Posted 12 years agoIt's come to my attention that my previous journal's been there for like 6 months... (ok, so Ive noticed before but this is the first time Ive sat down and done something about it).
Hmmm,
Updates: Been working at my first ever full time job since the middle of December.... can't believe it's already been 3 full months .... so this whole 40hrs a week thing is pretty crazy ya?... It's working out as well as can be expected I suppose though it does feel odd to have such a large portion of my waking hours decided (even when in school/college it never quite felt like this). And the monies are better than Ive ever made (to be expected given Ive only ever really worked in service jobs up until this newest one).
As some have noticed, Ive been going through spurts of creative (read: desperate/horny/omg-I-just-realized-its-been-weeks-if-not-months-since-I-started-these-commissions) work... Im pleasantly surprised I haven't reverted to stick figures and sharpies (who'm I kidding... I was always more of a finger painter at heart). I am happy that my commissioners are such a considerate bunch and that they've been pleased (as far as I can tell) so far. To them, and any future potential commissioners, I AM trying to settle my free-time a bit better now that it has been a few months at the new job.
On a personal note: I suppose life can be rough/lonely.... with work causing such a distraction to my attentions I suppose I can be okay with being "single".. though even that's not really true... though it is... *shrugs* I suppose there are bits of my past that Id like to have in place today, then I think about them sometimes and really wonder if I would.... maybe I just need "something".... /end philosophical melancholy/drama/self-pity.....
Personal note #2.... I need to work out. I was going great over the summer/early last year. I was going 2-3x a week, eating alright, improving marginally but still keeping motivated. Then I went on a family trip for 10 days.... then hurt my shoulder (previous journal).... then starting different part time/temp jobs... then this new full time job... now Ive gone to Planet Fitness (the gym Ive been spending 20$ a month on a membership for) like 6 times since June (ok... maybe like 8 times >.>)... I hate not having "those" genes... or not being able to find my drive... or something. I need to do something... though I suppose this builds into the whining from the previous rant (i.e. I don't feel "want/needed physically/intimately" thus subconsciously I use that as an excuse to not strive to better myself (or look good naked >.>....)... sooooo yeah. Puppies and Sunshine

Posted 13 years agoMy right shoulder is sore, likely from straining it at the gym last week. Im pretty sure it was when I was doing Dumbell Flys, I seem to remember accidentally drifting towards my head on one of the down strokes (using 30lb weights). That followed by lifting a few heavy things when helping a friend move as well might have done the trick. Tonight when I went into the gym again I only ended up doing 2 chest and 2 back (versus 3 and 3) because I didn't want to push it when the pain/soreness was kicking in. Oh well, just planning to try and take it easy on it (maybe scrounge up an icy/hot Pad tomorrow).
In commission news: Finally finished my locker room piece. While there are some flaws (they always seem to crop up to my attention when it's nearly finished naturally) Im very happy with how it came out as is the commissioner. For how much was NOT photo-referenced (SHOCK, I use photos for stuff :insane: !!!) I was happy with what I managed.
Next on the commission block is working on my Justice League piece, as well another project that shall remain nameless until the appropriate time. Ive also been approached on one or two other possible pieces that'll be in the works if things work out.
On a personal front: It looks to be that I will have a job, at least for the month of September, working in a research call center. It's part time (though a solid 20hours a week at a decent pay-rate with benefits) but it'll be something. The good thing will be the experience to levy on my resume (not to mention the paycheck in the meantime). It also happens to be in a work-shift time slot that allows me to seek/obtain a normal 9-5 style job as well if I can net one. So there's some improvements to the 14month dry spell career-wise.
On a personal personal note: Ive recently been venturing into the hobby/obsession that is Warhammer 40k. The newest edition of the rules were released this past June and it's a perfect time for someone whose never played to get started. For those that are unfamiliar with the game, it's a tabletop miniatures war game where you build and paint your army of choice (chosen from one of the 13 or 14 factions available) and battle it out with opponents with dice and mayhem. Ive chosen to start building a Dark Angels chapter of Space Marines and am loving every minute of it. I've only built a 10man squad of tactical marines so far (due to finances... it IS a hobby as much as model airplanes or the like). I'll probably post some pictures in my scraps for anyone interested in checking them out as well as some army lists and battles as I play them. Ive played out two games in the last week using borrowed/proxied units just to get some game play under by belt (lost both but Ive learned alot and had fun). It should be a nice addition to the list of things that vie for my limited cash and attention (and yet another thing for my parents to shake their heads at when I tell them about it).
I suppose that's enough for now, just felt like tossing a quick life-splat up for those that are curious ^^

