I remember that the battle with the queen took place on a beach or otherwise coastline, and that at some point I thought I saw ghostly apparition of my dead mother who had also fought the creatures on that beach. When the battle was over I informed my commanding officer along with my report, they didn't seem so much concerned as they did surprised, as if to say this wasn't that weird just uncommon for magic soldiers? We only managed to push the queen back out to sea, it proved too massive to take on with our equipment and combat style but also too close to land/base for a huge bomb or something.
