I'm sure there are more options out there, but distribution channels from Ingramspark seem to be getting worse and worse every year - I'm not sure if that's by design by the big trad publishers or not. I've been mulling over this for a good, long while, but seeing as my book series is coming to an end (I'm actively writing the 6th and final book) and all the pieces I've ever wanted to realize for the series has more or less been done, AND all that can be licensed to be included in the companion art book to the series has been included - I think I'm done with primary commissioning of art.

What does that mean? That means going forward, due to real life changes in my work, my life, my home of record and many more BIG LIFE UPHEAVALS - combined with the tanking currency of the dollar compared to what most artists are using these days (Euro and British pounds), and the fact I've been scammed several times (most recently out of $755 dollars) forcing me to only do Paypal invoices thus blocking off so many artists, I think it's time to stop commissioning art for Legend of Ahya.

This was a once-in-a-lifetime period where I had a great job, economy was great, I had splurge cash money to spend for almost 10 years on promoting and enjoying these characters outside of any official art made for the book specifically. This period is swiftly ending and I must look ahead to the uncertain horizon and the less-than-hopeful future of myself, my family and my creative indulgences.

Legend of Ahya is unique in that I had the opportunity to make a visual companion gallery for the world and its characters. Any future book series I make will not have this level of graphical enhancement. No more in-book illustrations after every chapter, maybe 1 map at the front of the book in total (instead of 4-6), and only the cover art to commission. Future books will be more sparse in the art department going forward, but that's just the nature of things.

What this means for commissions overall is that I will no longer be actively seeking them out and will reject (and block if you're pushy beyond the first no) any artist who wants to come to me wanting my money for commission. I can't take chances anymore and if I do have a grand idea I'd like to see realized, I will be the one going out to an artist I'm familiar with and know on a personal basis to commission. I will not be actively seeking out anyone new. I know that comes as a disappointment for those who have been wanting to draw one of my characters, but for the reasons above I just can't take chances anymore on unknowns. Fan art is more than welcome though and you're more than free to draw any of them whenever - just realize that that's what you're doing: fan art - not a commission.

With a heavy heart, I end this journal. There are a few more commissions still waiting on to be delivered, so there will still be some activity left here for a year or so yet, but once those are complete, I've no idea what's next for me regarding these art sites. I hope you've enjoyed this journey as much as I have realizing it. Due to being scammed by someone posing as , I am out $755. Since I’ve worked with and trusted Pak009 in the past, the story of his dad being ill and needing the money now for travel to see him seemed legit. I should have dug deeper. I should have joined their discord server, however briefly and confirmed their account was the same as the one messaging me saying I had won a YCH. I did friends and family because I knew and have worked well with Pak009. But the scammer deceived and has now spoiled things for all future commissions going forward.

I will not be doing Friends and Family ever again for any reason, not for my trusted payment recipients. Invoices only from now on. It’s my own stupidity and not digging deeper that caused all this. Be aware, be vigilant. I will not be entertaining any further artists who come to me directly. I will come to you. Period. Learn from my mistakes.

EDIT: You know what? Fuck it. I'm gonna release any info I have for those smart enough to do something about it. Reporting them to Paypal and Discord (who each have done nothing to solve the problem with this person) did not work and it's clear I'm not getting the money back, here is all I've received regarding this:
Name - Steven Chavez - Is this their actual name? I've no clue, I bet it isn't, but it's a good place to start.
Email Used - muelloharry8[at]gmail.com - Is this a burner email? Most likely, but you can never tell.
Discord ID - 1364627299848421466 - Is this a throwaway account? Probably, so killing it won't do much to stop the operation.

Why am I providing this? Because these scammers hurt us all, artists and commissioners alike. They help destroy the trust and integrity of this community of furry lovers and patrons of art. This goes out to all artists who I’ve commissioned in the past - more specifically for SFW pieces. (I’m not looking for new artists or pieces at this time.)

