How is everyone coping? Hope you are all keeping as safe as you can. So, what is everyone doing during the lockdown? I'm still having to do work for university as we are now doing distance learning. Not the most fun aspect as the home can be super distracting to get any work done but I'm managing. I'm trying to do at least 7 hours of uni work a day to make sure I'm able to catch up while I take the rest of the time to do my artwork! Hope you have been enjoying my updates! I have written down silly things between my hubby, Lothar, and I because some puns and things are being said and let me tell you, some of you will enjoy, others will suffer like I am.
Thanks to the free time I'm finding myself, I will be continuing on some drawings and commissions while we are in lockdown.
I have finished a few, which have now been uploaded, and in between work I will be drawing some silly ones.
Now requests are somewhat open
As I mentioned, requests are open but there are conditions are in play. I will be taking ideas that you have and making silly little one-offs derpy exaggerated images. Now, this isn't one of that journal that has slots open and anyone can get them; this one is a touch different. Due to time differences and because I am working from home (university; not a paid job, lots of research and things to do) so I can't take as many requests so what will happen is that you will comment or send me a note if that makes you more comfortable an idea you have! If I choose the idea, you will be notified and I will ask for character references; but be warned if they are derpified, chances are they will look crazy! The ideas can be as silly or mundane as you like it to be! I promise if I like it I will make it mental. So just to make sure you know what you are looking at:
** They will be derp
** They will be flatly coloured sketches
**They must include Raye in this
**It is NOT first come first serve. By that I mean, as I mentioned in my previous journal, what you need to do is comment what you would like to see derpy wise and yes you can add your OC (at max 2 OCs because even though we were in lockdown I'm still having to submit papers and work to my university)
** Because of all the time differences everyone has it wouldn't be fair to make this first-come-first-serve, so what you will do is describe a scenario with your OC and if I like that scenario yours would be chosen and you will be contacted for any references
** Some funny ideas were mentioned in my previous journal, however, I'll no longer be doing them. Our community saw 3 COVID-19 deaths, one of the people I loosely knew through cosplay and con interactions, so I no longer find the Raye fighting the virus mentions to be in good taste, especially while our community is now reeling from these deaths. So, with respect, anything COVID-19 related will not be used in these scenarios
I feel that doing it this way allows people who may not be on daily as well as different timezones a chance to get a silly drawing to boost spirits. I have a few ideas I may be doing next. :3

I may approach the trade as I did with the requests and do by the idea so I could give a chance for people who are unable to get the first-come-first-serve journal. Also, there are many amazing people out there working tirelessly either in the medical field, supermarkets, as cleaners and such keeping us safe. They will be very busy during this pandemic and I want to give them the opportunity to also be able to push their ideas through

COVID-19: Updates, lockdown /commisisons/trades/requests

As some of you may be aware, the UK has gone into lockdown. The universities are expecting us to still submit, but we were given a blanket extension. This means, I can take my time on doing research but in between this research I will be drawing!
I will be thinking about opening commissions to help me during this time, but also give people the opportunity to also do some low-grade trades (meaning not too much detail) to get some motivation up.
I also am thinking of drawing my character in derps. What do you think? What if, for requests, if you have a silly idea with my character and yours, you could possibly get it drawn? Rather than being a first come first serve basis (as this is not really fair for everyone due to timezones), I could rather have a silly derpy idea with my character and yours and if I like it and it is silly enough I could draw it.

I'm happy to take advice. I haven't open any of these yet but I will post a journal about it in the near future! That way people are motivated!

Aside from his, I'm okay. I've been having some breathing problems, but not because of the virus or symptoms of it. I'm asthmatic and the dramatic changes in weather do not bode well for me. I'm a bit on edge because of this.
Otherwise I'm doing fine. Keeping up with uni work and since I don't have to travel daily anymore I have ten hours a week of free time which is what I'll be dedicating for drawing now.

