Life Update: new job, burn out, the dangerous cycle of shame
Posted 3 months agoTLDR; new part time job that came with a LOT of unexpected full time training, current queue is top priority, new commissions on hold until at least August if not longer.
I've been thinking about and tormenting myself over this journal post for the past few weeks. I have a horrible, horrible habit of dissocciating while stressed. It feels easier to ignore my problems when they start stressing me out, but in the end that always makes things worse exponentially. I want to apologize to everyone who has been waiting on me, but I am also really upset with myself and feel like apologies aren't enough. Sorry. >_<
I should have posted this journal weeks ago. I started a new job at the end of last month. I had to jump straight in to multiple weeks of full time training after being self employed (and sleeping in!) for the past two years... I told myself that I was going to still dedicate time to my commissions, especially after training was over and I was on my new part time schedule. But I didn't realize how utterly burnt out I was until I had what felt like a reasonable 'excuse' to put off drawing. The last year has been so hard. I underestimated how DRAINING relying on commissions for my entire income could be. Now that I have a new job with a consistent schedule and a guaranteed paycheck every two weeks, it's like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders...
The plan was to get as much done as possible before training started, then focus on what was supposed to be two weeks of training before jumping back into the projects I had taken on. But then training turned out to be three weeks... And then I was offered a promotion, so even MORE weeks of full time training... In the back of my head, my responsibilities to customers was looming. But each night when I was done with training, it was so easy to tell myself 'I worked hard today, I'm tired, I can do extra work tomorrow...'
Then training ended, my part time schedule started, and I told myself 'now, now I can get some projects done...' but the pull of procrastination was still a stuggle to avoid. I slowly began to realize that my last six months of commission work was not done in the healthiest way... I was desperate at times, needing -one more- commission to pay the bare necessities of my bills. I live alone, I have to two cats, rent is expensive, I ate a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches last year...
All these feel like excuses. Ugh. I'm still processing my thoughts on everything. I take 100% responsibility for making bad decisions. I let myself get overwhelmed and burnt out and didn't reach out to communicate with the other people it affected.
Now that I don't have to live off of commissions, I've slowly started to want to draw again. My top priority is finishing my current projects. Then I want to relax and spend some time doing some long needed personal art. When I open commissions again (which I do want to do, I genuinely LOVE creating art for you all!) it'll probably be a lot more unique, creative YCHs, projects that inspire me.
This rambling journal is disorganized and all over the place and probably more melodramatic than it needs to be.
I have updates for projects 90, 105, 106, and 107 coming today. I will also post a work schedule sometime tonight or tomorrow.
If you have any questions, words of encouragement, or frustrated rants, please feel free to send me a note!

Posted 5 months agoI have another hoard of deliveries and updates to send out! I apologize for any delay!
Lots of updates coming tomorrow!
Posted 6 months agoI had to get a minor medical procedure done and I've been feeling really bleh during the recovery time. I got a lot of drawing done but not a lot of typing and accidentally built up a back log of check ins. >_<;
Sorry for the delay! If your commission isn't on the list, it just means I'm still working towards the next update. You'll probably get an update next week!

February Schedule!
Posted 7 months agoSorry this is a bit late! The beginning of February went from awesome to hectic in one fell swoop. A quick note to anyone else in the US, if you rely on public programs or low income assistance to help pay your bills, make sure they haven't been affected by federal shenanigans. The best of luck to everyone out there.
Here’s a quick, rough schedule of what commissions I’m going to be working on the next few weeks. My goal is to give at least five hours to each project. This is enough to finish some of them, so any leftover hours will be given to the oldest remaining commissions. I’m sorry that this isn’t quite first come first served, but it is easier for me to switch between commissions to avoid burning out on a single project. My goal is to have significant progress or a finished project for each commission by the end of it’s assigned week.
Week 2 (feb 6th-12th):
96, 97, 98, 99, 100
(these are all initial sketches for new projects, so I'll probably start week 3 early and give those projects extra time!)
Week 3 (feb 13th-19th):
68, 79, 85, 87, 88
Week 4 (feb 20th-26th):
89, 90, 92, 93, 94, 95

12/31/24 Update
Posted 8 months agoI’m sending out updates to everyone now! They are a bit form letter like, but there was a lot of information I wanted to include for each person. I’m sorry I couldn’t write completely personalized messages to everyone. I’m working with limited time/energy/spoons and trying to do as much as I can. Thanks to everyone for your patience.
I have a hard time opening up about my personal life. It isn’t out of a need of privacy or not wanting to share, just sometimes I feel like my problems are mine alone and not worth bothering other people about... I know that isn’t true, and if there is one thing I really value about this community is the amount of love and support that is shared.

