Welp the drive is still dead but in searching some things I found what might be a savior. A DVD-R disk labeled 'Terran wars'
Unfortunately I currently do not have a optical drive. So I guess it's time to go get an external optical and see what's on this disk.

Good(?) news is that an external DVD drive is fairly inexpensive (Microcenter has some listed staring at US$20). Here's to hoping that past you stashed exactly what you were looking for on that disk.
