Free ref sheet for fox/fox-types and a new Youtube Tutorial
Posted 15 years agohttp://www.furaffinity.net/view/4803735
orange04 has been kind enough to create a tri-view MALE reference sheet for use by anyone who has a need for it (as long as you keep her copyright in there). I'd also suggest linking back to her in appreciation for allowing anyone to use her work in this way.
I might do a few of these for you guys as well, only they'll be like my model sheets so you can use it for any species. I'll do a male, female, and femboy/prepubescent version... when I have time.
*****Right now I'm working on another youtube-based tutorial. It will probably be finished tomorrow, if everything goes smoothly. It's lesson? How to mold my model sheets to better suit your character. Right now, I'm including:
(1) how to make a feminine model sheet become a masculine one,
(2) how to make a masculine model sheet become feminine,
(3) how to make a model sheet work for a chubby/overweight character, and
(4) how to make a model sheet work for muscular characters.
Are there any other adjustments I should add? I think I'm covering most of the bases, or at least what has been commented on so far. Feel free to let me know what else this tutorial can provide for you... but keep it specific to body types.
Also, I'll be doing these examples with the plantigrade versions of model sheets I've drawn. I'll be doing a digigrade-specific tutorial later, which will cover lots of different types (canine, feline, hoof, cloven, dragon, etc). Including it in this tutorial would only make it longer, and cause it to drift off on a tangent that should really be explored separately.
I hope you're looking forward to it!

Poses ... for Hands, Feet, & Bodies ...
Posted 15 years agohttp://www.posemaniacs.com/
This is the best website you can go to for full 3D models of males and females, hands, and feet. If you haven't seen it yet, take a good look, because this is one awesome resource to have. You can manipulate everything there to be from any possible angle, taking out a lot of guesswork where it comes to perspective.
I suggest it for new artists, as well as well-seasoned ones.

[November 2010] AAMP Updates
Posted 15 years agoToday I added an affiliate to our list, and re-organized the Index of Tutorials. I have also added over a dozen more tutorials to the list, and have about a dozen more I'm adding later tonight.
Please take the time to look over the new organization of the tutorials and let me know how you like it. Should I add more categories? Separate some? Or is it a good improvement?
Let me know, I want to make sure the tutorials are presented in the best and more comprehensive way possible.
~AAMP
EDIT: I also added some new model sheets! More to come, I promise! All digigrade. =) I'm probably going to redo the old ones, just to make them cleaner... and make digigrade versions of them as well.

AAMP's Affiliates aka Similar Groups on FA
Posted 15 years agoJust in case you haven't noticed the links in our profile info, here's a list of our current affiliates. They all have the same goal as us (to help each other get better at what we want to do), so check them out if you get the chance.

A good place to go for specific anthropomorphic tutorials. They have many that they created themselves, as well as links to more in their favorites.

A helpful place to go to learn how to roleplay, if you don't already know how. It's just starting out, so there isn't much content yet, but I can only see good things from a place trying to help people roleplay better than "lol I kicked you. He smiled."

A more broad spectrum of help is available in this group. They cater to musicians, writers, artists, and everyone in between. I think it would be a great place to get red-lines and critique. You should check it out.
I'll update this journal as we get more affiliates.

Extremely Awesome Shading Tutorial!
Posted 15 years agoA Beautiful Tutorial by PurpleKecleon
Everyone should read through this tutorial and see what you can learn from it. It's so detailed, so precise, and so very informative. It'll teach you more about shading and coloring than I could teach you in seven tutorials.
Take it slow, and it shouldn't confuse you too much. The examples are all very good, and can help you bring depth to anyone's art. I'm learning from it, myself. xD

New Tutorials Available~!
Posted 15 years agoCheck out the Index of Tutorials (or click here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/693699/) to see the new tutorials I've added to the list. They're from the artist ajna here on FA, and they're very good for beginning anthro artists. How to draw digigrade legs, how to draw muzzles, and how to shade. All very informative. ^_^
You can also go here to see them: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1818469/
That's her own journal with the list, and as she says there, feel free to give her ideas for more tutorials! I'm sure she'd appreciate it, and everyone can appreciate more tutorials! =)
~AAMP
EDIT: Added a couple more tutorials that were brought to my attention. If you guys find neat tutorials on FA, don't keep them to yourself! Please let us know about them, by commenting, shouting, or noting us a link... we want to have as many tutorials as possible! ^_^