6 June 2025 edit: I'm still waiting on Melloque to get back with me. They're the last artist I've tried to reach out to. Anyone know where they've gone?

My intention upon book 6 release and publication sometime in 2026 or 2027 is to also release an officially published art book as a companion piece to the book series - complete with additional writings, short stories, character details, world building and more not found in the books or their appendices!

It will include:
All cover arts high quality
All interior illustrations high quality
All interior maps high quality
All licensed commissions high quality

This last addition is the reason I’m doing this journal. But first let’s break it down: my price point is probably gonna be $40-60 for the art book depending on many factors. But if you take out manufacturing costs, shipping and distribution costs, vanity publishing house fees, etc. at best, I might be getting maybe $7-10 as royalties per sale and that’s being hopeful.

Then you factor in that this art book is gonna be around 450-600 pages big with just as many art pieces and you can see how easily unfeasible this is to pay full license fees for each and every piece. It’s a sunk cost endeavor and I’m kinda only doing this for the die hard fans.

So how have I been able to manage this? By negotiating with each artist. Some have freely given their blessing by mere price of commission alone and no further costs. You artists are pure saints! Love you!

Others have done a flat nominal fee for the entire lot of commissions - this can be manageable based on proposed cost. Finally, a rare few wanted to charge double or the exact cost of every commission again just to use them in the art book. Least to say, I cannot afford this and all their art will not be included or considered.

You must remember, at best, the small selection of art I’ve commissioned from each artist will be a drop in the bucket among 500+ others. I can only do/pay so much. This is, in the end, not for me but for book series fans who want this lovely art physically in their hands. It’s a passion project for them, not for me.

The fourth novel in my book series is complete and available for purchase today! I wish there were more options out there - but it seems distribution channels have taken a hit in the past year and websites (like Booktopia) who did stock my books last year no longer have any of them available, as if they didn't exist. It's hard enough trying to self-publish without many of the online retailers unwilling or unable to stock my books. The best I can offer as alternatives is to keep checking in with your own country's online book retailers and see if Broken Empires pops up as an option!

I'll admit, I've not been checking my watcher count lately, but I recently glanced at it today and was shocked to see that I have over 4300+ watchers! That just feels insanely awesome to me! I know I am no artist and cannot run an official raffle for some commission slot opening, but perhaps I can do something similar to those that follow me? To that end, I’m opening up a raffle that concludes when I reach 5000 watchers? I feel like it could work like this:

First winner/raffle draw - Gets (up to a) full body commission paid for by me with their OC and one of my ladies of their choice. (Maybe I can be a bit daring and say NSFW is on the table as well, but unlike SFW, we'd need to discuss and both agree on the idea!) Obviously, this can get wildly out of hand depending on cost, so I'd probably have a specific internal cap to it, but I'd feel it right we both agree on the same artist.

One of my friends pointed out something I should make clear. When the raffle is drawn for the two winners, I will be checking for four things:
- You're a watcher of me
- You put down a number in order
- You listed a favorite OC of mine
- Your account is not recently created (aka bot account) just to get my watch numbers up (I will be checking!)

I don't really ERP, let alone RP. I simply don't have time and I'd rather be spending that time on writing my books or spending time with friends/family/personal hobbies. However, it has come to my attention that at least two accounts (might be more) have been using art of my characters:

For Murana - an F-List account named Brooke Madison
For Taylor Renee - an F-List account named Alla Amore

At least the latter for Taylor had the decency to call themselves out as being an 'Art Borrower' despite not giving credit to any of the artists or the owner of Taylor. I'm not really pursuing any legal action, primarily because they aren't actively making money off my copyrighted intellectual property. It'd be no point and be a fruitless endeavor. They're just using them to get off with other people with words. (If they were profiting off them, that's a different story!) However, I did try to contact F-list support to see if they could help with taking down the pictures (close to 100 in total), but here was their response and I quote:

