Hi lovely watchers, just a heads up I'm going to become more active on here again (no, really I am)!

I'll have to upload a bunch of stuff so I'm really sorry for the incoming spam ahaha.

For a while I've just been casually posting art on my twitter @ kunzaikitfox (collected together on @ artbykunzai ) but it's time I took my galleries seriously again, especially because I'm focusing on commissions for income now. I love doing what I do, making people happy through my art and seeing my skills develop.

In past years I actually lost a significant amount of skill, through a period of poor physical and mental health made worse by external circumstances. With that I lost much of my confidence. I'm in a much better place now in all regards. I've been building up my art again and I can't even begin to describe how amazing it feels to be back on track. I don't know if anyone reading this has experienced a similar skill loss but know that with persistence you should regain it and eventually exceed where you were before. And I'd love to hear from you in the comments!

As I'm writing this I'm possibly half delirious with the flu so sorry about that! XD

So the thing is, I turn 30 on the 23rd of May. Terrifying, but I really need to celebrate the fact I survived this long.

On a serious note, I've always had some issues with my heart, and I even remember saying when I was a kid "I'm not going to live past 30." Well, at 29 I'm taking beta blockers, and they're helping. :)
Not to be even more of a downer, but I've been put through some horrible shit in my life that has come close to ending me, and it's frankly incredible that I'm able to be the person I am today with that sort of background. Probably most of my problems and the obstacles I face are due to chronic post traumatic stress. I don't talk about this kind of thing lightly and I don't usually give myself nearly enough credit for getting through it all more or less intact, but I guess it's finally sinking in. I've just made myself cry so I'm gonna shut up and quit feeling sorry for myself. I'm just glad to be alive.


I much, much prefer to spread joy so I've always shown a happy-go-lucky, goofy, humourous and kind face to the world, even if that's not the full story of who I am or what I'm feeling. Does that make me two faced? It feels more like being overly cautious. I suppose I fear rejection or worse for any amount of negativity, so I have a bad habit of bottling up and not reaching out to friends.. but I think that's true of many people.

I... think that's the most personal stuff I've said semi-publicly in years, but I just feel like there's no reason to hide as much as I do, and I would want my friends to know me better; they deserve that.

In fact hell, three years ago after I finished University I had zero friends in my life, as it seemed that everyone I knew had moved on. I truly have the furry fandom to thank for all the wonderful, kind and generous people I now know. :)



So, anyway... I'm starting to panic because my birthday's just over a month away and I still don't know what I'm doing. xD Add to that all the things you tend to say you'll do when you turn 30 and well, most of them require money I simply don't have. I suppose I want to learn to drive, and get a tattoo. :P
I'm even having ridiculous dreams where I've failed to do anything and my 30th gets completely overlooked and I feel like a total loser. Hahaaaa ^^;


Now... Confuzzled happens just after my birthday this year, and a lot of you lovelies will be there. It's expensive and I can't imagine many people wanting to go to any sort of party I throw just before it, not that I've ever thrown a party for myself in my entire life. xD I can't afford to stay for the duration of the convention, but if I attended for one day is there any chance I could get some of you peeps together for a mini celebration? c:

...HAI!

It's time for my yearly "I STILL EXIST" post! It took me thiiiiiiis long to find the journal submission feature on the new interface. ;P

Yeah so life keeps happening at breakneck speed, I'm a scatterbrain and I don't tend to keep up with multiple platforms very easily. Sorry I haven't been able to read all your journals and such. And I have no idea what I'm going to do with the 2600 or so submissions from you guys.. *puts them in a box for now*

What to update on?

Well, myself and nineleaves have officially been together for one year now :) We are happy and disgustingly cute together! ^-^ I think I'll upload some of my drawings of us as celebration. :)

After a couple of pretty dark years during and immediately after University, my life and health have improved fairly dramatically I'd say, and things are moving forward all the time. A major part of that was finding my friends in the fandom and I feel so lucky to know so many awesome people in my life now. <3

Confuzzled 2015 was awesomeeee. I had a lovely birthday there and felt much less terrified at my 2nd convention. The best thing is not only spending time with friends, but also getting to meet and chat to a variety of people you probably wouldn't have otherwise known. ^.^

This year I've been working at the council's Fostering department doing admin jobs. I started off covering one person's maternity and within a month I was also covering a recent leaver's high priority tasks, so that's been really busy and at times stressful, but despite that it's a nice workplace and the people immediately around me are quite lovely, including my manager. I have my first review with her on Thursday, so wish me luck with that!

It also looks like a house move may be on the horizon. This is my ninth home (nine at Nine's!) so I can't wait to see what the tenth has in store...

