Dragoneer, Thank You
Posted a year agoI'm late as per usual with this, but wanted to wait til things died down a bit to say my thoughts
Dragoneer was definitely a staple in the Fandom, can't really add much to what's been said by almost everybody else. Don't want to sound hypocritical because our direct interaction was rare, but it was usually fun when he would chime in on a pic, or profusely apologize that one time he had to ban me and a few other edgyboiz for a day for breaking the journals cuz they didn't have textwrap yet lol
He was definitely the glue for this site, and from what I got he was a really sweet guy. He helped a lot of round and about Furries a place to sit, express themselves and resonate with others, form bonds that last til this day. That's neat, dunno how to express the proper gratitude other than yeah, it's neat, and I appreciated the wanton memories it's given me
I got what happened to him and it's just... Sad. I've had someone pass due to healthcare snafus during Covid, it's angering, frustrating. And I'm absolutely sorry that things happened for him the way that hey have. It's awesome seeing the GoFundMe Drive listed above, it's awesome so many are contributing to aid those affected by his passing and the site he wanted to help flourish. You guys are awesome too
Not sure how to wrap this up other than a thank you to Dragoneer and his team. I know y'all get a lot of shit over the years, and this might ring a lil hollow coming from me~ but still, thank you for having the patience for putting up with us lol
And thank you to Dragoneer for all of his hard work in keeping a beacon for Furies all over available to this day if they so choose to slide in and make an account

Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist (Full Live Action Series)
Posted 11 years ago lol You guys knew I was a fan of their Mortal Kombat: Legacy run (waiting on season 3, though season 2 was sorta hit/miss). But Machinima does it again by hosting a pretty ambitious fan project. It's not super high budget, but these guys got Street Fighter much more than right for the amount of constraints time and budget-wise they've had. It's also story-driven, so it's not all fighting, but the acting is top notch so it's not slow when it's 'slow', so to say lol
Gotta stress that a 'lot' went into this, but yeah, it's a fan-made series though it's high-end for what it is; some extensive development documentaries are here - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCw.....d2MBq1jKuZrQKA Been following these guys since they did their SF: Legacy short a couple years back and also can't stress the passion part of the project, they really put in the effort imo
Really hoping that they take on some of the other SF storylines, like the first tournament/Sagat, second tournament/Bison, or even SF3! They seem to have the passion, and maybe with time and a bigger budget, they can get over the cheese factor some (though it's impossible to completely cut it all out, it being Street Fighter and all lol)
lol Thought this was fun, figured I'd share if you guys weren't already aware. Love shit like this!

Early Urgent Commissions + Future Commission Schedule
Posted 12 years ago Hokay, so, last Journal I'd mentioned a financial snafu. Long story short, I'd gotten late-charged for a bill and overestimated savings to cover it in the midst of paying off some others. It was a dick move for the late charge, but I can't really contest it, so it fucked me over since I wasn't paying attention assuming that things were rolling properly.
It was my fault for overextending myself and assuming without looking at my history, and it's pretty rare that I blunder so big. I still have a sizable queue I'm still pushing through, and was gonna aim for the end of the month, butI can't summon a money golem for insta-cash to ward off the impending charges to an overdrawn account, so I'm biting the bullet and opening up some slots for Comic Commissions to cover the sizable cut, and gonna push so I can add cushion back to my account since I don't make much to compensate for random losses.
To even it out, gonna set a schedule up so that current and future commissioners (if this kicks off) will have something tangible to work off of with me, since I've been rather spotty. Also gonna be charging a bit for these, but putting down a plan below to ease the payments so it's fair on both ends.
Gonna be using a lot of bold and underlining to emphasize points below, really sorry in advance if this comes off as douchey and seemingly condescending, it's not the intention at all, just wanna make sure that I'm understood right!
Okay, so Schedule:
-The rest of this month (January), I'm finishing up the paints from the last couple of months and the comic layouts (which are about 2/3 done, currently). This will free me up for-
-The next month+ (February+) where I focus on and finalize the comic commissions, including some via livestream at night if people are interested in watching!
-The commissions I'm currently opening up for will be laid out at the beginning of the next month (February) alongside the ones being finished up. This might spill into March, depending on how fast I get these done.
