Posted 12 years agoAs it stands, we are already struggling to make ends meet, especially due to the lack of options we are working with. To make things worse, 
was in a car accident this week... He is alright, thankfully....but He and his car was towed to a particularly shady tow yard. We are now struggling to remove his car from that garage due to the very high and sudden fee that was thrown at us.
I am relaying his journal in the hopes that someone might provide us some insight as to how we can deal with this mess.
So last week I was in my first car wreck. I was driving on the highway on my way to work, when I suddenly I feel the rear end of my car drop and the whole thing starts to shudder, accompanied by a horrible grinding sound. I look in the mirror and I can see my rear left tire just bouncing away. My vehicle starts swerving around, and I wrestle with the steering wheel, trying to keep my car in my lane, but I lose control. I start to spin, veering to the left, and my front end crashes into the dirt embankment that divides the two sides of the highway. I continue to spin, feeling the rear end hit the embankment as well. Eventually my car grinds to a halt, blocking two lanes of traffic.
Needless to say the experience was horrifying.
Thankfully I didn't hit anyone else, and since I hit a dirt embankment instead of guardrails or concrete barricades, I didn't cause any damage to state property, so the officer who arrived on the scene didn't have to file a report. I myself was unhurt except for a pulled muscle in my neck, which has since healed.
As for my car, well it's seen better days. The rear left tire is gone (nobody could find where it went), the front left tire is wrecked, my right headlight is broken and the right side of my car is all banged up, front and back. I only had one spare tire, so I couldn't drive it anywhere. The officer called a tow truck to come pick me up. Enter the antagonist in this tale: Action Towing.
The driver himself was friendly and helpful. I hold no animosity towards him. As he loads my car onto his truck, he tells me that this is going to cost $10 per mile, with the first five miles free due to my AAA membership. He goes on to say that my insurance company might even cover the towing if I have the proper coverage. So he drives me and my car seventeen miles to the tow yard, which I have since come to learn is a veritable hell on earth for cars. A vehicle purgatory. The driver drops me off at the office building and tells me to go inside, and they'll give me the prerequisite paperwork, so I go in.
There's two people off in the back of the area behind the counter having a conversation, laughing about something, while a third sits in the waiting area, watching something on the little TV they have set up in there. I'm standing there for fifteen minutes before they acknowledge my presence. The man laying on the waiting couch rolls over to face me and says rather rudely, "You need something?" I explain the situation the best I can, still rattled from the car crash I was in, and they tell me that the truck driver was mistaken, that there was no paperwork or anything else I need to worry about. This struck me as odd, so I press on, asking "Are you sure?" and stuff like that. They tell me not to worry about it and send me on my way.
So I wait to hear back from my insurance company, and they inform me that I do not have the proper coverage to cover the damages or the towing expense. I then get back in touch with Action Towing, to get a recommendation for a mechanic for my vehicle, and to talk about payment for the towing cost, since my insurance company won't be covering it.
That's when I get hit with the bombshell.
They inform me that the cost for towing was going to be $240, twice of what I thought I would be paying ($170 for the seventeen miles, but the five mile reduction from my AAA membership would bring that down to $120), and then they start bringing up all these additional fees that I was not told about on the day I left my car there. I'm being charged an additional $70 for something that the girl on the phone couldn't properly explain, and a $75 a day storage fee for leaving my car there. (Which stands at $525 at the time I'm writing this journal.) I start by asking why the towing charge is so much, what about my AAA reduction, and she tells me that she'll have to get a supervisor to speak with me, asks for my number, and says she'll call me back shortly. Time goes by and I get no call. I then realized that their office closes early on the weekend. Which means I'll have to call back tomorrow, while the storage fees rack up.
Aside from the towing fee, which they're charging me double for by my calculations, none of this was even brought up the day I arrived, so I'm fairly certain I'm getting ripped off here. Nothing like this has happened to me before, and I'm at a loss for what to do. If anyone has any legal knowledge about this sort of thing, I could really use some guidance right now.

for helping me fix my loverbunny's car. It's been running beautifully these past few weeks. I also want to thank everyone who's been helping me and so much while we work toward building our careers and all that good stuff. I am nearing my midterms, so once again I may be reclusive for a while. However, i would like to start livestreaming again soon.
In addition, I would really like to find someone who's skilled with JavaScript or Python. I am STILL in the process of making a side-scroll adventure/puzzle video game to later be submitted to steam's Greenlight.
I should have a trailer ready by December. Trust me, some of you will be very interested in lending your talents to this project.

