It's been so long since I even checked in here, but I have a free weekend and have been thinking of implementing a few of my ideas. Mostly I'm thinking of changing Order_Chiroptera into more of an informative group on bats, with updates on bat conservation and links to various articles on bats and such. There are already a few social groups for bats already!

So either I rework this group from the ground up, or I start a totally new group. What does everyone think?

Sorry I haven't updated in a long while, but I just haven't had the drive lately. Not only that, but I'm not sure what to do with this group anymore. I have a few ideas, but they'd require a complete retooling and I really don't feel up to that right now. I'm sure everyone's been getting their bat fix from  batsoffa and  batbatbat in the meantime though. :3

It's always good to learn more about bats! I need to stop relying on Bat World Sanctuary so much though. Need more videos plz!

I really hope late videos aren't going to be a regular thing. Though I was without internet last weekend, so it's not entirely my fault this time!

Anyway, this is another video from Bat World Sanctuary! I wanted to show this last month, but couldn't find it. I found it, so...here it is?

Sorry this one is a bit late. I'm still catching up from all the New Year's hoopla. Hope everyone had a good start to theirs!

Anyway, to kick off a new year full of batty goodness, here are the bats of Austin! 1.5 million bats emerging from their roosts under Congress Bridge to the delight of onlookers. Please ignore all the screechy people if possible. X3



This is definitely something I need to see for myself someday!

Also, I'm not sure if I'm going to keep up the bat pic o' the week since it's just a link buried in the main page and very easy to miss. Ah well.

I'm criminally late in bringing this up, but it's important nonetheless. White Nose Syndrome is a vicious plague affecting countless bats in the northern and middle parts of the North American continent. The fungus Geomyces Destructans have been pinpointed as the cause, but has already wiped out millions of bats and decimated entire colonies and is still spreading.

Bats need our help! I'm sure none of us want this tragedy to continue. But there are ways you can help:

Support and donate to Bat Conservation International. The BCI is an internationally recognized authority on bats, and the go-to place for bat conservation info and other resources. Also consider becoming a paid BCI member, or at least sign up for their free e-Newsletter!

For US citizens, there is an online petition to include WNS research funds in the 2013 Fiscal Year budget. You'll need to create an account to sign, but it's worth it. We need 25,000 signatures by November 25. That's a lot, and not much time, so don't hesitate or put it off! For those outside the US, spread the word! Tell anyone you know in the States, even if they're not bat enlightened!

If nothing else, merely spread the word about the tragedies of WNS and the importance of bats in the environment. Knowledge is out greatest ally you know! Dispelling the myths and misinformation about our favorite fuzzy flyers is key to gaining the public's support and concern for their welfare. Trust me!

Sorry if that's a lot of rambling, but it's important to know how to help and why. I know we can make a difference, SO GO DO IT ALREADY! ;D

I've been making small changes and cleanups here and there, mostly little things on the main page and restoring links on the Member lists. Progress is slow but steady!

On the main page, I added some bat links to be updated regularly:

Bat image of the week - Self explanatory. Cool or cute pictures of bats for us to love! I'll be updating this every Friday, unless I forget.

Bat video of the month - Also pretty self explanatory. Videos of bats in the wild or in zoos or other responsible captivity, doing batty things! I'll be updating this at the beginning of every month. Unless I get a lot, then I'll do it weekly. I'll try to not forget this either.

Bat Articles - Informative online articles on bats. Their anatomy, behavior, effect on and place in the environment, etc. I'll update this whenever I get enough to warrant a change.

I'll be keeping the old links in an archive journal for everyone to peruse whenever they want. I want to make  Order_Chiroptera popular again after it's long hiatus, so lend a wing and send some bat links! :D

I'll do my best to bring  order_chiroptera to a glorious resurrection! But gosh, where to start? Any suggestions? Other than the massive backlog to sort through. I hope I'm not getting in over my head.

This journal will be mainly used for connections with other "bat" members of FA. I will [try] to update once every two weeks. This will mostly be to add watchers to their respective lists.

I will also be adding to a list of Conservations, Articles, Videos and Merchandise that I have started on the main page. The Articles and Videos will be added to the journal that the link sends you too. It will have a notification on the main page each time something is added to the journal and that will stay up for a week before it is taken down.

As for artwork and stuff like that. You must send me a note if you wish to have it featured in a journal or on the main page. I'm afraid that it will be too difficult for me to go through and just post links to a ton of art every two weeks. I will however, spend time searching through artwork and faving it, so be sure to check under the favorites every now and again.

I will have a journal [eventually] dedicated to bat artwork on other sites because these will come in much fewer quantities. Please feel free to send me links for this as well.

I hope this is everything that I wanted to say...I feel as if I've forgotten some things. Ah well, if I have I know how to get in touch with all of you. :3

So as most of you have noticed...or not, I don't really keep up to date with this club.

I'm asking for help.

If anyone is willing to help me keep up with journals, pictures, updates, and the like it would be really appreciated. I'm having a good deal of trouble with school and many life "issues." After a while of not updating here I start to feel bad because I don't post anything so I kinda feel like I let the group down? or something like that but, I'm rambling.

But, main point of this. If you would like to help, seriously help, then send a note to my main FA page. :3

It would help me out a great deal not to have to concentrate on this journal but, still have it updated regularly because I really don't want it to have to close or just fail and die.

Just to let everyone know, I am working on posting a journal with all of the members in it. It should be up within a day or two. I've been extremely busy lately and I've been having computer troubles.



Info for the artists: If any of you out there would like to have your art, of a bat of course, featured as the "Picture of the Week" just let me know. Comment on this journal with a link or send it in a note. Please do not put it in a shout, I am least likely to remember it if you do. :3

 shorty-antics-27 Brought my attention to a website called Bat World Sanctuary, it's a non-profit organization and everything they earn goes to taking care of the bats they are housing. This website is for bats that have been hurt, abandoned, etc.

On the site there are links to information about bats, what to do if you find a bat, how to make a bat house among other things. You can even adopt a bat.

So, please take a look and help if you can.
