Furry comics (let's discuss them because I want to make o...

For a long time, I've always written "I want to make a comic with this character someday!!!", but now I want to get serious about it. My only problem is that it's hard for me to decide which kind of comic to make, which genre, which character type, which contents and situation, etc. So I think it might help me to talk with everyone about furry comics in general, since I've never really taken the time to. I think it should be easier to figure out where to focus if I actually discuss this instead of keeping all my thoughts to myself.
Of course, this is also kind of an excuse to geek out about our favorites, so don't hesitate to join in just for fun.
So far, my goal is a gay erotic comic with original characters (and enough length to be printed as a standalone issue at least). Since I don't have any genre/tone/content preference (because I have favorites in all of them), what I'm thinking about now is "what does everyone want to see right now?", taking into account that the great furry comics past and present have covered a lot of ground already.
Softcore? Hardcore?
Vanilla? Kinky?
Slice-of-life? Romance? Adventure?
Realistic? Sci-Fi/Fantasy?
Comedic? Dramatic?
Etc.
Also on my mind is "what kind of guys should I feature?", which is an even harder question for me since my tastes in furry guys cover an inconveniently wide range (including but NOT limited to: young men to grandpas, tiny to huge, macho hunks and femboys, handsome gentlemen and grungy sleazeballs, jocks and nerds, humanoid and monstrous, scrawny, skinnyfat, slim, fit, chubby, thick, beefy, etc - I'm naming popular archetypes for convenience here, but I really like all kinds of dudes, even those that don't have their own archetype). Again, I'm hoping that I'll be able to better understand where to focus by talking about it all.
Again though, feel free to think of this as "let's talk about furry comics!". Even if this doesn't result in whatever breakthrough I'm looking for, hopefully it can be fun at least.

In terms of genre, how much kink you want to involve etc., I would say the best approach would be to go into your head and think about the questions of "what kind of character/setting can I draw that won't wear itself out with me?" and "am I going to be interested in continuously drawing these characters that many times?".
I hope this can help a little clearing up how to approach this.
That said, grungy sleazeballs with lots of hardcore kink all the way.
I would definetly say people love slice of life stuff. I do too but I am also a huge sucker for cliche plots. There is really no way of pleasing everyone so the plot and characters you chose to make for them should be something you deeply enjoy. As it is your OC project it can be as self indulgent as you want it to be we are here for the ride and to support it.
However a word of warning, your project will get leaked. Not saying that there is no way of preventing it but people are thirsty and if you decide to so patreon early access stuff don't feel discouraged if sites get leaked on release. DRM protect your files and maybe keep a close early access to public release date schedule.
Simplified process I use: written concept, divide it into pages, script the pages (describe panels, what each will show, text in each panel), sketch the pages (all of them) incl word balloons, finalize the lines (again, all of them), then add color or tones, add balloons and text and sfx. everyone does it different ofc
good luck!
when I make those one-off erotic types of comics I see what I have fun drawing mixed with what my followers seem to be gravitating towards, and usually will come up with some OC's that seem fun to draw then come up with a scenario that fits them and seems fun to do.
The previous one I did was a comedy with a foursome, the next one I'm thinking about is maybe a modern sci-fi maybe time travel? with some vanilla stuff? but I also semi- wanna make it a slice of life comedy-style thing with sex in it sometimes so figuring that out is so tricky!
I will say I don't see a lot of adventure/sci-fi sex comics at least not as easily most are more casual fare so you could either go big or do something more familiar (neither is a wrong choice imo)
Hopefully you'll have fun making whatever you decide to do
But yeah, as everyone above has mentioned just make sure its a story with a world and designs that you enjoy working with, you having fun making it is enough!