COVID-19: Updates from me, my life, and some positivity

I’m out of my Uni hibernation to see what’s been going on here. As some of you are familiar with the schedule for university, I’m very busy between September and June, where then I appear for a rabid session of drawings for the summer, to then go back into hiding while I work on uni.
This is no longer the routine as the COVID-19 virus has disrupted my school.
You see, my lovelies, to keep people safe they suspended all lectures, with the idea that we work from home. I’m not going to lie, as I don’t have to spend about 1.5 to 2 hrs traveling back and forth, this does actually free up a lot of time for me. We are requiring to work from home with no real changes to the deadlines. The biggest difference, though, is that the University is open for stuff like the library and such, which is great. So far, I mean. I don’t know if they will actually go into lockdown but they have suspended group sessions.
This virus has disrupted a lot of people’s lives, this community included. For me? I am in the vulnerable high-risk group. Some of you may have read my previous journals about my immunity issues, but I am also asthmatic. The recommendation is 12 weeks self-isolation which I just don’t think it’s doable between going to doctors appointment and vet appointments.
Because of the self isolation (where I can) and the school lockdown, to keep myself busy I will be posting more.
I know I’m not alone.
If you need to chat or want to message me, I’m more than happy to reply now that I have the time.
I will be setting up a discord soon once I figure out how to work it.
We gotta help each other during this! Let’s try to keep each other spirit’s up!

Not dead - Commissions and little bit of a blog-like upda...
Posted 6 years agoHowdy, Just FYI I haven't disappeared again! Ain't nothing to worry about! I have been working on private commissions which means I can't post them online or anywhere for that matter.
I'm a big supporter of people who want to get private commissions. I was told that not many artists would do this as it limits their posting. And this, I can understand. I've done a few private ones that I love how it came out and I'm so happy with it but can't show it and that can be a bummer. However, I respect people's decisions as long as it falls within the outlines of my comfort as well.
Because of my ability to be flexible with this, I find myself taking on a lot of private commissions and not a lot of posting happens. And for that, I do apologize, but I'll be happy to let you know that a comic commission is coming to a close so that will be posted very soon!!
In the meantime, who misses the derp things I did? What would you like to see me derp?

Posted 6 years agoI'm having a bit of an issue already with patreon and it was only a few hours in!
Due to my status as a US citizen but not being a resident they're is a whole issue regarding the fact that I haven't stepped in US soil for nearly a decade and they still want me to pay US taxes....but I don't live there nor have I paid US taxes now in nearly a decade.
Until I sort this out, it may be an idea to hold off on becoming a patron because, and I mean this very catty (hurr) but their customer service sucks. I keep getting copy and paste shit from them and I'm like BRUH I'm not a UK citizen Iam a permanent resident and then I get copy and pasted shit for US citizen and how to fill out for my state and I'm like BRUH NO
So until this gets sorted maybe I'll take down the links until I've got it sorted out

Hope you are all having a wonderful summer. As per usual in the UK our lovely summer consists of overcast skies and a surprising amount of humidity haha! I just wanted to drop this here as some people love my content but cannot afford commission but still want to support what I do. The Ko-Fi page is going to be heavily for sewing costumes and stuff with the added art of course. I am even thinking about making some custom made bags with people's characters for sale once I get the amount I need to get an embroidery machine.
I have a lot of goals and ideas so any support I can get will be greatly appreciated.

Unintentional hiatus but I will be getting surgery
Posted 7 years agoI just want to apologise to everyone on my watchlist because I keep disappearing for the last couple of years. But I can assure you this isn't intentional. I have been battling with my health for a long time and I don't think I've mentioned what it was and unless you were a very close friend or we talked quite regularly. I have endometriosis but I also have these non cancerous tumours called fibroids.
Now at the moment they are growing incredibly out of control as I have five and a cluster of few growing as well. The largest one I have is about 9 to 12 cm and the smallest I have is about 4 centimetres which means I've been having a lot of pain every day of my life for the last 3 years. No matter what they were resistant to treatment and even grow while in treatment in while I went through menopause. The menopause was medically induced and did nothing to help me. I am one of the few extreme cases of this and because of this tomorrow at 10 a.m. I'm going into the hospital to get a hysterectomy.
During my health battles they did find suspicious cells which they biopsy twice and both came back negative however because my cervix keeps having these suspicious cells they're also taking that. I am losing most of my bits accept my ovaries which they are keeping due to the fact that im only in my early 30s. This was obviously not the easiest choice to me by the fact that is I am miserable and in pain every day, I'm also taking oxycontin nearly every day just to get the pain to subside and nothing helps me in the long run. This has been going on for a long time but it was only in the last 3 years that it has become so bad that I needed immediate intervention when I appreciate everyone's Patience on my haphazard posting this was probably the scariest one I've ever posted and possibly the most personal because if they had intervened sooner and if they taking my pain seriously 10 years ago I would not be here today but that is beside the point. I want to raise awareness because this is a common ailment that is left on notice for a long time because nobody takes the pain seriously at times even saying they were just exaggerating.
But this isn't about me taking a stand for now but to let you know the people who have been loyal and the people who have been there for me that the end is near and that I do see a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm going to get out of this nightmare and it's just going to be a little while longer and I hope you guys understand xxi hopefully tomorrow I will post that the surgery was a success! I know it's not nice to talk about but I'm getting a hysterectomy due to tumours that were found. Now, they aren't cancerous now but they are multiplying and growing out of control and I'm on a mixture of opiates to control the pain and I'm not having a quality of life. This choice was not an easy one but it will be the best one due to a viriety of factors that are not very pleseant to discuss. Few people in my close circle group on here know and I appreciate their support. But thankfully this is almost over and I just need the surgery done and over with!