I've FINALLY retired my nine year old (there's that number again!!) Wacom Intuos 3 and upgraded for a lovely lovely Cintiq 13HD. I think it is making sketching digitally a LOT quicker and easier for me already by removing the extra coordination layer of hand to tablet, eye to screen devices. It really is like drawing on a sketchbook but with all the digital features *.*

On current health stuff, I'm still getting to grips with my apparent dairy allergy which just seems to be getting worse and worse and quite alarmingly so. I can't even have a little bit of milk-based ingredient in a food or drink without getting horribly ill, and the fact it mainly affects my heart/blood pressure is frightening to say the least. I see an immunologist in September (I know, ages away) so I hope to get some answers then. At least I now live with someone lactose intolerant, so there's generally nothing dangerous in the house to tempt me. If you ever eat pizza around me please don't offer me any or I will just cry. Wehhh! ;.;

I'm excited to be getting a new phone soon. I was on a very long contract which has just ended. My original Sony phone broke repeatedly, and then fatally last year. They couldn't fix/replace it because I didn't get it directly through the provider, so I've been using a beat up and slow old Samsung from CEX ._. Time for a new shiney, now to choose it!

Kunzai

• Where did the name of your fursona come from?
There's a lavender coloured crystal called kunzite which inspired the name.

• What species is your fursona and why did you choose that species?
Kit fox - I've always loved foxes, and I love deserts, with a special interest in the Western USA/Mexican deserts where kit foxes live.. kit foxes are dinky and funny little things so it suits me :P

• What color is your fursona and why?
A lavenderish purple and golden yellow (plus cream). I love the way those colours compliment each other.

• What is your fursona's personality and how does this compare to your RL personality?
She's skittish, eccentric, silly, scatterbrained, friendly and sweet.. *coughs* while there is a lot more to me than that, it's a facet of myself that's most visibly projected. I guess she'll always be a lot more naiive compared to my real self.

• What is one item your fursona owns that is significant to you in RL?
So, anthro Kunzai I guess, hmm.. possibly her Phoenix necklace based on my real one.

• What is one thing you think you would say to your fursona if you could meet?
*shimmers into view and puts on her best Galadriel voice* "Even the smallest kit fox can change the course of the future."

• How has your fursona changed over the years?
I actually first used the name for a male wolf when I joined an avatar chat.. but Kunzai took shape somewhat independently. At first she was a generic fox of fully saturated purple and yellow. When I learned about the desert foxes of America, she first went through a swift fox phase before settling on kit fox. Her colours desaturated a little and the markings arranged to resemble the grey, tan and cream markings of kit foxes, oh and the ears.. they just kept growing.. o.o

• How long have you had this fursona?
*thinks* ... thirteen years. Fuuuu... <____>

• Would you like to be more like your fursona?
While life would be a lot simpler if I were really a feral kit fox, just foraging and derping about all day long (erm, though I have lived like that a fair bit this Summer <.<;)
... I would not want to be more like Kunzai. She represents a lot of my weaknesses and is honestly closer to a more juvenile version of myself that I have of course outgrown. But she'll always be a big part of me, and a reminder of how important it is to lighten up and appreciate all the little fun things in life.

After 8+ years of not eating meat (other than fish, technically I was a pescetarian), I am now omnivorous again.

The main reason was that I have had to seriously reduce my intake of dairy due to some kind of intolerance that has been getting worse and was making me very ill every time I had some in quantity (like cheesey pizza, as much as I love it, was death to me ;-; ). Without dairy OR meat I'd be missing out on a lot of essential nutrients that are difficult to get properly through a vegetarian diet and I don't want to rely on supplements.

I also suspect I have several mild deficiencies in any case, and I would like my health back as much as possible. I'm hoping I won't feel weak and cold and hungry all the time, be able to think more clearly and have reduced levels of anxiety. That would be amazing.

I hope people can appreciate what a huge step it has been for me to eat meat again after so long, adding that my abstaining was not because of ethical reasons but mostly pure squeamishness that I have now tried very hard to extinguish (and largely succeeded, in a very short time). Go me. :)

Last weekend I went to Lincoln for the first time, did the furmeet/yearly BBQ party - I met loads of awesome people, did the Lincoln hill walk (pfft it was nothing, I lived up a big hill for years), petted some pygmy goats, ate ice cream, cooked a veggie BBQ, and maybe accidentally had a bit much to drink... ^^;

The following day the weather was an absolute wash out so there was no way Nine and me were motorbiking very far. Instead we were invited to stay at Dillon's, who was a perfect host and made us feel most welcome. It was a really good day overall. ^.^

Weather was nicer on Monday so we wandered around Lincoln a bit before motoring back. Was a brilliant weekend, though I seem to have caught a cold now. Oh well, on with commissions I go - this time I really will be uploading art soon. ;P

Well... it has certainly been a rollercoaster ride in recent times.

I've been away from galleries and such for a bit because I've been overhauling my life and travelling about a little, catching up with old friends.