Alright, and the Comic Commissions themselves:
Offering 4 slots/4 commissions for a 10 page, cel-shaded, 2 character comic with a painted cover for $500 each. Gonna go the route of taking half up-front ($250) and the other half after I've done the layout so that there's a little leverage and less stress on the situation like paying all up-front would cause. Also suggesting, since it's a 2 character comic, to go dutch on the commission with somebody you'd like to be paired up with; this would ease up the price, making it more affordable being split between two. Payment will be via PayPal.
As far as samples, it's a toughie; I've put out comics before, but, due to some recent studying and researching technique, the quality will be at a higher standard as I push the cel-shading aspect. My lines aren't uber-clean, but these will be a bit sharper than seen currently. Aiming for an animation-ish look, closest explanation would be a cross between my style and being influenced by Blizzard's Pearl of Pandaria - http://calebsawyer.com/wp-content/u.....page_029sm.jpg - for coloring style.
Priority will be the current queue, but putting the comics into the mix, they will be worked on aide the others, and should be fine when the layouts are agreed upon and finalized. Aiming for everything to be finished up in March, at the latest.
If you're interested, send a note and we'll discuss it there. I'm only taking on four, so when I meet that limit, I'll be closing this down, but I'll open up when I'm done with the current queue, if you like what I'll produce, make it a regular thing. I 'really' appreciate the help, guys, and thank you for being so patient with me!

Oh, Here I Am! Commission Status + Comic Stream February
Posted 12 years ago Been a while since last Journal, and long story short, was dealing with some deep personal things, shit got heavy A lot of inner-demon fighting, bad news about a couple people having health issues, some unexpected damage to the wallet.
Things are better, just was a weird couple of months to sorta cap off a weird few years, and a lot of good both tangible and potential came from the damage, and there's a bit to repair. I don't do new years resolutions or any of that shit, but I think it's ironically the start of a decent year, so hey for grand coincidences, yanno? lol
Yadda yadda ya, irrelevant shit in the longrun, honestly, it's a lil akward explaining personal woes on an art forum. How's it relevant to FurAffinity, the art, yanno? Guess I needed to explain myself, and sorry for being so late with these projects, and for your patience, especially to the clients for the commissions that I'm still working on.
So, plan: Bad news aside, things are still on schedule. A solid one, if anything! In short: all pinups/one-shots (painted commissions, etc) by the end of this month. I'm also laying out the comics, which has gotten easier, so that I can focus on nothing but them next month.
Also plan to stream the finishing process off and on, if anybody's interested; I made a mention last November or so about streaming more, I just needed things in order so it wasn't a boring painful process! Planning on streaming more in the general future if it's something that interests you guys.
future commissions, I might open early to cut down on the surprise debt, offer a couple more comic commissions. After that will be the rotating queue that I keep mentioning on a more regular basis prolly mid next month or March, given how fast I get through the rest of this queue, so if you were interested, bear with me!
Alright, cheers and happy new years, guys. Here's to an awesome year! :)

Direction, Fair Price, Comics, Streams, ArtSlave, Sex, Drugs
Posted 12 years agoAnd Rock'n'rooolllll
Warning: 'Lots' of reading ahead, not much comp/spell/grammar check involved, really sorry beforehand!
Hokay, so almost done laying out both the one-shot midpaint queue and the comics, wanna say that both should be completed by Monday at this rate; this stuff took longer than expected, but it's mostly my fault outside of the obvious technical obstacle of just doin it:
I think I'm at that point where I'm thinking on what I wanna do next with the art thing. I'm a lil late with this, but better late than never, and it's been weighing on my mind and sorta put on the backburner for this reason or that. There's also bein surrounded by so much talent and simultaneously being inspired and daunted, cus, yanno, friggin amazing art! lol It's sometimes overwhelming and makes you question your skill, and you get stumped cuz you wanna do as well as X Artist, or you get inspired by a movie and you wanna go 'that' far, etc, and you realize that you have some more steps to take.
Also a big part is making it fun, which is my fault for not really getting into things like I used to. Even with commisionwork, you can still have a lil fun with it, think up lil stories and shit to make it 'come to life', like 'why does this guy have so many weapons?', 'Why does this guy's eyes glow?' or, in the case of FA; 'why is this guy's cock so damned big?', see if I can sorta give some nuance to my work, make it read more like a scene instead of a pic. Ironically somethin I used to do before, Iunno, mid-UnshackledFenrir era
Both are valid reasons to rethink things a bit, but though it's daunting, you should always step forward as long as those steps count. Two things have definitely come of this lil stumble; one, I've developed a better system to put out art a bit quicker (outside of stagnation), and two, I want to go the 3D animation route, which means that I need to upgrade my ol' hoss to a new computer that can handle 3D animation fairly well, preferably more than fairly. So hey! Good things from a lil tumble and burn!
