SPECIAL REPORT! Floods move the River Rats Away From River

With all the rains and floods, the GM of the Quad City River Rats has announced today that Hormel Park will not be ready to go for the team's home opener.
Sand barriers have currently kept water out of the ballpark itself, but there is no telling how long they can hold, plus the parking lots around the stadium are 75% submerged.
The Rats instead will be playing their home games at Wapello County Stadium, the home of the Wapello Valley University Braves and the FCAA College Furry Series, in Ottumwa, IA until further notice.
While County Stadium doesn't hold over 45,000 like Hormel Park, it's capacity of 31,400 is the largest of any college-owned ballpark in the FCAA.

Clark Addison: Play Him or Put Him Out to Pasture?

The last couple of years. Quad City River Rats' Catcher Clark Addison (Male Billy Goat) was a true all-star, but so far this year, has not yet had a hit this season with only 1 start and a pawfull of pinch-hit appearances.
On the a brighter note, he has only struck out once so far with more walks, so don't mistake his BA for his OBP. According to Rats' Manager Ron Zamboni (Male Muskrat), "Addison hasn't been showing us what he has in the past through batting practices, but we are hopeful that he can return to the starting lineup on a more regular basis soon."

Coach Von Schnauzer fully fit, but will miss playoffs

3 Months Ago, Spokane Rapids coach Steve Von Schnauzer suffered serious injuries from a car accident on Interstate 94 in Spokane Rapids and had to step down from his position. Last Tuesday, he was medically cleared but announced no plans to return to coaching until next season. In a recent press conference, he had this to say:
"As much as I have enjoyed coaching before my tragic accident and yearn to return to doing so, I think the Rapids would be lost if I returned during this crucial time. The playoffs are serious business and I need to let their current coach keep them in their current mindset. This is neither a resignation nor a retirement though, you can be assured that I will return next season!"
During his leave of absence, his wife Olga gave birth to a second son as well named Arnold. Many speculate that Von Schnauzer may spend this time with his pups, though on his Twitter, he has announced that he will sit courtside for every Rapids' postseason game.

ShopKo Center to re-open ahead of schedule

Last fall, the
's Green Bay Tundra had to relocate to St. Louis, MO mid-season when a fire broke out at the ShopKo Center, caused by their late coach Mitch Hammer. It was then estimated that the repairs would take until mid-June.
This morning, however, ShopKo Center chairman Mike Dorr (male bobcat) announced that with the combined efforts of contractors and volunteers, that the arena repairs are now complete a month ahead of schedule. In addition, an undisclosed bonus described as "lucrative" has been awarded to Lombardi Lumber out of Appleton, WI and Canoli Bros. Construction out of Rosemont, IL.
Two events have alredy been booked for Memorial Day weekend as well and according to Dorr, those who volunteered will be admitted free to both. The 1st will be this upcoming Saturday when the famous Gibtown Showmen basketball team takes on fellow independent team, the Rucker Park Rangers, then on Monday night, the Furry Wrestling Federation will be holding a special webcast-only show. Promoters of both events are planning to hold special ceremonies to thank the volunteers.

FCAA Losing its independents
Posted 12 years agoBy Angela Vix, FSPN College Sports Analyst
Long ago, independent schools used to dominate the many sports in the FCAA, but that doesn't seem the case anymore, except for Acadiana University Baseball, a frequent qualifier of the College Furry Series, but starting this Fall, the Ragin' Acadians will even be moving into a conference: the Deep South Conference.
Fellow independent schools Ponciana University, Florida Manatee University, and Texarkana University will be joining them as well. Not only that, but the University of New Jersey has also announced that it will be joining a conference next year: the Colonial Conference.
There is also much speculation that Munciana Memphit University may also join a conference soon. It is known that the Alpha 12, Heartland Conference, Great Lakes Conference, and Smokey Mountain Conference have all made offers to that Muncie, IN school.
Acadiana perhaps has the most FCAA prestige of any independent school with 13 baseball championships, 3 consecutive basketball tournament appearances (including the 2011 Furry Four), and the National football championship in 1967 and 1969.
Perhaps the greatest independent school in history was Underwood College, who won 12 basketball championships, 4 wrestling championships, and 2 Track & Field Championships prior to joining the New England Conference in 1982.