"Thank you for reaching out! I will be helping you with this takedown request. If you're the artist or owner of the art in question, then you may follow the instructions in our Art Takedown Policy (https://[their website]/Art_Takedown_Requests). For me to remove an image from a gallery, I do need some additional information: Step One: Proof of Identity: This is to prove you're the owner of the profile/page where you post your art offsite. This can be FurAffinity, DeviantArt, a social media site, or so on. You can do this by posting a status/journal with this ticket number [224749] on that site, then sending a link to that post in this ticket. Step Two: Proof of Ownership: This step is the most important! For each image you're requesting a takedown for, you must send us a link that proves that you own it. (So, if you were to request a takedown for 5 images, then you would need to include 5 links that show ownership, for example.) We do not take reuploaded pieces of art as proof of ownership. What we need is the original artist's upload of the art piece that should link to the identity verified in Step One."

So, basically, I would need to spend hours to provide the burden of truth to take down each and every single image that these F-list accounts have used (and there's a lot). Wasting my time for something so trivial. So, instead, I'm making more efficient use of my time to simply notify everyone of one thing:

tldr; I have not, nor will I use F-list. I do not ERP/RP. If you somehow come across anyone claiming to be me or any of my characters as their own as they proceed to fuck you with their words in hot, steamy online sessions - I guarantee you, it is not me. It will not be me. That is all. :)

And quite possibly by Paypal too, but I'm unsure about that point. Long story short: Every purchase made through Boosty is now flagged as suspicious or fraudulent activity and blocks the account or card associated with the purchase. The account can be 'unblocked' but it seems neither the personnel at the local bank branches nor the people on the 24/7 bank help line has the power to fully unblock cards used in the process of paying through Boosty. It basically KILLS the card forever and I had to get a brand new card. I waited 24 hours to use it, as they said to. But it then blocked and KILLED the new card too, now forcing me to go back and get a SECOND new card. I will not be chancing Boosty again at this time since my bank has recently made a change to confirm all purchases through it as suspiciously fraudulent. So anybody I owe money to, I'm sorry, I literally cannot pay you because my bank said I couldn't. Once I get a SECOND new card to use, I'll only be able to use Paypal. I 'could' try other methods - but Easystart and BuyMeaCoffee have also flagged things with my bank as suspicious too, so those options are out too.

tl;dr: there's going to be a serious drought of future commissions from me until we can get to use Paypal once more for artists I commission. I'm sorry...

UPDATE

A friend is helping me set up with Wise and having a separate international banking account that can operate independently from the bank I'm using with less restrictions (from my understanding). Just waiting until after New Year's to get a Wise banking card and I should be able to make payments once more.

UPDATE 2

I have now gotten a separate card with Wise and it seems I can now use Boosty again, but with Wise, not my bank! I'm back in business commissions artists who can only use Boosty! :D

I have now been scammed three times by 'artists' in the past year who have come to me directly in notes or DMs on FA and Twitter, asking for me to give them a chance to draw for me. I did my due diligence and checked on their accounts - ensured they weren't created yesterday, checked the quality of their works and its consistency, confirmed some sort of stable release posting schedule, etc. Even though everything checked out, the moment money transferred hands/accounts, I either got ghosted or I got a product that was so subpar in quality and nowhere near the standard they advertised going into the transaction. In fact, the latest one basically traced parts of my previous commissions to make a 'new' one and it was obvious. Now, I must begin the laborious Paypal refund process to reclaim what I lost for each one, and it's frustrating.

To that end, I am making a decision going forward about commissions I make: Unless you are a known artist I'm aware of by name, or if I'm currently watching you (thus showing interest to one day commission), I will not be accepting 'cold call' DMs or notes from people asking me to commission them. I've been burned enough times now that the answer will always be no. I'm sorry if that sucks for actual real, new artists who are just trying to get their foot in the door, but I simply can't take that chance anymore.