I also developed a plan set for future streams and how I handle commissions; I already have a 'blue/green' method in place revolving around notes where I send out the color mockups for greenlighting, thus going from blue stage to green stage using the lil 'priority' tabs in FA's Note System. When greenlighted, I can go all-out and finish it up. But the thing I wanna do in the future is, when something's greenlighted, I feel like it's easier to stream cuz it has a general direction, so I might stream more when I have greenlighted projects to work on so it's less of a visual clusterfuck.
That said, I might do the opposite with comics and show how I lay those out. Since I'm still gettin it down, but I feel have a better system than, shit, a couple months ago after some studying, it should be fine before the 'greenlight' stage.
Which leads into what I want to do; more comics! They used to sorta scare me, but now I'm digging it, especially with laying them out as a whole beforehand instead of doing them one page at a time like a special boy. I am still working on the finish, trying different techniques with each of the comics I have in the works already, from soft shading, to cel shading, to painterly, to colored sketch, trying to see what would generally work best. After
taoren showed me some tricks with cel shading, I might settle with that as a default, clean my lines up accordingly to encompass the style, but might slip into other styles to fit certain comic topics.
Hokay, on actual prices for commissions; I had a couple of people ask why I charge so little (considerably). I wanna balance staying fair price with skill level. There are tone of artists that run rings around me, so I think it's fair enough, though I'm aware that artists normally charge higher for even speedpaints. It just means that I need to work on my speed along with my skill lol
Also might do some 'art slave' days for fun, still settling on a fair price for a 6-hour(ish) session. Still in the works; if interested, I'll prolly update about that soon!
So, in short; wanna do some neat shit in the future as well as learn and grow so I can do said neat shit! I need a new computer to work on properly learning 3D animation, so outside of some side-debt I wanna kill off and, of course, bills, I'll be aiming my commission funds at that.
And cocaine. #realtalk
Alright, think that's about it. got a few more one-shots to get greenlighted, then I should be set for this streaming schedule. Thinkin Tuesday to Thursday nights about 6pm -12am and early Saturday afternoons for a bit, you guys think that's a plan? Get to see how I fumble around for hours and produce all the hentai while braving the Barrens Chat in the chatroom and my random taste in music! Thinkin on doing mic/commentary, not sure what I'd say, though, maybe for some sort of tutorial on how I do things from scratch someday, not sure lol
Alright, think that's about it. I have a couple of other ideas, but might fill in a future post. lol Comic month, here we friggin go!

Somethin a Lil Different: Fluid Commission Schedule/Update
Posted 12 years agoHokay, tentatively wanna say that the last of the pinup/two-char midpaint commissions from last month should be laid out tomorrow night or the day after, and I can open up for more while working on the final coat of paint. Thanks for being patient with me, the move's made things a lil hectic!
While I wait for confirmation, I'll alternate between those already given the green light and laying out the rest of the comics (cuz I wanna get all of this stuff done with! haha); I guess the dilemma is making sure that it comes out proper and there are still things that I'm still tryin to get down proper for the comics to make them look better. I didn't know that that smooth shading look would be so hard, and I'm still tryin to figure it out!
Also pushing to do the 3D animation thing, so I need to save up for a new computer cuz this one's on its last legs. I might do some sort of thing specifically for the computer, which will be roughly $2,000 abouts to get done what I wanna do with it, brainstorming on what so that, if I'm dropping art as barter, it'd be fair for those that choose to participate.
So, next few weeks are gonna be crazy, and I'll be doin a lot of evening streaming!
Also, last day for Mighty No. 9 support! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects.....07e27012adfa7e <-- $20 for the full DLable PC version, get on it while the day's going!

Commission/General Update: Aug 30 - 'Lectric Boogaboo
Posted 12 years ago Hokay, so still laying out the rest of the current lineup for quick procession with the newish painting system that I have goin on lately. Sliiight delay due to moving to Alameda and the hecticness that comes with Fresh Apartment Smellâ„¢, but should be done with the layouts by Monday; sorry about that, guys!