FURCAR Photo Finish Closest Ever, Victory Lane Gets Crowded
Posted 12 years agoBy Dr. Harry Paunch, FSPN Motorsports Reporter
The FURCAR Series' smallest track provided huge excitement on Sunday as the series tackled the tricky paperclip-shaped Martinsville Speedway in Virginia. At only .526-mile around, little Martinsville is the smallest track that FURCAR races on, but it may have been witness to the closest finish in the history of racing as Raz Yoshi and Silaria battled nose-to-nose and fender-to-fender at the end of the event. What looked to be in the bag for Raz quickly turned into a duel as the hard-charging Silaria drove her #05 car through lapped traffic and was on the yoshi's bumper with 10 laps to go. From there, she and Raz would wage a fierce battle, with the unicorn able to get alongside Raz's #30 car going into the turns, but Raz was able to get the run out onto the straightaway and keep her at bay. With two laps remaining, the time for playing around was over as Silaria drove hard into the first turn and made contact with Raz, sending him up the track and her to the lead, and it looked like the race was Silaria's as she took the white flag.
But the tables were turned and Raz put the bumper of his car to Silaria, and they went down the backstretch for the final time with the 30 car in front of the 05. In a daring maneuver and with nothing to lose, Silaria tried to make a power move on the outside while Raz hugged the curbing in turns 3 and 4 to guard his lead. The move drew the two cars even as they beat and banged off of each other coming to the checkered flag, the cars perfectly even with each other as they crossed the finish line, leaving the sellout crowd of over 65,000 as well as FURCAR officials scratching their muzzles and asking the same question: Who won the race? FURCAR officials went over the replays and computer scoring monitors to try and determine the winner of the race, going as far as to try and get to the tenth decimal place to see if they could separate the two. In the end, FURCAR decided to declare both Raz Yoshi AND Silaria the winner of the race, and in turned set off one of the greatest burnouts in the history of FURCAR, with both drivers going down the frontstretch toward Turn 1, while Raz doubled back toward Turn 4, and they both made a pass toward each other, filling the front straight and the grandstands with tire smoke and the smell of burnt rubber.
And both drivers were allowed to take their place in Victory Lane as well, with twice as much Gatorade flying as they emerged from their cars. And as customary for race winners at Martinsville, which is also the oldest track on the FURCAR circuit, both drivers will receive one of the most unique trophies in racing: a grandfather clock. There was talk about how they would split it, but in a gesture of kindness and sportsmanship, it was decided by Raz that Silaria should keep the clock in commemoration of her maiden FURCAR victory. For the red yoshi, it was his second career FURCAR victory as he took the checkered flag at last year's race in Atlanta.
However, summing up the afternoon took very little effort in comparison to the intensity of the race. "That was too cool," Raz said when asked about the battle between him and Silaria as he took a sip of Gatorade and went back to the celebrations, "I've never had that happen to me in my FURCAR career and I doubt I will again." Next week, the fastest furs in stock car racing will go from the slowest track to one of the fastest at the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway, where pole speeds last season were in excess of 190 mph.

