Looking for input on the mater of Tutorials
Posted 11 years agoSo, I'll keep this journal rather short because the title's pretty self-explanatory.
I've been thinking I want to perhaps make another tutorial or two sometime in the future inbetween commission work. Thing is, I'm curious to hear what people would like me to do a how-to about.
List anything you like, no matter how abstract it may sound. Perhaps someone else out there is wondering the same thing!

Regarding Commissions in the Future
Posted 11 years agoAlright, during this time that I've been doing sketch commissions, there's been a fair number of people who've been asking if I can do commissions beyond that. Lineart, flat colours, full colours, and such.
To put it simply: YES, I do want to start offering those again… BUT there is a potential problem
Let's start from the top. The reason why I started sketch commissions in the first place was because, at the time, I was quite busy in my final semesters of university and didn't want to have people wait anywhere between 2-3 months for me to get like one full colour commission done. I felt the sketches were a happy medium between people who wanted art from me and me being able to produce them in a timely manner. Now that I've graduated from university, I no longer have to juggle work between classes and art so that WOULD free me up to do larger-scale commissions.
Now, here's the reason I say "would". Way back in year 2 of my 4 year program, the university offered a special deal to those who wanted to get the Adobe Creative Suite 6 for their own. If you paid a little extra each semester for your tuition, you would get CS6 at a reduced price in the end to have all to your very own. Now, it's been all well and dandy thus far, but since the beginning of this month, every time I start up Photoshop or any Adobe software, I get a message that basically summarizes to "register now or continue trial". To my understanding, us students at the time did not sign up for this deal to get an extended trial of CS6, so I will be taking this up to see what exactly all this means and if I can get it sorted proper.
What this means for commissions is that, due to the possible chance that CS6 could suddenly just lock down on me, I can't offer full colour commissions at this time. I REALLY don't want to be put in the awkward situation where I'm not done someone's commission as well as all the other people in line behind that one, especially after they all paid already.
Fortunately, I also own Paint Tool SAI which, thankfully, has NOT been threatening me to register. Because I do all my shading work in PS and not SAI, I would be willing to offer anything up to flat colours in the near future. I'll practice how to shade in SAI in the meantime, which hopefully shouldn't take too long to do.
If that was TL;DR, here's the cliffnotes:
•I want to do more commission variety, but due to Photoshop threatening to lock down on me, that puts a damper on those plans
•Since I also own SAI, I can at least do lineart and flat colours while I learn to shade with SAI
In addition, should I become confident in my shading abilities with SAI in a timely manner, I also would be willing to offer an upgrade to full colour to those who bought a flat colour commission without having to wait in line again.
I figure this is the best plan regarding the circumstances. In the end, I just want to avoid not only having me hung up to dry if I get locked out of CS6, but also not screw over those who paid for a full colour commish only to have me tell them after they've been waiting for ages that I can't do it at the time.
You can expect me to post another journal in the near future, perhaps along with a sample artwork, of new commission offerings.
By all means, please let me know what you think if this sounds fair or not.
If you've got an opinion, let me hear it!
Cheers,
ACM

.: EMPTY SLOT! :.
Same prices as last time ($15 Canadian Dollars for the first sketch/character, and then an additional $10 for each additional sketch/character). I work on a pay first-policy. Note me if you'd like a slot ^^
A couple things to add this time, so please read on, if you would be so kind
•The sketch style will be different this time, akin to this http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13443793/
Overall, I believe it's going to be a better experience for both myself and commissioners. I can crank out these sketches much faster, and you get more bang for your buck, like shading and other pretty things!
•I've decided to put a limit on the amount of sketches you can get in ONE commission
•This is optional but it REALLY helps out in the long run. When you make a payment on paypal, say who it's from (aka, say your username). All I get from a regular payment from paypal is how much money I received and from the real name of the user. I don't know you all personally, so if you can include something as simple as "(username)'s commission", then I don't have to bother confirming with you that it is indeed you who paid and not say the other 3 guys who want the exact same type of commission
•Speaking of paypal, PLEASE make sure you're paying in CANADIAN dollars. You're actually paying me more than you need to when you pay $15 USD. There have also been a couple instances where this conversion has actually shortchanged me, but it was only out of a few cents or a dollar at most, so I'm not complaining. Even so, please make sure of that detail
•I'll allow a commissioner to buy additional slots on a list but only when I've completed their previous commission and there are empty spots left
•Also, I really wish I could say this without the phrase "this goes without saying, but" please... please... PLEASE... have your money ready to pay when you order a slot, like within two days. I don't want to hold a slot forever for a guy who says he'll get the money to pay at the end of the month or something similar. If you can't pay right away, please be courteous for other people who might want a commission, if not for my sake, and step down. It means a lot to me
Apart from that, same rules as the last time (Nothing adult rated, don't do fetish work, etc)
Here's to a successful batch!
Cheers!