New Group Commission! Car-Karma [4 Slots Left!!]
Posted 13 years agoHey all, thank you again to all of you who participated in my Avengers Assemble! commission. It was a blast to work on and I hope you all enjoyed the finished product as much as I enjoyed working on it. With that I'm offering a new group commission since the Avengers piece was so popular. The monies from this current venture (along with most of what I made from the Avengers run) will be very helpful as Ive recently learned that my car is trying to kill me XD. I took it to the shop to check the breaks which were making an odd noise only to find they are almost blown out and need to be fully replaced (like the hydraulics and all, not just the pads). Needless to say it wont be cheap and although Im strongly considering finding a different car in the very near future, this is the one I have and Im struggling to get it working again. I hate coming off needy which is why Im very glad that the last group shot was received so well and I hope enough people can jump on the chance of this new one (and the help it'll give me irl will just be gravy! )

Updates, Steaming, etc
Posted 13 years agoHey all, so it's been a few weeks since my last journal post. Just wanted to toss up a little update incase anyone was wondering what the buck was up to. My recent internship ended this past week (the 4th) which is both good and bad. I have more free time and it's no longer the grind in an industry I clearly wasn't interested in, but at the same time it means not having a steady paycheck until I link up somewhere else. Ive got some small plans in the works but the hope is something legit will pan out before to long.
In general, life has been about status quo, both for good and bad. Ive been lifting something like 3x a week and trying to maintain a steady "healthy" diet. The latter has had it's slips, mainly under the excuse of lack of time/availability on my part while working. A cop out I realize but I am doing my best to augment my lifestyle to match a healthier eating plan. The trouble is Ive not lost much if any weight :-/ I am 26, 5'8... and 220lbs. Im not outwardly obese save for not being skinny. I know that muscle is like 2x the weight of fat, at the same time fat takes up like 3x the volume/space of muscle but it's just frustrating to work as much as I have and not see much in the way of appreciable results. Wistful thinking in just 3 months of the current routine, I know, but still. I'll be hacking at it regardless.
On the commission front for those whom I still owe pieces, I have not forgotten you, and with the extra time Ive been working on them as best I can (this week's been a bit of a scramble to catch up with appointments and such now that I dont have a 9-5 commitment). The piece I posted earlier this week should be finished in a few days if all goes well and I'll be working on the other two commission slots as well.
That being said, I am very much open to taking on more slots if anyone is interested. Just shoot me a note if you have questions or just want to bounce some ideas back and forth.
Along with all that, I am going to stream my current work for a bit tonight and will be planning on doing so in the future (though not so often that a journal here or there advertising the event should bother anyone watching me). Feel free to stop by and watch! I'll post the livestream link when I get things up and running.

Happy Belated birthday to me!
Posted 13 years agoHey everyone, as the title suggests, my birthday came and went recently (this past Friday the 13th). I got a Kindle Fire from my dad and a ton of gift-card monies to Khols from my mom along with a slew of well wishes on Facebook and at my local card shop where I play Magic. Oh and a set of shinny golden dragons for my WoW account thanks to my closest of friends
And that's it.
I did get a sketch and ink done for mirraj though in record time. Im very happy with how it came out all told as I didn't use any kind of reference art/photos for the poses. My anatomy drifts at times but has been getting incrementally better Id have to say. Though I can be a horrible judge of my own work at times (I know Im a savage critic).
Anyways, in real life Im down to something like 4 weeks of my internship left with no official offer of continued employment afterward. I might be working on some consulting work with the offices if I can get a solid pitch before Im done.
And there's always the slim chance of making some cash from commissions ^^.