Roses Complete Epic Comeback, Win Furry Cup Over Tail Storm
Posted 12 years agoBy Marc Bessier, FSPN Hockey Writer
They said it couldn't couldn't be done. The series was as good as over, and with their leading scorer out of the series, it was a matter of time.
Except someone forgot to tell the Portland Roses.
Down 3-0 in their Furry Cup Finals series to the Erie Tail Storm, the Roses stormed back and capped an improbable comeback in front of a raucous sold-out Rose Garden crowd by defeating the Tail Storm 3-0 in the deciding Game 7. And without the services of league MVP candidate Aodhan Murphy after the star forward injured his arm, the Roses had to look for offense elsewhere.
"We knew it would be tough without Murph in the lineup," defenseman Paul Shepherd said in the locker room, "but we had to find a way." Shepherd did his part, as he and defense partner Wingdog kept the dynamic duo of Beino Conway and Bedtime Bear in check over the remainder of the series, while goaltender Hari Pehltonen stood on his head and ears to help turn the tide for the Roses. His 32-save shutout in the deciding game has left some to say that the Finnish lapine's status as one of the world's elite goalies has been cemented.
It wouldn't have been possible without an unsung hero, and that came in the form of Liam Good. The diminutive penguin stepped up and played big when his team needed him to, scoring the game-winning goals in Games 4 and 5 to keep the Roses alive, then silenced the crowd in Erie by netting a hat trick in Game 6 to turn the momentum of the series in the Roses' favor. With big name players like Murphy, Shepherd and Pehltonen grabbing the attention, it is easy to overlook Good, which his teammates and coaches say makes him that much more dangerous.
"Liam's always got something to prove," head coach Rashida Thornweaver said, "He's one of the hardest workers in practice and it shows up in the game. He just loves being on the ice and putting in the effort to help the team." It is unknown whether Good will remain with the Roses as his performance in the Finals has garnered a lot of attention from FHL clubs looking for a clutch performer. But at least he can savor the sweet, and somewhat fishy taste of victory with his Roses teammates.
On the other side, there was a feeling of shock and disbelief in the Tail Storm locker room, which we were told to stay as far away from as possible to stay out of the range of the notoriously temperamental Belic Bear. Eventually Conway, the team captain, came out to address the media. "We're very much disappointed with the outcome," he said, "They did what they had to do to beat us, and thiis one's gonna hurt for a while, but we're determined to come back better than ever next season." And while the Tail Storm look to Conway to inspire them, they can take comfort in the fact that their core of Conway and defensemen Belic and K'gra Leopard are all signed to long-term contracts to remain in Erie. That means there will be a lot more success for the Tail Storm, and perhaps a Furry Cup or two in the future as Conway pointed out. "Last season, they lost it in seven games. This year, they won in seven games, so I like our chances already."

The Portland Roses kept their Furry Cup hopes alive tonight with a much-needed 6-5 win over the Tail Storm in Erie, PA tonight. The Storm currently lead the series 3-1.
While the Roses won the game, however, they lost their regular-season MVP and shoe-in for Rookie of the Year Aodhan Murphy to an elbow injury.
Prominant postseason teammate Marty Walnut had this to say: "Since the start of this season, Murph has brought much hope to our team. He even became the 1st bird that this fox squirrel really became friends with. It'll be a major challenge to win the cup without him, but we'll be ready to fight for it tooth or claw regardless!"
Murphy led most of the regular season in points and scored a goal and 2 assists in the last game.

Last year, the Spokane Rapids made the FBA playoffs, but were totally dominated in the 1st round. Their preseason was quite mediocre-at-best, and if the only regular season game of theirs you saw was their opener, you might not think that their new head coach Steve Von Schnauzer was going to make them much better this year.
After that opening game though, boy did those Rapids start raging, having won their last 5 games and taking over 1st place in the Northwest! We even caught up with Coach Von Schnauzer following his win over the Montana Howlers, who had this to say:
"I know my relationship with the team started out a little rocky, and it showed in our 1st few games, but being a new coach to this league, I kind of expected that. I'm sure many are looking at Zip-Nut's stellar offense mainly, but he's not the only one I credit for the success! This really has been a team effort! Knutten sure has done much for us this year, but Exxen, Doral, Chesuk, Ziggler, and even the bench have all been stepping up on the plate whenever I send them out there! I am very proud of how we're doing so far, am quite sure our team is too, but we can't get too cocky, the season is still very young and many tough challenges lie ahead. I hope we can ride this momentum as long as we can and if we can stay healthy, I believe we'll have a good shot at that Championship trophy at the end of the season!"
When I 1st heard reports of him running wrestling drills in the preseason, I will admit that I was quite skeptical of his methods, despite his 2011 FCAA National Championship coaching the West Burlington Blackhawks, but it may an example of a change this team needs! The Rapids are certainly looking like contenders this year! For FSPN, I'm Charlie Barker.