Posted 13 years agoBoyfriend starts his job tomorrow. and it's a long commute. But out of fucking nowhere his rear suspension on his town car just goes out today. The timing couldn't be worse.
Anyone else here have to deal with suspension problems? what is the best option for us? Everywhere I check online seems so shady with their fake positive product reviews.... and taking it to a dealership will cost an arm and a leg. We are already quadruple amputees as far as finances go.
Anyone with suspension replacing experience living in the bay area?

New Livestream Schedule

Here is my new livestream schedule so watchers and potential commissioners can plan things out better.

Moved
Posted 13 years agome and finally finished our move. good god that was an ordeal, but now it's finally over. Until it's time to move again in a few weeks...or however long it takes us to find an affordable apartment in this area.
we are currently rooming with three really awesome guys who let us use their living room temporarily while we find a more solid living space for the two of us.

Livestream

I'm going to start livestreaming regularly in order to maintain a better connection with this community, to help motivate me to work on commissions in a timely manner, and to simply improve my work. In addition, I need to open for commissions in order to afford groceries and rent for September. I have no idea how to livestream properly, so a step by step instruction would really help me out. I plan to livestream tonight if possible.

Homeless by October

and I are being kicked out before October. We are told it has nothing to do with us, but apparently the homeowner here has plans for the place that doesnt include us. We've asked for more time, but he seems adamant. Ouch.
We need to find a cheap (but safe) place to live within the Bay area so that I can finish my courses and graduate this coming December. This was kind of sprung on us, and frankly, we dont have much of a plan yet. If there's anyone on FA. ANYONE who can help us search for a place, or knows anything about finding suitable homes/apartments in the bay area, I would really appreciate the help. In addition, if there's anyone interested in living somewhere in the San Jose/San Fransisco area, we could really use the roommate(s) to split on a place. Better yet, if there's anyone in the bay area with room for 2 more roommates, that too would be very helpful... I'm actively seeking employment, so this dire situation shouldnt last too long. Just until January at the latest.

Right now we're working on setting up the digital version, so if you weren't able to pick it up at the Anthrocon, no sweat. Also, I have a few copies of the physical version left. If you guys don't mind paying the shipping and handling, I'll be more than happy to send em out.
So we had a good time. Busy but good! But we didn't get to hang out with nearly as much people as we had wanted -___- In any case, it was still nice to see a lot of you there.
I will be working on everybody's commissions during these few vacation days ahead of me. I have two lists now that I'll be tackling at the same time. Thanks again for the support. Without school giving me a hard time, I can focus on making these commissions look real nice :3

Posted 13 years agoAs far as my art goes, what do you consider high definition? The images I post here on FA usually do not exceed 1000 pixels. For the CD project, and any of my works that go beyond FA, what would you consider a good resolution?
keep in mind that I don't exactly draw on the largest resolution to begin with. (somewhere around 2000 and 3000 pixels at most. ) so higher resolution than what I work with is never a good idea.

trying not to overdo it guys. I'd really not want to injure myself before the AC. I'm kicking it into overdrive. Not a single moment will be spared. I will draw and draw and draw very diligently in these upcoming two weeks. Not only do I aim to finish a good handfull of these commissions, but I want to have this awesome new CD ready for you guys. In addition I am juggling five classes. How do I do it? I'm fucking awesome, that's how.
In addition, I am also playing catchup with the upcoming CD. yes. I am cutting it VERY very close with that. I dont want to half ass it. In short, the CD will contain 20+ NEW illustrations and an additional 15- 20 pages of comic. There will also be good handfull of extras. It will cost 20 dollars, and will be a bit more hardcore than the last CD.