Upcomming Stream, Commissions, etc
Posted 13 years agoHey all, I just redownloaded my LiveStream program and am probably going to start streaming again for those few that remember my doing so about a year ago. I have 3 commissions still in the works so those'll be the content for now with any other projects that come up being up for grabs as well. So if you're currently awaiting a commission piece, or are thinking about getting one in the future, this has been a great tool in the past for getting feedback to me in real time and ensuring client satisfaction. Plus it can be cool to watch (I know I love watching artists stream).
I'll be putting up an advertising journal when I do stream (removing it when the stream is complete, sorry about the annoying "This Journal Has Been Removed" message in your notifications because of this).
For commissioners, if you'd like to arrange certain times to try and stream your piece Id be happy to oblige. Also, should you NOT want you piece streamed, I will respect any such request.
On the Commission front, as I said above I have 3 more slots to work on. The next one planned is the last of the 4 part series Ive been working on for mirraj featuring his drow Omdyul with my characters Erik and Ahtrim. My internship that I started back in Feb will be ending in early May. I don't have anything definite after that aside from a family trip in June so I expect my artwork time to increase drastically. That said I am trying to find as much time as I can now, despite my boring RL obligations and less boring digital distractions *cough* WoW/SWOTOR/MtG *cough*.

On the Commission front, as I said above I have 3 more slots to work on. The next one planned is the last of the 4 part series Ive been working on for
mirraj featuring his drow Omdyul with my characters Erik and Ahtrim. My internship that I started back in Feb will be ending in early May. I don't have anything definite after that aside from a family trip in June so I expect my artwork time to increase drastically. That said I am trying to find as much time as I can now, despite my boring RL obligations and less boring digital distractions *cough* WoW/SWOTOR/MtG *cough*. I hope you all are doing well and the like.

Posted 14 years agoHey all, it's be a little while since my last journal so I thought Id toss out what's going on in the muscled buck's side of the field.
My move back to NC (from NY) worked out well enough and Im settling into my new townhouse. I havent found definite employment yet, but am taking advantage of a new program for recent graduates from my university (NC State). All next week I'll be attending career building classes, culminating with a professional networking event with local employers (including bigger companies that have local offices) on friday. Im rather excited, save for the fact that Ive been dealing with allergies/minor resperatiory issues for the last 2-3weeks. Its annoying at best, coughing without reason. Ive been taking various meds along with trying to rest and drink fluids and all that jazz but it's been a slow process overall.
In the commissions arena, I have been working on my commissions cue, so to those whom I still owe work, fear not! I did a mess of coloring on the current piece today and have a working sketch for the next one in line that needs roughing before I can post it for approval. With the job hunting and coughing my skull apart (along with the bouts of Lightsaber wielding distractions... I'll admit it, dont judge me >.> ) I can imagine I'll have the next one on the list rendered and posted in a day or three, with the working sketch of the one after that posted shortly there after.

The last week of December is going to find this buck moving back south from the frigid north of Upstate NY. Chiefly among the reasons why, to return to the arms of the one I love, but almost as importantly, to gain access to many more employment opportunities than where I am now. So, as I moved from NC to NY in an attempt to save money by going home and such, but in doing so, it wiped out my savings (nearly 800 to barely make it back). It appears to move back, it'll cost the same, if not more and Ive not been able to work part time jobs enough to recover that savings. Family is going to help some but Id rather put as much of my own resources... I digress.
COMMISSION DRIVE time!!!
So, I'll be offering discounted commissions in hopes of getting at least enough to pay for gas for the trip (which would rock like 1-200 depending on prices). Currently, a full color commission would average $17-20 for 2 characters. I'll offer a $5 discount for any and all commissions placed for the remainder of 2011. Anything goes, no concept or fetish will go unattempted! So, shoot me a note/comment here, spread the word (word of mouth, journals, etc). Any and all help is deeply appreciated.