From the Hockey Rink to the Wrestling Ring
Posted 13 years ago(Excerpt from FSPN FurCenter)
Fez Walker: It's not often professional wrestling is discussed here on the Furry Sports Network, however the Furcadian Wrestling Federation has made our headlines today when their founder and Chairman Maynard Von Schnauzer announced the signing of
fhl defender from the St. Louis Spirits "Big" Bjorn Sandell. The former GM of the Tundra/Spirits had this to say in a recent press conference:
"Maynard: When I heard that my good friend Bjorn wanted out of the FHL, I had to jump on it. Since the late Mitch Hammer took over as coach at the beginning of the season, his interest in the wrestling ring has grown tremendously! We know he'll be happy with this out, and welcome him to our ring! If the FHL has any problems, too bad! We will gladly pay any penalty they throw at him, afterall, they're more crooked than we are so I'm sure they'll accept it!"
Fez: We also got a hold of Sandell in St. Louis, following the team's double-overtime win against Bridgeport.
"Bjorn: Take a good look at tonight's game, if the FHL listens to me, this will be the last time you ever see me on skates for any team in this corrupt-ass league! If not, the longer they force me to play, the more Hell I'm going to make them pay, so Commissioner Conway, do the right thing and let me the (censored) off this ice! I already got new footwear to put on and that's wrestling boots! If you think I talked (censored) about this league before, wait until I get off the ice and into that ring Saturday night!"
Fez: Sandell is slated to make his pro wrestling debut at FWF Blood Saturday night at 8pm Central (Furcadian Standard) time at the Allegria Square Garden, broadcasted on Furcadia.

fhl's Green Bay Tundra/St. Louis Spirits "Big" Bjorn Sandell has demanded an early release from his contract, wishing to retire early from the FHL. In a recent press conference, he had this to say:
"I used to think this was an honest and fair league, but in recent weeks, the league has seemed to become more and more corrupt, as if they're being run by the mafia, or the Manager of the 1919 Chicago White Sox! While I haven't had any issues with the new team management, I can no longer bear (no pun intended) to affiliate myself with this league.
They are losing more and more integrity on a weekly basis now, which is why I want an early release from my contract, as early as possible, that is! I don't care if this ends my hockey career, and don't even care what penalties I may have to pay from the contract, I just want out! I already have other job offers elsewhere anyways, so I'm not worried about where I go!"

Update on the ShopKo Center
Posted 13 years agoFormer Tundra General Manager Maynard Von Schnauzer has declined to say anything to the media, while ousted owner Fritz Drury had this to say: "I know I wouldn't have wanted to do what Mitch did, but the league kicked me out, so it's in their paws now. I appreciate that he waited for the arena to be empty so nobody else was harmed."
While the team hasn't made it official, many speculate that the Tundra may play the remainder of this year's home games at the 14,200 seat EAA Pavilion in Oshkosh, WI, which served as the team's home ice from 1984-1987 when they were the Wisconsin Norse Stars and the arena was known as the Fennec Forum.
The team's insurance is expected to cover most of the damages while the earliest contractors have estimated re-opening the arena is mid-June 2013.
The FCAA has announced that due to the damages, the 2013 Green Bay Subregional for the FCAA Basketball Tournament will be played at the Macomb Coliseum in Warren, MI and are planning to use the ShopKo Center for the 2014 tournament.