I’ll be posting again a lot later than I had hoped but there have been some hiccups along the way. Sadly I was hospitalized and without getting into too much detail I will be getting surgery soon.
I’ve also freely talked about my mental Health as well. OCD is no joke. And it’s one of the reasons it took me away from my love; drawing. My physical ailments are not helping my mental health front but I’m on anti-depressants and on pain medication to help and it seems to be helping.
Though while I’m able to do it I decided to draw again.
I’ll be drawing when I can and possibly a bit more while I recover.
Sadly, I am very out of practice so it’s taking me long to get it all sorted. But you will see me again :)

With this welcome back bit, I decided why not make a 10 facts you probably didn’t know about Raye (my character):
1) In canon, she is a thief for hire though has a different "day job" for "legitimate" purposes
2) Raye is known to do impulsive, act-now-think-later actions that sometimes works in her favor, sometimes it does not.
3) Raye has a strict “No Kill” policy, unlike Lothar Hex, but has in the past killed under extreme circumstances.
4) Raye’s original hair color is black. She dyes it red. Every now and again she lets her hair grow and cuts off the dyed, damage hair. This has happened once in a previous story line. Her hair grows fairly quickly so she is not bothered by it. Lothar prefers her hair black. She has had it 3 different colors in the past but stuck with red for many years.
5) My irl good friend Christina and I have created over 300 pages of comics as well as over 600 pages of fanfic using our characters. Christina the bat was originally Christina the Koala, but after Sonic Adventure 2 came out she became a bat due to loving Rouge’s design. That said, those fan fics and comics were created on an older computer which died and only a few of these items exist now. In both Raye’s and Chris’ timeline they also deal with the supernatural, something Raye is familiar with but again tight lipped about it.
6) Due to me creating Raye when I was about 13/14 yrs old, she was ultimately a Mary Sue. Her back story consisted of her being a princess in a village that saw incredibly little contact from the outside world (the Kings and Queens were only allowed to talk to “outsiders”) She was set to be married by 18 so by 15 she was courted by a suitor and if it worked out she was to marry him by 18. The village consisted of 4 kingdoms each having their own leadership. However, a scorned individual who was exiled from the village for owning books of dark magic gathered up an army by promising lies and making them believe with a few dark magic tricks and invaded the kingdoms and killed most people there. Raye, as far as she knew, was the only surviving royal member but as the story progressed she was met by a couple of people in the royalty that have survived. They had asked her to complete the kingdoms by coming back but has declined due to “having her heart filled with too much darkness” so instead she has found a successor to take her place—a cousin she later found to be alive. She visits her newly reconstructed home as people have come back to bury their long dead but her cousin feels as she is the rightful owner of the seat and always takes a step down when she returns. Something Raye truly hates but accepts as she becomes an ambassador between her and the “outsiders” to hopefully build trusts between the two so the gap closes and the Kingdoms can be a part of the rest of the world. Both her parents have been found dead, her brothers were killed in front of her, but her youngest brother’s body has yet to be found and is declared “Missing”. As... you can imagine this story has long, long since then been scrapped. This is no longer relevant but I thought it's a very interesting little tidbit to share how much her story has changed since I was a young teen :)