SAI/Bamboo Pen&Touch tablet issues (again). (reward for fix)
Posted 14 years agoHey all, so I'm still having issues with my tablet not acknowledging pen pressure anymore. It's either 100 % or 0%. It will track position fine, and it will draw if pressed, but it's nothing more than a mouse in my paw at the moment as far as the effectiveness of the tool. As the title says, I'm using Paint Tool SAI primarily though Ive encountered the same issue with GIMP and I don't have a working version of Photoshop atm to test (plus I hate sketching in PS).
So far Ive tried: restarting the computer; cycling the tablet to a different USB; re-downloading SAI; changing settings (pressure settings); updating drivers from Wacom; uninstalling and going to older drivers that worked before (though it was a different tablet- Bamboo Fun); going through device manager to remove the tablet from there and reinstalling it (both manually and form the start up disc).
When I posted the previous journal I managed, through some combination of the above, to get the pressure to work again for a short while. Unfortunately it was rather late by then and I felt it was fixed so I put my computer to sleep and retired for the evening. The next day it wasn't working again, much to my dismay you can imagine.
I understand there is somewhat of a disagreement between Wacom and any non-Adobe programs given Wacom/Adobe have licensing agreements, but my concern is that this didn't happen with my Bamboo Fun, just recently with the new Pen&Touch.
If anyone has anything that has worked, knows someone that has tackled similar problems, etc. please comment or note me. I still plan to slowly work with the digital ink-pen that I have but Id really like to have the full functionality of my tablet again if possible.

Help!! (SAI/tablet problem) (Fixt!!)
Posted 14 years agoHey all, I know I havent been around lately, been busy with life I suppose. Anyways, Ive been trying to get some commission sketches/general artwork going and for some reason my setup has recently decided to bug out on me. Im using Paint Tool SAI and replaced my old Bamboo Fun with a (Wacom) Bamboo Pen and Touch. It seemed to be working just fine when I first bought it, though now that I think of it it was also not responding to pen pressure.
The Problem: I cant get the pen-tool to register anything between no pressure and 100% pressure.
Im running: Windows 7
Paint Tool Sai
Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch tablet
newest drivers (as of Sept 2011 according to Wacom's website)
From what Ive read on SAI's forum it's a somewhat common problem, but Ive yet to find a solution there to fix it.

Art Update and YOU!
Posted 14 years agoSo more developments in the buck's studio. The other day my Bamboo Fun fried on me (see previous journal). Id ordered a Bamboo Touch online as replacement and expected it to arrive this coming weekend only to get an email the next day informing me that the item was "still" out of stock (funny, they charged me for an instock one easy enough before that) and that they would refund my card. Luckily my mother woke me up asking what kind of tablet it was she broke and if she could get one at Best Buy. I tagged along and we snagged a nifty Bamboo Pen and Touch (basically what Id thought Id ordered online). Now that Ive worked out a few cluncky settings (the "touch" sensitivity was way high and the Win7 Tablet settings are silly) Im back in business. Let me tell you all (yeah, YOU, the one person miraculously reading this probably years after it was written), Im liking this new tablet. All in all it's working out smoothly.
Annnnyywhooo, Im back to the grind and once again, full on open for business. The 3 commissions I have in the works shall fall before my mighty penstrokes in a matter of days *cough*hopefully*cough* and I'll once again be thinking of tasty morsels of hunky flesh to draw for you all.
To reitterate: I AM open for commissions still. "Hiccup" in art.... (update)
Posted 14 years agoSo today there was a minor plumbing failure at my mothers (to which Im staying at)... in it some water dripped (in copious amounts), onto the table where my laptop and tablet were set up. While I had thought that none of it had directly come in contact, there was some splashed onto the tablet (though thankfully it avoided the laptop proper and only got the case of my external monitor). Again, Id thought Id saved all told, and thought nothing of it. Earlier this evening I got to work coloring one of the commissions I have in que. Perhaps 20mins in, while touching up an area, it fritzed and stopped working. I unplugged it, blew out the openings etc, then plugged it back in. Everything worked fine (though in retrospect Id failed to notice the Fn1 button was no longer backlit). That is for about 15-20mins before it once again fritzed, this time all the lights going out and no response. I unplugged it, tried to open up the back to air it out, even downloaded new drivers on the off chance that Wacom's notorious driver drop happened. Nada.
So, long story, any commission work is going to be delayed until I can replace it (I could try and use my mouse but I think Id kill someone given the detail Ive invested so far).
TL;DR, tablet flopped, need to replace, pr0nz delayed for a few days at least.
*sighs* today has been a shit day, this just iced the cake.
[Update]: Ive ordered a Bamboo Touch (which is slightly larger than my old tablet, yay) and should have it sometime next week hopefully. I'll crank back into commissions once that happens.