Fire in Green Bay
Posted 13 years agoby Bernie Von Schnauzer, FSPN News Director
A fire broke at the ShopKo Center in Green Bay, WI today at approximately 3:15pm local time, about an hour after the team left following practice. So far, police and fire officials have reported 1 fatality: Green Bay Tundra head coach and
fhl Hall of Famer Mitch "The Sledge" Hammer, who was found burnt to death in his chair in the coach's office.
Green Bay Fire Marshall Victor Bombero believes that coach Hammer may have started the blaze in his office, which spread to the team offices, locker rooms, media room and lower concourses before fire fighters could put it out. He reports that the arena can be repaired, but should remain closed to the public until it can.
The FCAA's Great Lakes Conference, who holds their annual basketball and ice hockey tournaments there, has announced that until the arena can be repaired, their tournaments will be re-located to the Stockyard Arena in Chicago, IL. Vulpes Fulva University, who hosts 2 regular-season basketball and hockey games at the ShopKo Center per year, has announced that those games will be played at their regular home, the EAA Pavilion in Oshkosh, WI. They have also invited the Tundra to play at that arena until the ShopKo Center can be used again.

Skye Goodfellow shows up over the eastern skyline, his white wings seesawing lazily as he glides toward the Doodle Gardens. He is wearing a white Tundra road jersey and black jeans, and carrying his satchel full of playing gear in his left paw.
A small cadre of curious onlookers has already gathered around Gate A, two hours in advance of the game with the home town favorite Hamilton Wanderers. They have found Skye’s means of commuting to work more interesting than what he actually does there.
But not by much. Coming into tonight’s game, Skye was the proud owner of four goals and five assists, two goals and two assists have come since he was traded to Green Bay from Portland in exchange for Vav, the gifted toucan right winger.
Skye banks into a turn toward the fans and glides toward them, giving a friendly wave with his free paw. Then, unsure whether he’d get real love from this crowd, changed direction again, climbing toward a soft landing on the arena’s roof. He knows the novelty of flying to work on his own angel wings would evaporate quickly without some real goal production to satisfy the fans.
Skye needen’t have worried. He came away from the contest with one goal, one assist. Before you debunk the one goal, let me tell you that that came by way of 14 shots on goal, seven in the first period alone. There is much to be said for perseverance.
It is after this fine performance that I was able to secure Skye for an interview.
Jack Van Weezer: Tell me the story of what Skye Goodfellow did before he was bitten by the hockey bug.
SG: I was once the guardian angel of a Alpha League Baseball player, all the way until the time he got “called up by the angels that really can fly to right field.” Another thing I did was teach the newly deceased how to fly. Or rather, how to like flying. Every so often I get somebody who’s afraid of heights.
JVW: What got you interested in playing hockey with the FHL?
SG: Well, I had heard that a couple of Care Bears® were playing there, namely Phoenix Audubon and Bedtime Bear. These guys are similar in personality to me, so I didn’t see any harm in participating. I gotta admit, though, when they put me in the box for two minutes for fighting, I get more than a little embarrassed. I mean, who ever heard of an angel with anger issues?
JVW: And all this is okay with the Big Kahuna upstairs?
SG: Yeah, He’s amazingly understanding about it. He’s actually quite the baseball geek.
JVW: The occasional fighting and roughing penalties seem to have done you more good than harm, actually. When you first entered the league, many said you lacked the toughness it takes to play well. Now the other teams know pretty much that they can get you pissed, and there are some things you won’t let them get away with.
SG: You may be right. You may be right.
JVW: What happens to your wings when you suit up for a game? Are they detachable?
SG: No, but I can shrink them down and suck them inside my back for a few hours at a time. They’re not designed to be in there all the time and they get rather painful if I don’t grow them back out.
JVW: There are some people who say you’re wasting your talents playing hockey, that you’d might make a better superhero.
SG: Ha! A one-trick pony like me? All I do is fly. That’s no superhero. At least, not one that I want to read about in the comics.
JVW: The really big news coming from the Tundra organization is that you have been offered an assistant GM position. You weren’t even playing this time last year. How did you land the job?
SG: I’m truly as surprised by this as you are. I guess, aside from my playing prowess, I’m reasonably good with spreadsheets, and that’s what they were looking for.
JVW: Forgive me for asking about this, but you seem to know a thing or two about matters supernatural. What do you make of Aodhan Murphy’s claim to have blacked out the night he scored a record 4 goals and 3 assist against Seattle?
SG: I think maybe he’s got Bobby Ork’s hockey stick.
JVW: Beg pardon?
SG: I mean he got an artifact! Call the guys from Warehouse 13! Handle the stick with those purple rubber gloves and drop it into that shiny mylar bag! Snap, crackle, pop!
JVW: So you don’t think nothing of it?
SG: Natch.
JVW: Moving on, With your new team's founder in comatose from a stroke, would you say it's added any stress to your job up above?
SG: Indirectly. I do notice a lot of fellow players are having a hard time with it. That's to be expected. But as for me, not so much. Death is a doorway into a world that is much more real and where you are much more alive.
JVW: Do have any thoughts on the new head coach so far after his 1st game?
SG: Never saw a guy more appreciative of me, and I'm happy to have him. I'd have to say he's done quite well.
JVW: Thank you very much for your time.
SG: Fly free.