Question about Commissions and Upcoming Things
Posted 11 years agoNot too many commissions to go as of writing this, so I might as well ask this now.
For the next batch of commissions, at the same price, how many would be interested if I did the sketches like this http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13443793/ instead of how I normally do it, at the same price of $15?
The black lines are a little more sketchy, yes (it IS a sketch after all), but in return I'll throw in some shading!
If you're interested, let me know in the comments!
Also, I've been meaning to put together a stream channel, either for watching art or games (or both!). So far, it's coming together, but during some tests, my friends say the video and audio wasn't all that great, so I'll be tinkering with that some. More details to come as things develop!

Where I've Been These Days
Posted 11 years agoI've been getting a lot of notes regarding the matter so I figured I should post an explanation.
Two days ago, I had my graduation ceremony and yesterday, I had my screening of my short film Noob!
Speaking of which, since it's been screened, I'll do my best to post it online as quick as I can, but I need to speak with some profs regarding the matter of posting online. It has to do with showing in animation festivals, you see, a criteria of which is that it can't be publicly online before it is shown in the festival, which I think is a bunch of malarkey, in my own opinion.
Anywho, that's what I've been up to.
Back to commission and overdue art work!

Film's all done, back to the important things!
Posted 11 years agoAhhh...
It's nice to get that off my back.
Now that the short film Noob! is all done, I can get back to commissions and some art that's long overdue ^^"
Well! Better late than never!
And if I get stressed along the way, I can chill out with my new relaxing game... what was it called again... Dark Souls 2 or something such... x3

2014 Commission Batch No. 2 OPEN
Posted 11 years agoHello folks!
Cutting to the chase here, gonna start the second round of commissions. For the most part, same rules as before, $15 CAD for a single character (+$10 per additional character/pose) for a SKETCH COMMISSION, but allow me to explain a couple updates:
•For every subsequent commission batch, starting with this one, I'm going to have some fun and throw in a bonus theme. A commissioner that requests a commission that fits with the bonus theme will receive the advantage of having their commission high on the list of priority. For simplicity's sake, I'll try to make each bonus theme worth the same as a single character sketch. If no one wants the bonus theme, regular commissions will eventually fill up the slots from the bottom up.
For $15, I will make pixel art of your character as an FE unit!
If you're not familiar with Fire Emblem, I'll explain a few things about the stats.
HP: Health, how much damage a unit can take before it is defeated
Str/Mag (Which stat it is depends on if the character attacks with weapons or magic): How strong a unit's attack is
Skill: Higher values mean easier to hit targets and pull off critical attacks
Spd: Affects how well a unit can dodge as well as determining if they can attack multiple times in one move
Def:Higher value reduces more physical damage
Res:Higher value reduces more magic damage
Lv: Goes up to a max of 20
All other stats have a cap, these vary from units to units in the real game, but since I designed those bars to fit 30 increments, we'll say it's 30 for everything but HP, which can go up to 60
Some other things about this bonus theme:
• It's a FE "unit", so that means ONE character
• No mounted units (units on wyverns, horses, or winged horses). Not only do I think that would make more work that's worth more than $15, I also think that me trying to draw an actual horse is nightmare fuel xD
•This last point is more nit-picky than anything, but if you're going to have a strong unit, at least have the level high as well and vice versa. Or at the very least, consider making a unit weak in certain stats if he/she's strong in other stats. It gives interest and thought to the playstyle of the unit. If not for my sake, then consider those who DO play FE who are going to possibly critique your character's stats, even though it doesn't actually exist in-game... ^^"
And on that note, to those of you critiquing theoretical stats, don't be a total arse about it. This is all meant to be in good fun, so if someone who doesn't play FE makes stats you don't agree with, that doesn't warrant an excuse to rage about it.
And back to the final, but VERY IMPORTANT update note I want to make:
•I have a feeling that some of you are going to want me to draw muscled female characters. I'm fine with that, because if I wasn't, I wouldn't have posted the Elly comic on here in the first place. However, you should be aware that I don't believe in excessive amounts of muscle mass on female characters. I KNOW that's going to be an unpopular opinion with a good lot of you, but quite frankly, if you do want that sort of stuff, there are plenty of other artists in the sea.
Essentially, I am willing to draw femuscle of a similar level as this http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12746178/
The key idea here is the curves that classically make up a feminine form as opposed to the more angular and box form that classically makes up a masculine form.
If that was TL;DR for you, then I'll sum up. If the woman looks like a man body with breasts, then that's going to be a no from me.
And as before in the last batch, I work PG, nothing R rated, and my original restrictions apply as well (original journal here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5358971/)
And also feel free to ask questions about anything here I have or have not said!
Cheers!