Also, as a minor update, I made it safely to the frigid* north that is Upstate NY. The trailer lasted the whole way and my mustang didnt die despite having 1100lbs of crap towed behind it through the "gentle" climb that is Pennsylvania. Im settling in alright here at my mother's, even picking up shifts at my old HS part time jobs while I spread my seed.. I mean whore myse... I mean send applications to everywhere under the sun.
There's no AC, the network here is crap, I cant cook in my own kitchen, I have next to no privacy, and Im in danger of becoming stuck in the deadend that is this dinky little town... that said, I'll survive and SOMETHING will happen in the next few months. Until then, I'll be slaving at the part-timers, hanging with some old HS friends, playing games and doing what commission/general artwork I can, when I can.
The three active commissions I have in que are all going to be worked on and if anyone is interested in getting something from me, please dont take this update as a sign of my not being open, I am. Ive just been understandably delayed with all the moving 600miles and partially melting and whatnot. Anywhooo, I'll keep you all posted. Toodles

Upcoming move and commission update (now with actual text!)
Posted 14 years agoSo the lease on my current apartment ends on July 31 and thus Im moving up to my mother's for a little while. Mostly it's because I went to High School there and I have contacted two of my old high school part-time jobs and they've allowed me to pick up a few hours of work here and there. Needless to say Im thrilled that worked out logistically speaking as the move itself is gonna rape my savings (had to get a hitch for my car installed, rent the U-Haul trailer, gas to get up there, etc). My father will still be helping out for a few more months financially or until, HOPEFULLY, I get something of the nature of a real job.
Speaking of real jobs.... they suck. It'd be one thing for employers to turn me down for not being qualified... but every single job rejection Ive received has been basically "You qualify, but there's this guy who's 1% better than you, so shove off.".... 64 resume/applications to date, not expecting anything positive for at least that many more >.<. SO, part time menial labor here I come. Plus the occaisonal commission and the endearing assistance of family (who I feel horrible taking this kinda help, but I suppose that's one of the great things about family on occaisson heh).
About commissions: Currently I have 3 "regular" commissions in the works, all of which Im still doing position/rough sketching on. That said, Im progessing realtively well on all of them so those of you whom Im talking about, rejoice.... go on... ok, dont then -.-... Beyond those I have like 5 IA slots that were sold or held in reserve that are still in flux. To the owners of thus, whenever you get to me with details, I can hammer those out for you asap.
To any prospective commissioners: Do not take my move as a sign of me stopping commission work. Quite the contrary, I could use all the help I can get. Updates/ the rest of the summer (Regular Commissions Open)
Posted 14 years agoSo, in my first attempt at an Iron Artist Challenge I managed 36 submissions out of 100. With 7 more slots reserved/sold but not finished by the deadline (6 of which because the commissionee's were unable to get me descriptions for various reasons). Still, for my first attempt, 30% isnt half bad. It still worked out to being roughly 1 picture a day which is much more than my output to day otherwise. Granted not everyone was a masterpiece but I was very proud of several and I know those of you who bought slots have expressed your satisfaction as well (which makes it all the better for me).
To those who I still owe submissions, I havent forgotten you by any means. If you still need to send me descriptions, I'll get to work as soon as I have them (or in the case of one or two, payment as well).
My regular commission status never officially closed but let this be an "official" announcement of my opening, lets say, 10 slots for regular commissions. More if a sudden wave of interest appears My prices are on my front page but Id also be happy to respond to questions about anything via notes or comments.
In other news, my search for my first post-college-graduate career continues. As of this journal I have applications all over the place but have no bites as of this moment. Im still hopeful and I know I'll manage somehow for the foreseeable future. Also, my current part-time job is drying up a bit but that means even more time for the pr0nz so bring it on haha.
On a side note, my desktop decided it was going to throw a temper tantrum and is no longer working. Fear not, my laptop is fully capable of pumping out throbbing muscle laden sluts, just not at quite the same ease/speed as I had been getting used to. It's just one more hole in the already leaky boat that is my bank account these days.... feel free to help with your commissions (think of it as handing me a bucket to flail frantically about with in a metaphorical sense). Iron Artist Challenge UPDATE [Closed 44/100]
Posted 14 years agoSo, with technically some three weeks into this challenge Ive tried my best to get the slots done as soon as possible. Naturally, as soon as I set my mind to using my free time for this project RL starts rearing it's annoying head haha. Ive extended my deadline once to account for the several days I was absolutely unable to do any art. That said, Im very pleased at how much those of you who've purchased slots and have received pictures have liked them. Ive even surprised myself with a few of them given in the past Ive struggled for certain pictures that didnt have the "deadline" of this kind of challenge. With just about two weeks remaining (the 30th day being June 23rd) I know I can finish all of the currently sold slots and would love to have more to work on by then. So, that's where you all come in.