Olivia Hartstrong: The Portland Roses continue to top the FHL charts with a stunning victory against the top tier team, the Victoria Totem Paws last Thursdays game, 3-0 in an outstanding shutout. Since the team came under new management this season, we were unable to get an interview from their General Manager, Mutteo Cleafurry, as he has been avoiding contact with press and media for quite some time. Instead we got the upcoming rookie starlight, Aodhan Murphy, who not only has proven himself an outstanding leader for the Roses, but is also making legends in the FHL as the current MVP of the season. Mr. Murphy-
Aodhan Murphy: Haha, nah don’t call me Mr. Murphy, that’s my father’s name!
Olivia Hartstrong: Oh yes, of course. Now, Aodhan, this is your first time in the games?
Aodhan Murphy: Yeh, that’s right, but I’ve been playing hockey for a few years now. I’ve had dreams of being in the big leagues, ya know? Well here I am now.
Olivia Hartstrong: Indeed. So can you tell me of your experiences being on the Portland Roses?
Aodhan Murphy: Well I hate to admit it, but I was a bit nervous leaving home and my friends to play professionally, especially since one of my closest friends, Skyler Resias, got drafted to Salt Lake City. Now were like rivals and stuff. It’s a real drag fighting friends.
Olivia Hartstrong: What’s your feelings on your friend’s team, Salt Lake City? They are a top contender in the SouthWest Conference.
Aodhan Murphy: They are really tough guys. I mean besides from Skyler, they have Belonzyk and Raz. Those yoshis are hard headed, dude. I could possibly say they are my greatest rivals, though we cleaned their clocks in the first game, haha.
Olivia Hartstrong: Speaking of which, when you started off, the Roses were ranked the lowest team in the league for a while, how did that feel?
Aodhan Murphy: I felt pretty devastated about it. I mean our team started fighting with each other since Liam Good got signed into the Roses. Me and him used to butt heads all the time, it was crazy heh.
Olivia Hartstrong: Oh yes, I can certainly see that, particularly after your first case with Houston, Liam took a hard blow to the head in the first period. How did you feel at that moment?
Aodhan Murphy: I was destroyed inside, Olivia. I mean me and Liam became really good friends and he took a hit for me. He ended up in coma for about a week. I couldn’t focus on the games. I was too worried about him.
Olivia Hartstrong: Yet you still managed to defeat Houston twice in a row, the rematch with them was massive, 8-2.
Aodhan Murphy: Well I admit I don’t deserve all the credit. Marty Walnut has really been showing his “A” game and I’ve gotten to like the lil pipsqueak. It’s funny because he has a prejudice toward birds but me and him have been getting chummy.
Olivia Hartstrong: Speaking of birds, you team recently recruited another, a toucan, Vav was it? In fact his very first game was a remarkable 3 goals. What’s your relationship with him?