The comics are continuing to be laid out as well, and should start posting those by the end of next week throughout the month, so everything's going smoothly, which makes me really friggin happy lol
Future commission stuff; tentatively wanna say that I'll open back up on the 15th of September or abouts, if anybody's interested. Think I'm settling into a groove and more confident with what I can do, as well as ironing out prices and whatnot that are fair for what I produce and what can be generally afforded. I also have a few ideas that I wanna try out, so hopefully they'll kick off well enough when I drop the deal even though I'm keepin mum about what it is lol
Also gunning for a new high-end computer to push studies on 3D modeling and animation since my current computer's slowly starting to shut itself down like the poor animatronic Guardians of the Beam. Still looking for the perfect build for what I wanna do so I can know what to aim for monetary-wise, so sorta goin all-out lol
Also; awesome neighbors, area, free gym and pool. Things are alright! I wanna grill. I WANNA FRIGGIN GRILL!
lol You guys have a great weekend and enjoy the dogs days cuz the heat doesn't seem to be goin away for quite a while!

Popularity in the Fandom: From My Perspective
Posted 12 years agoHokay, so I came across a Journal posted here that, while having great things to say, was said in a rather base manner. Gonna run with it and talk about what I've picked up the... shit, it's July, so officially ten years of being around the Fandom. I guess this'll be rather long-winded, but direct and Realtalky, so here goes if you're down for the TL;DR. I'll also be breaking it up with periodic bulletpoints to kinda square up on the same page and give you a lil insight on how I see things... or how I want to see things and am still working on myself lol:
First off, I'll explain my opinion from experience on the dynamics of popularity, and how it can be a good thing, and a bad thing. Note that it extends beyond, but gonna keep it relevant so keeping within the bounds of the Fandom.
So, I got into Furry through myriad means (Kimahri Ronso and then werewolf porn), and for a year or so, I only knew, like, three, four people casually and built up through Yahoo Groups, IM and then DeviantArt. They pulled me in due to the fact that they were pretty cool, and at the time, I was also new to the Internet, so interacting with people all over was p swank shit.
I did do art, but a lot of it wasn't remarkable (skill-wise, though I do think I had some ambition back then that I wanna recollect lol), so nobody knew me as my "artist name" Silver Fenrir, they just knew me as Fen. I actually got a long with the people I came across, but there were, of course, some dicks that would even bluntly wonder why I was associated (at the time) with big name artists like Cooper, Strype and TiLL. I found it humorous that it mattered, was something new to me as well, so I ran with it, no fuss, no muss.
First Break
-- We are all like that; we all will find something on others that we want, whether it be friendship or not. It's human nature, and the sooner you understand this, the less angry you get when somebody flakes out or turns out to be a user.
-- Deep admiration should be earned, not given. You shouldn't automatically see somebody as a saint or a terrible person given a passive glance at somebody's life. Only if you have extensive knowledge and tangible evidence without much to dissuade a conclusion should you even do more than passively note on a person's characteristics.
-- That aside, initial impressions are fine, as long as you have a sense of chivalrous respect about you. Maybe it was a bad day for them, or maybe it was an extremely good day for them, you only know what little you see or hear, so no need to close the book and write your synopsis if you haven't turned a page.
-- Times change things. Sometimes it can change people as they grow, or deal with what they pick up through life. Accept that time changes things and be grateful for what good sticks throughout, even if it turns into a memory. Which leads to the next section...:
lol Okay, so Y!Gallery popped up and I was going through a rather tremulous personal period. The good of that lead to me drawing more porn, and I got ushered over to FA with the Infamous Furry Exodus with a few prominent artists, unexpectedly boosting my signal as an artist. Things started to change, where I started to get more involved with the Fandom, going to cons, meeting people through the sites, etc. And things changed, got a bit more real as I personally formed some new bonds and lost previous ones. I started to shun artists due to my misconception of what seemed to be the cliquey thing to do in the Fandom, even to the point of being abrasive and judgmental when I'd call artists on their mannerisms.
I did start to get more IMs though, meet more people. People started calling me "SF" instead of Fen, introducing me as "that artist guy" instead of Fen. Talkin about art and Furry artists instead of their life or interesting shit. People that shunned me didn't anymore, and some even saw me as a completely new person, shocked when I'd mentioned that we'd met before. But hey; no fuss, no muss.