Back Again~!
Posted 15 years agoIt's been a hectic summer (getting a new computer, planning for my wedding, art block, depression, etc), but I've returned to start making more tutorials for AAMP, and I will read through the many comments I've received and respond to them today. Apologies on the wait.
If you're interested, I know I had plans to start livestreaming tutorials, giving viewers who come watch me to tell me what to draw. I still plan on doing that, but I had another good idea as well. I've always had a YouTube account, but never knew what to do with it. Uploading videos of tutorials I've done sounds like a good idea, so I'm going to try it out.
Here's the first tutorial I did. It's just a test, and I'll shrink the movies down and figure out how to do it better before I get into it, but this is something I think would be worth doing. Take a look if you like, and give me some feedback. If you're a wiz at youtube videos, I'd appreciate any and all advice. :)
((I deleted the youtube video as I plan on making a better one))

AAMP Livestream Tutorials
Posted 15 years agoI'm contemplating doing a livestream every week, open to the public so mentorees and other curious watchers of this account can throw up ideas of what they need help drawing... and I can try to explain it while drawing examples at the same time.
I was wondering if this would be something interesting enough that people would want to come watch, and learn from. What do you think?
I would post a journal 24 hours before the stream, so people know it's going to happen, and after the stream is completed, I would edit the journal to include a link to a recording of the livestream so they can see what was discussed even though they couldn't attend.
Good idea?
Bad idea?

AAMP December Update
Posted 16 years agoOnce again, it has been a long time since I have updated this account. The main reason for this is my lack of ideas on what type of tutorial I should do next, as well as the lack of finding new tutorials to add to the LIST of tutorials I provide here.
However, today that lack of new information has changed. Two people have PM'd me and linked me to two new tutorials that I can use as an excuse to update AAMP! ^_^
keroascrazy linked me to this: http://hippie.nu/~unicorn/tut/xhtml/
It's a beautiful, TL;DR tutorial that covers SO MUCH material, it's not even funny. I've added a link to it on the Index of Tutorials journal, and I suggest everyone take a look at it and glean some new insight from it. There is SO much you can learn from it.
AND
FuyumiAya linked me to this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3146774/
It's an eye coloring tutorial she created herself, and I think it is very good. If you want to add a little depth to the way you color your eyes, take a look. =3
**********************
Also, I would like to thank everyone who has come to watch this account in the past couple months. I know that I should update more often, and I will try to make a schedule so I can do so, but it is always pleasing to log on and see a whole bunch of new faces, learning and exploring their artistic side with a little help from my OCD and perhaps my cruddy tutorials. =3
If there is a particular TUTORIAL you would like me to create, as I am still unsure as to what to go with next, feel free to comment here with what you'd like me to make. I'm pretty open, and I've gotten some good ideas in the past, but some are more difficult than others, especially since some cover areas I myself do not draw on a regular basis.
I will most likely update with some more model sheets sometime before the new year, and following a suggestion of adding high-res versions, I will be uploading some to my Photobucket and linking them to their "normal" versions I already have uploaded here. That should ALSO be completed before the new year.
So, if there's anything we're lacking here at AAMP, please don't be afraid to comment and let us know about it. We're always trying to improve and help others improve.
Have a WONDERFUL holiday season, everyone!