I won't lie that roughly 90% of my commissions are most likely from Russian artists and 98% from here on FA. As of this morning, Paypal and several other services shut off for the Russian populace. I've been staying quiet on the whole issue, because I felt what could I possibly contribute? I don't know what it's like to be living in either Ukraine or Russia or in the neighboring states. I have no clue what it is really like to be suffering under such hardship with sanctions or being in fear for my life with the next shell bombing. How could I possibly contribute anything worthwhile through words where it might just end up being construed as virtue signaling and making it all about me? Because it isn't. It's about them. The people being affected and their livelihoods being threatened. There was nothing I could say that they weren't saying better themselves. So I stayed silent.

So instead, I did it with action. I had already paid quite a few Russian and Ukrainian artists before the war kicked off for commission work. They already got my money and they could use it to fund their evacuation from their homes or whatever else they needed. Even if it was prior-war kick off, the money still went to a good cause and I was happy they got what they needed to continue living. I was looking into other artists to commission during this time, finding an American one (I think) for an idea, but costing like $1000-1200. I was interested, but then the war kicked off. I had to cancel this commission and felt my money would be better served elsewhere. With that $1000, I could help 3-4 artists in dire straits instead of just one - who said what was happening in Russia didn't affect them, so it shouldn't have mattered. Regardless, I took my idea and gave it to a Russian artist who was thankful for the income and did my idea to perfection. Was later called out as a liar by this non-Ukrainian/Russian artist because I took the same idea and gave it to another. Last I checked, what I did with my income and my ideas are my own business, especially if I had cancelled the commission beforehand with the first artist before seeking out another artist, which in this case, was what I did and the order it happened. If using my ideas and my money to help artists and people in need make me a liar, then so be it.

Now with the advent of Paypal and many other services shutting down for Russians and several pieces left unpaid/partially paid, I'm left out on a lot of money and now must speak up with this journal. All said and done, across multiple artists in my queue, without putting a firm number on it, I'm in the mid-quad digits in money spent on awaiting art. And with many Ukrainian/Russian artists either currently unavailable, unmotivated and/or evacuating or attempting to improve their life circumstances, the status of many of those commissions are in flux and may be cancelled or postponed. I've really no idea. I hope things return to normalcy for all of them and my heart goes out, but as it stands, I think I've reached my limit, as of today, of money I can spend and the people I can help. I have a lot of commissions waiting to be completed, but it would not be right or fair of me for those who got their full payment to take the idea I gave them to realize and give it to another (contrary to the example above, where no money was exchanged and was cancelled prior). So, my own ideas are held hostage by this war and I cannot afford anymore at this time. So commissions will stop for me for a time as I await the hopefully positive resolution for this war. I wish I could have helped more before payment services shut down, but life isn't so kind.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this. I know my words may not mean much and to some, this journal may appear shallow or hollow. I've no idea how you will interpret it, but just know my heart is at least in the right place. May you all be safe.

I'm utterly stunned and floored! I've honestly not been keeping track since I first created this account way back in 2016! Someone had to point it out to me that I reached this milestone! Thank you all for following my work, my characters, my writing and my creative vision. And kudos to all the talented artists I've reached out to to make these beautiful galleries to bring these characters to life! For those curious about the next book in Taylor's series, I'm actually just putting on the finishing touches to the final manuscript edit for the second book! I should be done this week and then after that? Nothing to do but wait on the artists who are doing the interior graphics and book cover before I format and get the book ready for publication next year! Here's to many more years of Murana, Taylor and co.!

Yep! After much deliberation, discussion and definitely anxiety inducing evenings - I've created a Discord server for fans or readers of the book (and hopefully the rest of the series) to come together, discuss it, talk tailmaws, make new friends, converse with other furries and of course, to chat with me in near real time. (I'm not always available due to real life, work, writing the books, etc.)