Current Things: January 2014
Posted 12 years agoSo yeah, a new year! Woot!
Alrighty, first of all, commissions. They're coming along quite nicely, in fact, all of them have been sketched on paper, and all they need is the digital treatment. I am SO glad I'm doing just sketches this time around for commissions, easily the best decision I made in a good while, regarding doing art for others.
In other news, these next four months are going to be hectic for me, not because of commissions, but because, short and simply, I got a film to make! The animation student's graduation requirement here is to make a 3-10 minute film, so a LOT of my time is going to be devoted to that as well. If I slow down in the commissions department, I'll make up for it by posting work in progress here. Well, more than the usual amount that I'll be posting
See ya next month, folks!

Commissions are OPEN
Posted 12 years agoYes, that's RIGHT. After an age and then some, I have decided to start taking commissions again!
However, this time, I will ONLY be doing DIGITAL SKETCH COMMISSIONS
The reason why? I was quite disgusted really with how little I managed to get done over this past summer. So this time, and for a good while, you can expect me to do digital sketch commissions. It's sure as hell not as fancy as my other works, but it's also much faster. I actually want to get stuff done than look back and see I only did one or two pics a month.
So, enough of me griping about stuff I didn't get done. Let's talk about the stuff I will get done, hm? ^^
For reference, this is the calibre of quality you can expect when you get a sketch commission http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12345447/
And my base rate is $15 (Canadian dollars) plus $10 per additional character
For now, I will start with 10 spaces, 5 on DA and 5 on FA, but you can expect to see the number of spaces increase. It's just 5 per website for now to get an idea of how much people are interested.
My rules of commission pieces are:
•Nothing R-rated (no nudity, extreme violence, etc.). I'd like to be able to show family and friends what I do without being mysterious about it xD
•I work on a pay-first policy
•I am not the kind of guy who tends to particular desires like vore and inflation. Please ask beforehand on what you'd like
•Note me for what you'd like for a commission
•And of course, if there's something you don't understand, please make a comment!

Posted 12 years agoAlright, got a fair few things to talk about today
First and foremost, commissions. A fair few people have been asking me when I'll be opening for commissions again. While I make no promises on an exact date, I can tell you it will be sometime after the end of next week, for that's when my semester ends, but until then, I still have semester-end projects to take care of. I'd also like to get my christmas pic worked on at least so I can get it done before the 25th.
I think I will however open for commissions before I finish the Side Effects comic, so no worries about having to wait until that's done before commissions start. I think I'll wrap it up soon anyway, a couple more pages or so.
Hm, I also may be inclined to post some of my university work here, depending on if people care to see it or not.
Apart from that, yeah, just busy busy until the semester ends >w<
Cheers,
-ACM

Current Things: November 2013
Posted 12 years agoSo, I think it would be a good idea for to start a monthly journal, lessens my time inbetween previous journals, and you get to know what's going on with me. Sounds like a win-win to me ^^
So! November, eh? What can I say?
Last month has been moderately successful. I've gotten projects done, maybe not as quickly as I would've hoped, but done nonetheless. Schoolwork is starting to become a little more, how do I say it, pertinent as I'm required to make more progress updates on my assignments. But rest assured, I have time set aside to do my brand of art ^^
Speaking of which. I've decided to take up commissions again soon, but only in the form of digital sketches. I'll post another journal with the details later, and my reasonings too.
You can also expect me to put more of my animation assignments up here too in the near future. I'm putting a lot of effort into these, and I think it's only fair that you guys get to see what else I've been working on in the meantime instead of hearing me just jabber on and on about it.
Apart from that, let's see. Tried a sword-fighting class this past saturday. Now THERE'S an activity I can get into, and it also makes me want to watch The Princess Bride yet again, for good reason of course x3
That's all for me today, catch ya again later!