Aodhan Murphy: I haven’t has much of chance to know Vav. The guy is rather strange really. He’s got a glowy nose just like our manager, and he’s always wearing that dark visor, even indoors. He doesn’t seem to be swayed by anything either. The guy’s a mystery, but he’s a hell of a good player, so I welcome him to my team, as well as the rest of them. They are really talented, and they have been kicking ass! Of course, I have been showing my Portland Pride as well. I am a bit of a hero for these guys, not to brag too much, haha!
Olivia Hartstrong: You have certainly showed great promise in the games so far. One night in particular when you were facing Seattle, you scored 4 goals and 3 assists, breaking the record for the highest scoring player in a single night. Care to enlighten us on that game?
Aodhan Murphy: I..well…I’m sorry to say I don’t remember much about it. I kinda blanked out during the first period and I wound up in a hospital bed. The game must have really worn me out haha!
Olivia Hartstrong: Watching the gameplay footage, we noticed you were acting rather peculiar and during that time your hair was glowing pink and you were emitting a very strange energy, almost as if a burning fire was emanating from you. Are you sure you don’t remember anything at all from that night?
Aodhan Murphy: Believe me, I am just as surprised as you, Olivia. I swear I have no idea what happened to me, and I couldn’t get myself to do it again. It was if I was a different person. It’s hard to explain, but I think something inside me snapped and when I came to, I found out about my epic night.
Olivia Hartstrong: Well regardless, you seem to be doing quite well for yourself. Your record as of now is 11 goals and 11 assists. Do you think you can top yourself in the future games?
Aodhan Murphy: Haha, no sweat. Aodhan Raud Murphy has never backed down from a challenge! You just send them at me and I will keep blazing through, because I’m totally feeling the flow!
Olivia Hartstrong: We expect no less from you, Aodhan, especially since your skills are up to par with your older brother, Fallon Murphy, who was the late star player for the Anaheim Ducks before his mysterious disappearance in over a year. Tell me, has Fallon been a big influence to you in the games?
Aodhan Murphy:……….
Olivia Hartstrong: Uhm, Aodhan?
Aodhan Murphy:….I have no brother, he is dead to me….
Olivia Hartstrong: Please, can you tell me more about your broth-
Aodhan Murphy: I HAVE NO BROTHER!
Olivia Hartstrong:…My apologies. Perhaps another time….
Aodhan Murphy: Gah…engh, I need some air…
Olivia Hartstrong: But I have more questions to have you.
Aodhan Murphy: Please…just…give me some air…
Olivia Hartstrong: Well….alright, thank you for taking the time to speak with us.
Aodhan Murphy: Yeah….
Olivia Hartstrong: Well there you have it folks. Our top player in the league with a lot to prove and with a great weight on his shoulders. Perhaps we will get another interview with Aodhan Murphy in the future to discuss the possible sibling rivalry of his late brother, Fallon Murphy, and hopefully soon we will get an exclusive interview from the general manager of the Portland Roses in due time.