Anthrocon prep
Posted 13 years agoWorking working working so much... soooo much. I'm determined to get a good headstart on my career before this year is over. I'd like to be able to help others soon, the way I've been helped. Graduation is one more quarter and a half away.... But for now, lets focus on the upcoming Anthrocon. Again, I'm going to be in the Dealer's Den. You can meet me and my bunny at table L09. I've got nearly everything ready, and now it's just a matter of finishing more commissions and getting that new CD done. There's also a few other things that would be fun to make available for you guys, Like bookmarks, badges and the like. I really love doing this, and I want to know more about what would interest you. Please share some ideas if you have any.

Posted 13 years agoI don't want to sound like a deadbeat, or a begger.... but I'm going to have to do something soon. I appreciate the help a few weeks ago, but once again , i'm facing a huge brick wall.
To put it simply: Rent + additional surprise expenses have left me incapable of purchasing a plane ticket to the Anthrocon so far. Everything else is already set up. table, registration, hotel, etc........ But so far, no plane ticket.
Is anyone willing to pay for my round trip flight to and from this year's AC? I will pay it right back (at the con if possible) as soon as I make the difference at the Dealer's table. I am not going to the Anthrocon for fun... (though I really appreciate seeing so many of you) I don't take breaks. I focus and work the entire time so that I can finish as many sketches/linearts as possible while there.
as a full time student who's still trying to land a decent job... cons are truly where I can make money for rent/food/tuition.

But I am truly locked out in every direction... right now my only options are friends and family.
It appears that my vehicle registration is locked due to an overdue parking violation. one that had slid under my radar due to my busy college lifestyle and the chaos of moving twice under a six month period. my only real means of making it to campus 3 times a week is via car. I cannot afford to miss any more class. But I also cannot afford the parking violation + registration fee + smog check. which amounts to over 400 dollars at this point. I feel trapped. There are no options for me aside from trying to finish everyone's commissions and then taking on more before the anthrocon. (which is highly unrealistic) Rent is due soon, I will barely make that end meet this month.
if anyone can help in any way, I would appreciate it.

Demo reel
Posted 13 years agoSo I find myself nearing the beginning of my professional career. Though there's a TON of art in the works for you guys, I've also been hard at work on my portfolio and demo reel.
With that in mind. I would love to find a really good 2 - 4 minute song to apply to my professional demo reel. This can go in any direction, It doesn't matter what genre of music, though staying away from lyrics would be ideal.
my demo reel includes:
-high detail digital sculptures
-high detail digital drawings
-sci fi fashion/outfits
-atmospheric backgrounds and environments
-lighting in various 3D engines.
-Character animation and lip sync (meant to pause the music at a strategic point to display this)
I have over ten minutes worth of material that is to be cut down to 1:45 - 2:00. Most of the work required now is just editing... But I'd love to follow some music to some extent.
So right now the thing that's holding me back is finding a suitable song >_>
I appreciate your creative input, but for professional reasons I will not link my FA art with my professional work. Therefore I cannot share my career work at this time.

-So we've got some horrible massive ship/crab/monster machine things that come from the blackness of space.
-They've come to wipe the galaxy clean.
-Don't forget that they're powerful as fuck, and perfectly capable of taking out all intelligent life in the galaxy. (as they've done so many times before)
-Every civilization has been devastated so far.
-Sit still for a moment and ponder this overwhelming and hopeless setup.
-Our solution? ----> Guerrilla warfare

Sure I've not played the game, and things could end up being very different, but ...as far as marketing has shown us...things are looking a little on the hurp durp side.

where would some of you consider to be the best image sharing site to use? I enjoy the convenience of being able to link people to works in progress. But sometimes these are adult only images. Unfortunately, so far I've had tons of trouble with sites like Photobucket because they keep deleting all my adult work and then slap me on the wrist as though I should be ashamed of myself.
I really don't appreciate feeling watched over like that... I know i'ts been years since this happened to me, and I have no idea how things have changed. So I'd like to hear from some of you what you think of other image sharing sites. or even Photobucket (if they decided to fucking grow up since then)
In short, i'd like to try a photo and image sharing site that wont charge me or monitor my posts like an annoying religious relative. Anyone know a place?