Posted 8 years agoAs time approaches for me to start coming back here in full swing, I thought it would be best to know what will change.
Firstly, I will be removing my Art Blog. I didn't update at the best of times and instead I will be planning to use my scraps for any WIPs I have going on. This will make things easier for me as I would feel pressured keeping up with something I wasn't really inclined to keep up with.
It will stay up for now as there isn't that many things in there, so if there are any WIPs you want to take a look at before I close it down, feel free to look at here http://addicted-to-insanity.blogspot.co.uk/ though warning, you probably won't find much. I think there are like twenty posts. Srsly.
Alternatively, I may consider tumblr blog if and when I become highly active in the community again.
Another thing I will be getting rid of is Twitter. Again, I don't update it enough to justify having it.
Due to my interests changing, I will have a blog open for other stuff that may or may not be related to the furry fandom, would any of you be interested in seeing it? Just a thought. I have rekindle my love for sewing and design, anyone interested in that?
Due to illness, I'm tightening up requests until such a time I feel like I'm well enough to take requests. I'm limiting requests either to very close friends, or when I offer a request.
Same goes with trades. Due to health problems and changes in life I am limiting trades as well. Instead, though to close friends, I'll go by a trade by trade basis. Meaning I'll look into each trade idea individually and decide whether or not I'm able to do said trade at that point in time. This does not mean I'm open to trades at the moment. Both trades and requests are closed at the moment.
This is also equally true with commissions. Once I come back in full force, commissions will be strictly on a case by case basis until such time as I'm able to fully concentrate on them. Three years is a long time time to be away and I've spent most of that tme and longer being very ill. But as we now found out what was causing it I'm making changes in my life that will allow me to come back to doing what I enjoy.
Another thing that may also upset some people is that I will not be returning to Skype once I come back in full swing on FA. I will not delete my skype SN or anything in case in the future i either change my mind (which is possibe but I am highly doubting it) I have gotten many notes about this and after some thought I've choose not to use this medium. There are many reasons to this but to highlight a few:
1) It's too distracting and considering the amount of people I have on it, it has in the past kept me far too distracted.
2) people have given me far too much abuse for not answering quick enough regardless of ample warning that I am working at the time.
3) This also extends to people who have called me a slut (lol wut) for not video skyping with them. Sometimes after telling them "no" after they ask me to do sexual things in front of the camera.
While number 3 was a rare occurrence, still, ain't nobody got time for that. However, please bear in mind that the reason for this is not solely because of abuse or people asking for sexual favors. It really does boil down to it being too distracting for someone so easily distracted.
I'll be keeping my DeviantArt and I'll be posting there as well. I would like to start making photoshop brushes again and let them be free to use :)
I am, however, considering removing my weasyl account as I'm not using it as much as usual, however, I haven't decided on that yet. In a couple weeks' time I'll be reorganizing my front page bio. In the meantime if you are interested seeing the wips and posts I've done on my artblog/twitter this will be the best time to see it :)

Posted 9 years agoIt's been a while since I've been here. And while in part what I have written a year ago has a lot to do with it, this year I've been given even more incredible obstacles. I don't wish to put my entire health history on here, if you're interested to know the ins and outs feel free to contact me and I'll be more than happy to talk about it in private. But all in all, this year I've been hit with several very serious health issues that for a while I could barely leave the bed.
After months of appointment, treatments, I feel like I finally got to a place where I'm vaguely human now!
That said, I miss this community so much. And I'm sorry that all these things kept me from being here for you. But you'll be happy to know after some treatment I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel and there may be drawings coming your way! Who knows, maybe very soon I can return to your regularly scheduled derp.

Posted 13 years agoThank you for all the watches and favs. I wish I had the time to sit down and thank you all individually, but I work retail and that doesn't leave me with a lot of time this holiday. I pretty much work every day and get a day off, but that's only temporarily. I'm planning on making a longer journal tomorrow and give you guys a proper update!