Current Things
Posted 12 years agoWell well, where should I start off? Hmm…
Some people have been asking about commissions and such, namely when are they gonna open again or when are new slots gonna pop up. To that I say I want to take a break from commissions for a little bit for a couple reasons. One, I want to update my commission offerings list. Maybe I'll add a couple things, but you'll for sure see the removal of the full colour offering. I feel I just take RIDICULOUSLY long doing those, especially compared to the stuff before it. Perhaps I'll do limited full colour maybe, like as an avatar or something, I dunno, I'll think about it. Secondly, I want to change it this way because I'll be entering my final year of university soon and I suspect things will get hella busy, most likely. The less time I have to spend doing one commission, the better it is for everyone in the end.
Another thing I want to point out is that I want to take a little break from commissions so I can work on personal projects. It goes without saying that due to the incredible amount of response I got from the Side Effects comic that I will be doing more panels (yay! ^o^) but I also would like to work on other things as well. I might even consider opening up publicly for art trades ^^
Anyways, I've got that off my mind >w<
Cheers folks!

Spilled water on my laptop...
Major derp moment for me. xp
Looks okay for the time being while I let it dry. I REALLY hope it's okay
Update: July 10th, 2013
Welp, there's the good news and the bad news.
The good news is, none of my files on my watered laptop were damaged. Everything opens up, and runs, fine.
The bad news, however, is quite problematic. The battery still works, but I have effectively turned my laptop into a desktop as the battery can no longer seem to charge when plugged in, although it can still use power from the plug-in. In addition to that, for a couple days after the initial incident, it seemed to randomly shut off. It hasn't happened since then, but I'm still hesitant to use it for extended periods of time because of that fact.
So, this weekend, I'm gonna take the old girl in to a repair shop, see if it can be restored to its prime. If so, that's great and that's one less thing to concern myself over. If not, that's one more thing to concern myself with ^^"
And as for you commissioners still waiting on your commissions, not to worry. I'll still be able to work on them once I install photoshop and the driver software for my cintiq on the desktop here.
Hang in there Yoshi, please don't go dying on me now.
(PS: I've nicknamed my laptop "Yoshi" because it has a Yoshi decal on it)

Stuff and Such
Posted 12 years agoHoly crap, it's been a while since I wrote last.
First things first, big thanks to those who wished me a happy birthday and extra kudos to those who went out of their way to make a present as well *tips my metaphorical hat to RoboBio (DA) and MightyMouseFan78/FurvusWolf (DA/FA)* ^^
Secondly, the university year is starting to wind down, so I'll be busy focusing most of my time on that. I'll work on commissions when I can. God, I'm so slow ><"
Apart from that, hm, not much else to report x3
Cheers folks,

Current Plans
Posted 13 years agoWell let's see...
Got a couple commissions on the go, but it's mostly gift art I'm working on lately, about 7 different pieces to do. Busy busy busy, but also very rewarding, for I find it much better to give than receive ^^
Also plan to add on to the commission info sheet. More inventory, or the "DLC" if you will (Actually, DLC's kinda an appropriate term since commissioners will receive my works online xD).
Some other stuff to be done, but yeah. Feeling relaxed now that I'm at home ^^
Oh, and Happy Doomsday, by the way x3

2 Classes left
Posted 13 years agoJust two more assignments and then the semester is over.
Good god, has this one turned out tougher than I thought it would be ^^"

....
...yeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh....
Well, the only thing keeping me from taking further commissions at this point is schoolwork. Not animation, thankfully, but those darned academics (as you might've guessed from my last journal) are what eats up my time and focus. As it stands, each of my academic classes only has one paper left to do in them before the end of the semester. The good news is that these papers will be done within the next two weeks. The bad news is they're all due on the same week >.<"
So hang tight folks, my university work is keeping me on my toes, but I'll be back in action as soon as possible
Cheers,
ACM

How did it ever come to this?
Posted 13 years agoHow did this happen?
How come I'm going to university to supposedly become an animator, but yet instead being judged as a scholar?
All I ever wanted to do was draw, so how come an art school is getting in the way by throwing books and articles and essays and texts at me?
F***, the world is so very cold at times
I just can't help but think of something Mitch Hedberg once said...
"When you're a comedian, everybody wants you to do other things. All right, you're a stand-up comedian, can you write us a script? That's not fair. That's like if I worked hard to become a cook, and I'm a really good cook, they'd say, "OK, you're a cook. Can you farm?"