Helga "The Horrible" Finally Speaks

Helga "The Horrible" Karlson for years has often kept silent to the media, however FSPN was able to recently talk with her at the Gateway Forum in St. Louis, MO following Team Sweden's 5-2 Victory over Canada Red in the FHL World Tournament.
Van Weezer: May I first say thank you for sharing your time with us and get to our first question which I'm sure many have wondered: despite being the 2011 preseason MVP and one of the biggest stars on the Tundra, is there any particular reason you've been staying silent all these years?
Karlson: I just tend to be camera shy, prior to playing in the FHL I always had a hard time doing interviews back home in Stockholm. It's always easier for me to conjure up courage when you have a pack of teammates and opponents than when alone.
Van Weezer: I see, I also noticed tonight, like earlier this past season, that you seem to be getting hurt a lot more frequently than most players. Tonight it was in your neck, but I noticed your tail has taken some damage throughout your career as well, any idea why that is?
Karlson: It might be the same reason I haven't seen many other females in this league. I think some of the players are just taking the term "chase some tail" a little too literally. They should know I do have a mate off the ice though, so I'm not availible!
Van Weezer: This season should change as far as the female presence goes, as several women have entered this year's draft. Do you have any tips for the aspiring female rookies?
Karlson: Yes, my main one is always watch your tail. My second one is, unless you're looking to date a teammate or coach, put your sports bra on at home or in the hotel room before you change at the arena. I made the mistake of not doing that once and the embarrassment caused me to have a horrible night on the ice!
Van Weezer: That sounds like words to live by. Now I've noticed that so far team Sweden has been playing very solid with 3 Tundra members on the squad including yourself. Do you believe that the connection you 3 have as regular season teammates is playing a factor in this?
Karlson: Absolutely! Bjorn (Sandell) and I have been great friends as well as teammates for a few years now and while Hal (Sunderson) may only have one season in the books, he's quickly learned to how to work with us on defense. We not only play and practice together, but can often be seen hitting the bars together after the games. They don't call the Tundra the "Swedish Invasion" for nothing!
Van Weezer: Okay, I got one final question before I let you go party with your teammates: How did you get your nickname of "Helga the Horrible," when you are certainly not a "horrible" player?
Karlson: I think it's my blonde pig tails. I've had them since I was a pup and never plan to cut them off. Many other furs say that when I put a helmet on, they make me look like a Viking wife like in the comic strip "Hagar the Horrible."
Van Weezer: Seems to make sense, well I thank you for your time Mrs. Karlson and wish you the best of luck in this tournament, hope the injury heals soon.
Karlson: Thank you.

Marty Walnut: "Either the team shapes up, or I ship out!"

Long-time veteran Marty Walnut, often known as "The Nutcracker" for his long history of brutal and ruthless play on the ice, has told the media and Green Bay Tundra General Manager Maynard Von Schnauzer that if the Tundra don't shape up soon, he wants to ship out. An irate Walnut has said this in the post-game press conference following their recent loss to the Bridgeport Bandicoots:
"I originally was okay with Maynard getting rid of Manny LeLis, but now his decision has come to bite us in the (censored)! Many of us in the locker room are starting to think that crazy Canuck must've put a hex on us as he left! We were looking solid in the pre-season and opening day, but since then we've looked like (censored)! Even our powerful goalie Mark Bell and our beloved Captain Bjorn Sandell are looking like (censored) out there! I'm giving Maynard and the team until the All-Star Break to break this curse, trade me for someone who can, or they can expect my resignation from the team and possibly retirement from the FHL! Either the team shapes up, or I ship out!"
The FHL has subsequently fined Walnut $5,000 following the interview for his use of profanity and the Tundra added $2,000 to the fine. Coach Rolph Panacek had this to say about Walnut:
"I've gotten to know Marty for several years and he has changed a lot this year. He is definitely not the fox squirrel that he used to be! His sluggish performance this year has left me reluctant to start him to tell you the truth. If he leaves the team, I can't say he'll be missed that much. Other than that, he's telling us that we need to shape up, well he'll need to do the same if he wants to see playing time!"

The Ft. Meade Gazette reports that The Dakota Bikers announced today that their General Manager Girb Schmidt has been released. Details of the separation or any news of a replacement were not available at press time.
Still no word from FBA commissioner Sterne Davids on the penalty for Julio Onca's actions in last night's game between the Albany Alphas and Tennessee Typhoons. Last night during a 4th Quarter timeout,
Onca clawed teammate Lance Wildfyre and was ejected from the game. Wildfyre received many stitches and is expected to miss 10 games.
This is Onca's 3rd time clawing another player. The first time was to Buck Hopper of the Stanislaus Thrust in 2007. The second time was to John Stoat, then of the Spokane Rapids, in 2010.