Two years married
Posted 13 years agoToday marks me and 
lotharhex 's two year wedding anniversary. And despite having to go to work, it was a wonderful day. However, a lot of things did get in the way of making it the perfect day, like having to do paperwork for the Indefinite Leave to remain (which has taken many hours and many hours of waiting on the phone for clarification) and over 100 pages of proof of us living together, finances, and other crap, we finally are in the final stages of having that sent off, but overall it was a good day. Plus, I did get to wear a new dress I got and love.

Posted 13 years agoFor my permanent residency in the UK, I have to take a "Life in the UK" test bit first before I apply for permanent residency. It cost me £50 to book the test. If I fail this test, I can arrange for another one, but it will be another £50. I know people who failed it three, to four times. I was told not to worry if I didn't pass first time around, but as you can imagine, I AM! My test is on Wednesday. Wish me luck! I dun want to pay that much again D:

Posted 14 years agoThanks for the comments, watches, and Favorites. I haven't been able to find the time to thank you guys all but I'll get around to it sometime this week, I promise :)
Been a bit busy since now i'm working two jobs. I was juggling three including the volunteer but I'm going to have a word with them saying that for the meantime I can't stop in to work at the volunteer. I have too much on my plate and if I volunteer on top of that, I'll just wear myself out. But the retail job is just temporary (the second one I got, as a server/barmaid is permanent) so maybe once my contract is over with them i'll pick it up again.
I'm exhausted XD;

I would like to address them here since it will save me replying individually which after the last week I got a loooooooooooooooooooooot of attention due to my work appearing on a few websites. Which, awesome, thanks guys ;) btw.
As for uploading to other websites, such as Rule34, Lulz.net, or e621.net, and various others, I generally don’t oppose as long as my signature is not removed, and that I am given proper credit. Generally I would like to be asked permission first, but I also understand that this won’t always be the case, so as long as I’m given proper credit, my signature not being removed, and if maybe give me a link black to my main acount, I generally won’t fuss.
I would also like to mention that I do not post outside a few websites, so if you come across anyone claiming to be me on any of these websites, it’s untrue. Generally on my journal header and on profile page, I have the websites I either frequent, or at least have an account in.

Another question that comes to a few people is my character’s name, which was named after me. So here’s a brief history of my character and name.
Raye is actually my nickname which was given to me from when I was 12 years old. I made friends with someone who came from China, and she was at that point struggling with English. My name was particularly too hard for her to pronounce and when she asked me if I had a nickname I go by to make it easier for her, I was about to say Rachel (since that’s the English version of my name) But, in truth, I hate going by Rachel (at that point every other girl in my class was named Rachel, it was infuriating, and I didn’t, and still don’t particularly go by my own name and I usually go by my nickname often. Even at the job I have, it’s Raye) so I said the first syllable and dragged it out, which sounded like Ray. She liked it because it was easy for her to pronounce, I liked it because it was a name that I feel better suited me, and we added the E at the end to make it more feminine looking name, and VIOLA! That’s when I got my nickname.
Raye Matthews was created a year or two later. I got a few people interested in helping me write and draw a comic, which I have the originals in the US in my parents' house, and in the conceptual stage, we created our anthro characters. We really concentrated on which animals we wanted, and how they’d look like, drawing them out first and then figuring out their color schemes later. But for a long while we couldn’t think of the names, so each character created we gave them our first names as a place holder. We spent months developing our characters, and we even had ‘new names’ picked out after a couple months, but by that time, we got so used to calling our characters by our names that any other names we picked out just never seemed to fit properly.
So the characters we created kept our first names since by that time it just stuck. We never bothered giving last names since at that point we were 14 and just wanted a fun thing to do, so we never gave it much thought. Around the time I turned 16/17, since I really liked this OC, this is when I wrote her back story (giving her a full name officially), and wrote down a story idea, which I have it all set up and ready to draw it out, but it’s going to have to wait until I get my own computer and get more steady access to the computer drawing programs, which, considering the new year, it may happen since a few places I asked are looking for people in the new year for employment so *crosses fingers* The current job I have now currently has not enough hours available, but we’ll see what the future has in store :)
But I digress, the reason I thought I’d mention this since a few asked about it, I thought it was best I wrote a journal about it :)
As far as my irl projects go, I got some of them done, but now I need to start focusing on jewellery making for a little while. Just as a hobby.