Stream poll, mind responding?
Posted 13 years agoHey everyone,
Got a little poll to ask you all regarding my streaming activity. Namely what TIME the stream should be. Last time, I streamed at 9:00 AM PDT for 2 hours, and although some folks joined me for a while, I want to know from you guys are some suggestions for a stream start time and possibly a suggestion for a streaming site. Currently, I use UStream, but it seems like the chat system on there isn't quite the greatest. ^^"
So, if you'd like to drop a comment of a suggestion of a time, in YOUR TIME ZONE, of what would be a desirable time to start a streaming session of roughly 2-3 hours, that would be much appreciated. Remember to put in your time zone too.
The more people that respond, the better organized this thing will be. Your response is greatly appreciated. ^^
Cheers, folks

Back to the ol' grind
Posted 13 years agoWell, almost. On the 4th to be exact, is when I go back to university for my third year.
Still, just flew back to BC from home just today. Man, it's seems so unreal that I woke up this morning in a bed 1500 km away from where I am now ^^"
Anyways, looking forward to the upcoming year though. I'm pretty sure a lively highlight will be working with greenscreens this semester as well as more animating!
That's all for now folks, cheers!

Heigh-ho, heigh-ho...
Posted 13 years ago..it's off to work I go.
Meaning, my time to draw now is somewhat limited more.
The reason why I say "somewhat limited" is because even though, in terms of minutes, I don't have as much time to work on projects, every time I return home from a day at work I think of nothing better to do than draw.
It's kinda hard to describe, but what I do know is that ever since coming home, I feel alive and rejuvenated. Ironically, the two weeks I had off between the end of semester and the start of my summer job I had planned to be my most productive weeks and they ended up turning out to be the laziest two weeks I've had in a long time.
I dunno, maybe I did need a little break from the art (and in the process, I found out I love Ratchet and Clank games. Where have they been all my life!? xD) but the point is that I feel my artistic vibe returning. Perhaps it's simply because every day I can look forward to coming home and visualizing my thoughts and visions on the pages in my sketchpad. Don't get me wrong, I'm quite fond of my employment. Hell, they let me take a day off last season so I could draw up some designs and logos for them, but even though the job's great, it just doesn't have the magic that drawing gives me.
Some people think that I might consider drawing a chore, some may also think that I'm insane in giving out request sketches for free, and some more may even think that I must be absolutely insane to invite the chance of others who would seek to abuse my art for their personal gain, but what most people don't realize is just why I do these things. Sure, I love drawing, I want to improve myself as an artist, and if I can get paid doing so, bonus! In all seriousness though, I do these things because, well, it's basically my lifeblood. I consider what life would be like if I had forsaken the pencil, and honestly, it scares me. I may still have my whole life ahead of me, but I know without a doubt that when I die later on down the road doing what drives my soul, I can say that I would have no regrets.
I admit, this journal turned pretty heavy-handed rather quickly, especially when it started off as a simple notification that my drawing hours would be limited during the summer, but I've been meaning to get that off my chest for a while. I'm sure anyone would love to do what they love best to the very end, I suppose I was just one of those folks who decided to voice his opinion on the matter, to let his viewers know a little bit more about what makes him tick.
Well, I've still got improvements to learn, barricades to overcome, and most likely a whole myriad of other troubles along the way, but that's the life, ain't it? And I'm not just talking about the artist's life here, I'm talking about the good life.
A life worth sticking through to the very end.
I hope you all learned something by reading this, not just about me but about you. That said, I wish you all safe travels in your future endeavours.
Just don't forget where you started from along the way :)

Concerning Art Trades
Posted 13 years agoIt seems a fair few folk have been asking me about art trades, so I thought I'd like to clear things up.
For the most part, I don't usually do art trades, and that's because some people would like to use the art trade as a sort of payment for a piece that's higher up than a sketch. My problem with that isn't that I'm not getting paid, my problem is that the charge falls on me to assign a value to someone else's art, and quite frankly, I don't want to be the one to make that decision, since I think that's rather bold (not in a good way) to do so.
I'm fine with collaborations (I do one part, and the other takes up the other part), but yeah, on art trades, I might open up a separate slot for just art trading later on, but for now, it's a no-go. I hope you all understand my point of view.
Cheers folks,
ACM
