Rejoining the Furry Fandom + A little Backstory
4 years ago
Hello everybody. I figured I'd write this journal to give a little bit of an introduction for myself. Who I am, my already pre-existing background in the fandom, etc.
I had originally joined the fandom back in 2014, and originally I had a coyote fursona named Kiely. I was introduced to the fandom after finding a video on YouTube of the fursuiter Telephone, and I just thought the concept was really cool.
Kiely then got renamed and redesigned, and became Mordecai. After a while I created other fursona's: A Fox named Skylar, an Angel Dragon named Winnie, a Bear named Alex, an Owl named Mumble (Who became my main for a while), another Owl named Max, a Fox named Ash, and, ironically enough, a rabbit named Jackie.
Obviously as you can tell, the name for my current fursona is borrowed from that previous one. I chose the name for that one, and carried it over to my new fursona, because I honestly just really love that name. But Jackie isn't just another new fursona for me. He's more of a reset, or a fresh start if you will. The other's have been completely scrapped, and he's taking their place.
All except for Mumble that is. That character does still exist, but he isn't associated with the fandom anymore, nor is he considered a fursona by me. He is considered to be more of a mascot figure for my gaming channel if you want to be technical.
Around 2 months ago, I decided to leave the fandom, primarily due to personal reasons. Things had gotten really tough in my life, and I thought I had no choice but to leave the fandom behind. Because of this, I had originally never intended on rejoining. But soon after I left, I started to regret my decision. The simply truth is, the fandom has brought me a lot of happiness, and has afforded me many friends over the years. And I never lost interest in it.
Obviously it's just a fandom, a hobby, and not something that is really impactful on my actual day to day personal life, but I Do still want to go to conventions, and get a fursuit, and all that jazz. That's still in my bucket list of shit to do.
But I decided that, If I'm going to scrap about my plans to leave the fandom, I'm not just gonna reuse the fursonas I already had. I set out to give myself a completely fresh start within the fandom, and that is what lead me to where I am right now, writing this admittedly beefy journal.
I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about myself, and how I got my true start in this fandom. I'm not the best artist in the world, so don't expect any self made art anytime soon, but I do have a sketchbook and I'd love to take the time to learn how to sketch and better my drawing skills. Thank you for taking the time to read this if you did
