I forgor
The Grand Budapest Hotel.
TL;DR if you want a funny movie that isn't a traditional comedy, but happens to be an enchanting story which fills itself with charming eccentricity while keeping you laughing and fixated on the world the script goes on inside of, watch this movie.
Just, wow, holy shit for a long list of reasons. First, the cinematography. The symmetry in shots, the robotic camera movements, sneaky microdirecting shining through and the switching between aspect ratios to evoke different time periods. Film nerds know the name Wes Anderson for a reason. Second, the colour palette. Purple, pastel, warm and inviting, you name it. It's always like a painting, it's always changing, and always beautiful.
The entire film is a hilarious, charismatic, colourful, playful masterpiece with great characters and organic synergy between them. The movie takes place in a country that doesn't exist, in a time that's lost forever, from a period of history that only survives in old photo albums and dusty filmreels, but you still feel overwhelming charm and nostalgia and it makes you want to jump into its world. It's like a storybook.
Just go watch it, you won't be disappointed. I promise