While I prefer adult oriented work, they can be clean or naughty. I'll be limiting them to a max of two characters per image since more than that will take more time. Commission Pricing
Posted 14 years agoSo as Ive finished off the sketch for sorablue94's mini-comic commission I got to thinking about my commission prices overall. As the comics are a new addition, Ive started the base price at $15 (considering comics can be a variety of subjects from simple scenes to transformations to complicated panels depicting very in depth stuff). But in thinking about how much to ask for them, the thought expanded to the rest of my art.
So from those who've commissioned me, to those who are watching me and have seen my work thus far, to those just reading this and seeing my work for the first time.... what sounds like a fair pricing? (Pulled from my front page):
I have my prices set currently at--
[Sketches] $3,
[Inks] $5-7,
[Coloring(existing lineart)] $10,
[Full Color/Shaded] $15-17,
[Reference Sheets] $20,
[Comics] $15+ (simple "mini/one page" comics starting at 15 for example);
with how much additional things like detailed backgrounds and extra characters listed as well.
So I guess the question is, am I being fair... to generous... to pricey? I just would like some feedback I suppose. Especially given the somewhat lack of inquiries for my commissions in general. Granted I havent been super active in the last few months due to school, and Im not some superstar artist like a few around here (I have no qualms about admitting I have plenty of learning to do). Just thinking outloud I suppose. Please, do tell me what you all think.
And incase you missed it.... I AM open for commissions. See the previous journal about some of my incentives even if you might be interested ^^.

Summer commissions et all
Posted 14 years agoHey everyone, sorry for being sporadic on here. This week begins the first week of finals for the last semester of my undergraduate career!! (Yay, go reindeer!) That and my birthday being two weeks ago, Ive been naturally busy. BUT, now I have before me two months of nearly nothing but time on my hands.... filled with job/career searching, part time work when I can find it, and looooots of pawing... uhh I mean... yeah

Annnnyyywho, while I never officially "closed" my commission status, I felt this would be a good time to "open" my summer commissions to anyone who might be interested. I don't have any "specials" at the moment save the discount/free inclusion of any of my characters in a paid commission (look here for details).
SO, as a minor incentive, the next FOUR (adult) commissions get 20% off IF they include one of my characters. (They can even just be spectating if you'd like) This offer will be valid until for the next five, however long it takes to attract five commissioners heh.
ALSO, anyone who would be so kind as to pimp out this journal for me net's themselves a 10% discount on a commission from me (valid until used).... AND A COOKIE!!!! (Just link your journal pimping this journal when you send me commission details) *Note: You get the cookie even if you dont want to use the discount ^//^

Posted 14 years agoSo yes, I'm now even more ancient than I was yesterday, by a whole year even! I turn 25 today wootles. As far as I know, nothing big is planned for tonight. Friday my roommate and I are hosting a movie-night/birthday party so there is that.
In a few weeks I'll be graduating from NC State University, so even more celebrations are in order to be sure.