I already got a set of mods (all based in America, so we do need a few more based in other time zones, but we'll need to wait and evaluate folks over time after joining before we accept new applications) and these mods will be your entry gatekeepers into the server. You'll need to read the rules and ask a simple question or two from the mods before you are moved into the server proper. The entry channel might appear empty, but I assure you the mod team is watching/reading all messages put in there! Be patient and a mod will get with you. Due to time zones, please give up to 24 hours before pinging again in the entry channel. Thank you!

I've no idea how well this will pan out. I know I've seen other authors create similar communities, but I have no idea how this one will go. So hopefully we can build a healthy and friendly community around Taylor, Ahya and their book series! I hope to see nothing but friendly faces there!

It is finally time! Time to announce the official release date for my first book in Taylor Renee's book series! It has been a long time in coming. My first art post of Taylor was uploaded on July 8, 2017 and now, 4 years later, that is the date of the first book's release: July 8, 2021! At that time I will be posting up another journal with a bunch of links where you can go purchase and either download or have a hard copy printed version that'll be delivered to your home! I'm trying to make it available on most eBook formats and the usual paperback and hardback variants. No audio version will be available at this time (it costs a fair bit).

Book one has been in the production cycle for a very long time. It's first draft manuscript was finished at beginning of March 2020. It was given to beta readers until June. Then handed off to the editor in September and then finally polished and finalized in January of 2021! And now it has taken me this long to figure out the self-publishing process to be confident enough that I can make this release date! I still have more to do before it's all finalized, but now the end goal is in sight and I can continue on to the next book (which its first draft is completed too and I'm already writing book three!).

Why this release date? One reason, of course, is the 4 year anniversary of Taylor's first appearance on the internet. Second is that I also decided July 8th to be her birthday and she turns 19 in the first chapter of book one! So it all made sense to coincide everything together on the same date. I hope you're all as excited to read this first book of six as I am having written it! I'm going to be a published author soon and I can't wait to show you all that I've got to offer with Taylor, Ahya and her world! Be ready!

This is a short journal post, but I wanted you all to know that as of last night, I just finished the first draft of Taylor Renee's first book and have handed it out to all my beta readers I personally selected. They'll be running through her story with a fine-toothed comb and really helping me polish and refine it into something I can be proud of! It is going to be a long process until publication, but I hope to make my December 2020 timeline of full self-publication! You'll be seeing a journal from me by then showing you exactly where to purchase the book and download!

On board with me is Ruolina ( https://www.furaffinity.net/user/ruolina ), who will be doing the front/back cover art for her books, and Kam1 ( https://www.furaffinity.net/user/kam1/ ), who will be doing interior black and white illustrations for every chapter of her books! They have agreed to work with me for the long-haul for at least these first three books that form her core trilogy and will provide the visual foundation of the look for Taylor Renee and her world! It takes a lot to publish a book, be it traditional publishing or self-publishing. Either route takes a lot of money, especially more so when I'm going the self-publishing route. I must build my own platform from scratch, webpages, marketing and all and must continue to spread awareness of this upcoming book of Taylor's. Everything is on me to make this book a success and for that, unfortunately, I do need money to expand my reach and really access all the target audiences that my character and her world would be perfect for! To that end, I'm starting now, almost a year out from my predicted publishing date of Dec 2020, to start building my platform for Taylor's first book and you can help out too with offering small donations to get me up to 'Gold' status in Ko-fi and from there if supporters wish to give more, I can give out those options. Now I completed this story a good time ago, but for those who were curious about Murana Wolford's story and how all her pictures were linked together, it is a completed story and ready for viewing/reading at any time! That's right! A full length novel of about 350+ pages! It takes place in the world/city of Zootopia and focuses primarily on Murana and her family and friends, although there are cameos and supporting characters from the main Zootopia film cast. It is a mature story, meant for older audiences and deals with a lot of serious and dark themes. Do not go in expecting it to be for everyone like the movie was.

Do be aware it deals with sexual things, but it is viewed through the eyes of humor to provide entertainment than titillation.