Quick update
Posted 8 months agoI want to apologize to everyone for my lack of activity. The past few months have been some of the hardest I've ever been through. A combination of lapse of health insurance, lack of mental health medication, chronic pain, depression, apathy, anxiety... It all really got to me. I dropped the ball and let myself get overwhelmed with everything, then refused to admit it to myself until things got completely overwhelming. This is a hard post to write. I feel a lot of guilt and shame for letting people down.
Every commissioner is going to get a personal message from me with an apology and commission update within the next week.
I'm sorry again and appreciate all the patience shown me.

Emergency vet visit for my sweet kitty Russell )':
Posted a year agoLast night was one of the most stressful nights of my life. My sweet, cuddly, amazing six-year-old cat Russell started showing signs of being in pain. I did everything I could to make him more comfortable, but he didn't show any improvement. I called a local emergency vet and was told to bring him in ASAP. Turns out my little man had an extreme urinary blockage and was in incredible pain. Hearing him cry just broke my heart. I don't think I'll ever forget seeing them draw a huge syringe full of bloody urine from his bladder...
Thankfully the emergency vet staff were AMAZING. They saw him right away, gave him medication and did all they could to lessen the pain. They worked with me on a treatment plan, lowering the initial estimate by over 50%, then waiving certain vet fees and even applying a grant funded by donations to the clinic. I don't know what I would have done without their support.
Unfortunately, I still had to borrow money to cover the remaining treatment cost. Repaying this debt won't be easy on my freelance artist income. If anyone reading this could help out in any way, either through donating or just sharing the following link, I'd appreciate it more than I can say!
https://www.gofundme.com/f/sweet-boy-russell-and-his-emergency-urinal-blockage
I'll be looking for additional ways to cover his vet fees. If you're interested in helping through an emergency commission, please keep an eye out for a post from me about them! If you have any advice, words of support, or love and sympathy to share, I'd appreciate it so much. <3

Update 6/19/24
Posted a year agoHello everyone! Sorry for the lack of posts and low activity. These past few months haven't been very easy for me. I hate to get into personal stuff and it's a little complicated... I just want to apologize to anyone who has waited longer than expected for updates on their commissions. I've fallen a bit behind, but I plan to either update or deliver finished art to every current customer on my list before the end of the week.
Here's my current commission tracker. I've been slow at updating it the past few weeks, but my goal is to update it every work day from now on.
Thanks for all your patience with me! I really, really appreciate it. <3

Quick update!
Posted a year agoSorry for the lack of updates over the last month! If you are waiting on a commission and didn't get a note from me today, you'll be getting one very soon!
I've also updated my queue and added a link to my new work-in-progress commission tracker. ^_^
I'll be posting a few new YCHs and opening slots for both fusions and taurifys in the next few days, so keep an eye out if you're interested!

Some questions for commissioners! Open slots!
Posted a year agoFirst things first, I have some fusion and taur-ify slots open still! It's that end of the month hustle, so one or two more commissions would be super helpful!

[Open Adopts!]
[Open YCH!]
I FINALLY updated my commission status list, after almost two months. Oops! I'm working on a system that is much more streamlined for me and hopefully more useful for my commissioners. I'll update here once I move over to that, in the meantime, I have a few questions for people who often buy art. It'd be super helpful for me if you could fill out the following survey and post here (or send me a note if you prefer!)
Do you mind having your name on an artist's public to do list, or do you prefer an anonymous number/description?
Do you often check artist's status updates?
Is there certain information you wish more artists included on their status update lists?
Any other advice or comments?
Thanks in advance to everyone who replies! I'm looking forward to moving to a new system that works better for me and my customers. <3 ^_^

Status Update + Incoming Adoptables!
Posted 2 years agoHello hello!
I've been a bit quiet here the past few months. IRL hasn't been easy. Health issues, money issues, job issues... I'm feeling a bit better though! I'm trying to stay positive and keep on moving forward. ^_^
I'm posting some adopts I've made over the past few months to make up for the lack of YCHs. Why do I have a stockpile of adopts? Well, I've always loved designing new characters and I've been wanting to sell some for a long time, but I'm also insecure AF and haven't had the courage to post any until now. >_<;
But I have my best friend's wedding coming up soon and I need to get some fancy dress up clothes, so I need the extra money. xD; I appreciate any favorites! And if you know someone who might be interested in an adopt I post, I'd love for you to share with them!
•••
On the personal side...
I have a sign board on the wall by my computer. For the past six months it has said 'grow or decay'. I feel like a plant sitting in stagnant water right now. My roots are slowly decaying and it's so hard to keep strong. I know I need to be kind to myself... But it feels like if I'm not improving, then I'm failing. But my faith that I can improve and get better at life isn't very strong to begin with, so it feels like I've failed before I even begin...
At times like this I try to ask myself, what would I say to a friend if they expressed these feelings to me? I know that I'd give them all the love and support I could. I need to do the same thing for myself and face the future with hope and love and courage.
IDK. Just some thoughts I've been having.
•••
I have such a lovely group of followers. I appreciate your support more than I can express. Keep an eye out for some random adopts. I should have some halloween YCHs coming soon too!
Be kind to yourself. <3