Adversity

Apologies for the Long Absense
Posted 16 years agoI've been working a lot, with commissions to help friends and with my job IRL as well, so I've been a bit too pressed to update AAMP as often as I promised myself I would.
In any case, please, if you have anything you'd like critiqued, or if you have any questions, ask. Either myself or another of the mentors will respond to the request asap.
We're here to help, but we don't want to seem overbearing, so we won't just pop on your page and start critiquing. Some might consider that rude. Instead, come to us, and we'll help you in any way we can.
And as always, the best resource we have right now is our TUTORIAL JOURNAL. We have collected many, many tutorials that can be extremely helpful to an artist of almost any level, so please look into them.
Also, if you'd like to become a mentor/mentoree, please check out the journal for that and comment there with your intentions.
Thank you, everyone, stay healthy and creative. =3
EDIT: OH! I forgot. I also need ideas on the next tutorial to create. So shoot me some ideas, please!! ^_^

Welcome to AAMP!
Posted 16 years agoGreeting and thank you for visiting AAMP.
I know it's probably exciting to know that a group is opening up to help artists improve, but try to remember that the group of people running AAMP is small. Tiny, really. So until we get more volunteers to help with mentoring, your best bet for artistic help is our tutorials list. It's HUGE, and it has lots of valuable information for improving the basic ways you draw and color.
If you'd like to become a mentor or be mentored, navigate to our Mentors/Mentorees journal and reply with which you'd like to be... and any specifics of your situation.
The "tips and tricks" journal is basic advice from artists to artists, so if you want to add to it, don't hesitate to reply to the journal with your advice. I'll move it up into the journal itself as soon as I can.
Lastly, the Q&A's of art is a compilation of questions and answers to common questions artists may have. If you'd like to add some questions, or add to an answer we've already given, please feel free to do so.
Also, remember that the FREE MODEL SHEETS are indeed that. Free. Most of the first ones we'll be uploading have been created by adversity from her artwork. After those run out, I'll have to figure out where to find more poses... probably out of some of those How To Draw Manga books.
Take care~!
-AAMP
P.S. If you have any ideas on how AAMP can help artists improve, note me or something. I want to cover as many bases as possible.

The Q&A's of Art
Posted 16 years agoDo you have any questions about drawing? Or do you have anything to add to what's already been said? If so, please reply to this journal with your question/comment so I can add it.
---
1. What overall things are there to remember when drawing furry?
-The thing that I always try to remember is that they're somewhere between animals and human. All furries have the tails and ears of their species, but how you draw the rest of the furry depends on which artist you talk to. I prefer humanlike bodies with animallike faces. Some artists draw completely human bodies (no fur) with just the tail and ears. Some draw what looks like an animal that has learned to stand on two legs and talk. It's all about the style you want, and you have to decide that for yourself. Try different styles, and stick with the one you like... or the one you do best. =3
2. What would help me improve?
-Practice. It's the only thing that ever helps us improve. Draw one thing a day, and your style will almost always improve. It's those long periods of not drawing that hurts us as artists. The second most important thing to help us improve as artists is to continuously be looking at art that has a characteristic within it that we want to learn. If someone is good at drawing knees, look at how they do it and try to emulate it. Don't copy everything from the same artist... but look at many and pick out the traits you want to use and learn to emulate them. =3
3. Are there exercises to do everyday to improve?
-Just drawing every day will help you improve as an artist. Look at a pose in a piece of another artist and copy it (just the pose, though. copying the whole picture often leads to trouble).
4. Is there some secret where it comes to doing eyes, a muzzle, etc body part?
-No secrets. All it is, is practice and emulation. See how someone else draws a muzzle at a certain angle, and try and do it the same way. I happen to be an artist that does well with small muzzles but can't draw a longer one for the life of me... other artists have the opposite problem. Find an artist who draws muzzles the way you want to draw them, and try to see how they do it. That's what I have to do. xD
5. What information can you share to help me improve and be better at what I do?
-Don't give up. If you need feedback, ask for it. LOOK at your art when it's done. Stare at it. Find all the mistakes you made, and either make a list or a mental note of it. See where your flaws are. Then... find examples from other artists that can help you get better at one of those flaws. Work on that flaw until it's fixed, then move on to the next one.
It's methodical, but this is how I learned to be a better artist. Piece by piece, and always giving self-critique to remind me what I'm still not good at. It can kind of make you depressed, but you have to push through it and realize that Rome was not built in a day, and every artist who is good today was just as crappy when they started out. =3
