Vincent Van Gogh
Posted 7 years agoGreat work doesn’t come out of a vacuum.
No one succeeds alone.
During his early 20s Van Gogh had many occupations then at 27 he taught himself how to draw and to paint. With no formal training created an enormous body of work. Through sheer stubbornness. Today he is remembered for his creativity and intensity.
But you may not know that he wasn’t a lone painter. He had help. His younger brother, Theo, was his biggest advocate. He supported Vincent and encouraged him when times were tough and they often were.
In Paris, Vincent met The French Impressionists who helped him improve his sloppiness and learned. He eventually joined them and thru Theo’s connections formed The Painters of the Petite Boulevard.
Van Gogh was not an island. He was part of a rag tag group of misfits who banded together.
Thriving artists seek out places art is made and formed their own networks of advocates and fellow creatives.
A starving artist tries to work alone and tries to make art in a vacuum.
Be a thriving artist.

Angel has been drawing since they could pick up a pencil and even got in trouble for drawing on the walls in their Pre-K classroom's wall!
I adore Angel’s character designs. They are bright eyed and cheerful and professional looking. Angel is influenced by cartoons and by traditional painters.

Featured Writer Threetails
Posted 7 years agothis week we showcase the published writer:
threetails
Threetails gathers inspiration from personal experiences as well as from various philosophy including existentialism, Buddhism, and Gnosticism. “The Linen Butterfly” takes place in a simulated medieval world. Threetails explores themes of self discovery, anxiety, dystopia, and consequences of choice.
“We might think of freedom as something really exciting and joyous but when you get down to it, freedom is a terrifying thing because it means we're just as free to destroy ourselves as we are to stay alive. You can't escape it either; it catches up to you. Choosing not to participate in life is still a choice.” -Threetails

Creative Showcase
Posted 7 years agoThis is a weekly showcase of my artist friends:
Vous voilà! Je montre mon ami artiste.
Today I am introducing Natalya.
Natalya has been writing since very young, however, receiving her own computer was a liberating point in her writing in her teens.
Natalya's story takes place in a fictional turn of the century Russia where there is a divided classes between Urals and Russlanders. Felix is the main character who undergoes a dramatic change of philosophy. The story is exciting and deep. Please give it a read.