Break Two
-- I have friends that are artists, but most are actually not. I go with what I can associate, and while it's cool to talk art shit every blue moon, it bores me to no end if it's just that. Same goes for somebody with that one topic they just won't leave alone.
-- I don't know if I consider myself as an artist. I like to do art, and I've been doing it a lot, but I wanna be known for being more than just some artist guy. Prolly why I'm still learning things I should have a firmer grasp on, but c'est la vie
-- On judging artists (or anybody actually): Not saying everybody I've come across, but a lot tend to have a weird social anxiety, or a "fight or flight" mentality when shit gets heavy. Many are socially awkward and can't handle the pressure of interaction (even if it can be admittedly painfully awkward and/or abrasive at times). While some can't handle their bubble of fame well and it does go to their head, some are actually nice once you understand that they're socially timid or defensive.
-- Not disclaiming that there aren't any dicks in the Fandom (artist or otherwise), fuck those guys. I mean, lookit me, total dickhead lol
So, now. There's a saturation of really solid artists in the Fandom now; names don't hold quite as much power as they once did, which is a good thing. People are being a bit more personal, social, and though there are some awkward points at times, it's a lot smoother socially than it once was. Granted, it's a lot more cynical in nature, negative at times, but also human nature lol
Good thing is that I'm back to being Fen again, or, rather, Rrowdy to some people, which is fine. People still know me through my art stuff (I mean, c'mon, this FA journal lol), but since I'm past my 15 minute bubble of fame, not nearly as many crazy IMs and interactions. Flipside of that is that some of the interaction, if anything, has been condescending since I can't offer what the now-more prominent artists can, and honestly, I guess I can't. Also get occasionally linked to dramas on Chanboards and Forums where people twist and embellish on aspects of my personal life in threads where my art pops up instead of being like STFU post the porn. I've even had people be flatout asinine simply because I have this mysterious clique and I'm "just a popufur artist" when I can definitely say that it hasn't really gotten me much socially, if not points of embarrassment. Shit sucks, but hey, it happens, and no fuss, no muss.
Speaking of ChanBoards, I'll prolly post a Journal on that later lol
Break Three
-- Don't label people. You might miss out on what they can actually offer 'you', not just what they generally offer.
-- In the end, mostly anything that's going wrong in you life can be traced back to your own decisions. Even if something's not directly your fault, just note what happens so that it doesn't happen again instead of bitching about it and doing nothing but living in the past. lol Trust me when I say that I know this as fact, and yes, it's sometimes very hard to overcome!
-- On the flipside, don't be afraid of getting hurt doing something similar to what got you down the first time (unless it's a 'really' dumb idea). Take better precaution before you try again. Just as bad as living in the past, you shouldn't use your pain as a shield to guard you from a potentially great future. Never stop taking chances. But never stop learning.
-- The Fandom itself is very "young". A lot of the people in it are there for gratuitous entertainment no matter how you slice it. Which is fine as long as you accept the truth of it and run with aspects that you like of it while respecting and neverminding aspects that you don't. Yes, there are awkward situations, and yes, it's oversexed, but so is the world, it's just more concentrated in such a small and rather surprisingly closely-knit community.
-- Respect! Negativity will come back to bite you on the ass, and people innately don't like negative people. If you feel like you're cool in a group talkin shit about others, note that those same people will do the same to you the minute you step out of line. I've said things out of anger quite a few times, hell, my Twitter's littered with random outbursts lol
-- Don't ever be That Guy.
-- Popularity just is. Either you're hot shit, or you're not. Sometimes it has to do with something you do, sometimes it baffles the masses on why and 'that' ends up being why you are. It can be skill, marketing, appeal, sheer luck, or a combination of. If you wanna be popular, wish I could offer more, but it's what I know.
-- Popularity is better for business or broadcasting. It actually sucks for personal life lol
-- Don't ever confuse popularity for love. It's not, and you'll seriously be in a world of hurt thinking so.
So, I guess that's my synopsis of what I've perceived. There are exceptions to the rule, and it's also just my perception based on my own path through the last ten years in the Fandom, and shit, before. Just keep in mind that things change, and there are always gonna be high and low points, not just in the Fandom, but throughout life.
Just run with it, have fun with it, live and learn, no fuss, no muss.
First off, I'll explain my opinion from experience on the dynamics of popularity, and how it can be a good thing, and a bad thing. Note that it extends beyond, but gonna keep it relevant so keeping within the bounds of the Fandom.