I finally found the courage to leave a failed relationship, one that had lasted for ten years. That's all of my adult life. I'm now in the process of losing my home and need to sell/throw out a lot of the things I own. And.. I won't be taking my dog Layla with me. That was my decision, but still... ;-;

I'm going to be going back and forth between this house and family/friends' places. I feel so lucky that I know so many good people now who are helping me through this difficult time (many of them I met through this community). And my family, who I haven't always been close with, is coming through for me as well.

I was pretty stressed out recently and hadn't been able to sleep. My heart felt weird for several days in a row, then one night I almost collapsed and had to call an ambulance in case it was something really serious. They did an ECG at my house and tutted over it wondering if I'd had some kind of heart attack, so they drove me to hospital for another one. It turned out my heart was healthy enough, but my blood pressure was through the roof due to anxiety and stress.

I'm a lot better now. I had a break from this house, have been sleeping away the exhaustion a bit and feel almost back to normal.

And.....

So, back from mine and  koumo's first ever convention, Confuzzled 2014!

In short I enjoyed the experience, found it entertaining and quite inspiring, and of course hanging out with some really great people was fantastic, though I struggled with anxiety quite a bit - to be expected I suppose!


Soon after I arrived on my birthday (wearing a huge badge), my day was made by  swandog, who I was already looking forward to meeting at the dealer's den, wishing me a happy birthday before I even realised it was she. So what a lovely start to the con! <3

Sat down in the lounge and within a short time I had a few awesome Leeds friends around such as  draconian12  wallymunster and  sterlingburd. These dudes in particular always made me and Koumo feel so welcome and looked after in such a big overwhelming place, and I'm super grateful! Always great hanging out with  raes_suits in between her shifts as crew (and once during). ^.^

 mithea invited a bunch of us to a fantastic room party which was definitely a highlight. I would love to get the FA of various folk I met from there, if anyone could help me out. There were some I tried to remember the names of and failed/couldn't spell, hah.

It was lovely to meet properly for the first time  tyth  nineleaves and  keenyfox!

Damnit I want to make so many suits now, haaaah.

Obtained a few pretty bits and bobs of art things at the den. I bought prints from  swandog and cute little badges/stickers from  miri  lapres and a few others. I think I'd really love to have a go at getting/sharing a table next time. There's loads of crafty things I'd love to offer.

Caught a couple of events too, which were variously informative/inspiring and entertaining. Though mostly it was nice just lazing around the bar areas with friends, and watching all the suiters acting about. ^.^

At the closing ceremony they announced next year's theme: Alice in Wonderland! And with such an early announcement everyone has the whole year to prepare - it's going to be amazing!!

I'm finally feeling inspired again, and ready to fight through my chronic art block! The needlework foxes were part of that. Doing a totally different form of art helped me to be creative without being blocked by the usual obstacles. And now I want to get back into drawing, in a big way. I'll be tooning, but also doing some more realism again. I'm going to aim to get in a mix of digital and traditional art practice.

This is all on the hobby side of my art, as I've been busy with work projects (2D animation and 3D sculpting) that I currently can't upload. However I've found that without a healthy dose of 'hobby art' in the mix, all work slows down and suffers in quality. Part of the artist's curse is if you don't enjoy the art you are making, it either comes out badly or not at all. So only by rekindling my enjoyment of the art process can I really make my work shine.

On a more personal note, the dark clouds definitely seem to be lifting. Literally, now that the long dark winter is finally over. Circumstances are improving, and I've been getting out and meeting some awesome new friends that I already love to bits. So expect to see their characters featuring in my gallery!

Thanks to absolutely anyone who took the time to read this. It means a lot to me that someone cares enough to do so, and I'm forever grateful to all the visitors, watchers, favouriters and commenters on my page - it just wouldn't be here without you. I'm afraid I am an insecure lil kit and I rely on your support, and I appreciate every single crumb of it.

A few of you will probably know at least some of what has been going on. I'm no stranger to difficult times like this, but it gets harder and harder to bounce back afterwards. I expect submissions will be slow for a bit, and of course already paid commissions have priority. But I need a little down time to recover so please bear with me.

FIrst, sorry if you noticed I deleted my last journal. I told you I annoy myself, ahaha ;-;

I am practicing at being a bit more out in the open. I tend to push myself too hard at times, but I know I need to be less afraid to express myself. I even just made a better bio that actually gives you a clue about the kind of person I am, heh. Well, it's a start.

I've now been to two Leeds mini meets and I'm really glad I did. I've met a lot of amazing, wonderful people already. I was at an awkward point in my life where nearly all my old friends had inevitably drifted away, so I really hope this has been a turning point.

I want to thank you profusely if you have reached out and talked to lil ol me, whether in person or online. It means a helluva lot, it really does. And I will do my best to reciprocate, but I'm sorry if ever I seem distant - most likely I'm just afraid that I'm butting in where not wanted. I'm always approachable myself, though. Even if I'm hiding. :}
