“Things don't go wrong and break your heart so you can become bitter and give up. They happen to break you down and build you up so you can be all that you were intended to be.”

"No..." she whispered, again, looking ahead at how far from the entrance was from where she stood. On a regular day, the distance wasn't that great. However, on this day, it was as though the divide was endless.
"...no." she said. "...no. ...not this one." she said, yet unlike the whispers she breathed moments before, this was not a silent prayer. This was a declaration.
Slowly, she began to walk, again. "I won't let you take her." she vowed, with determination and conviction, as she forcefully increased her pace. Her immobile arm dragged across the wall, painting the concrete red with her furious blood.
"You will NOT take her." she hissed, her desperation displaced by a rising anger.
Once again, she forced her body onward, increasing her pace with each step. The flesh of her exposed limb began to tear apart from arm. If she felt the pain, she gave no indication that she had, as she plowed forward through the cool, raging water. The only pain she felt, was anguish over her sister, stolen by the sea.
"YOU WILL NOT TAKE HER!" she screamed.
All at once, as though hearing and understanding the eldest sister's command, the wave that came from the distant sea and had invaded the shores of Calico City, decimating its people...
...stopped.

Oh wow! That's some determination there!
Yes, she is a very loving big sister. She fought to save them both, but lost one. She vows to not lose the second.
