Posted 6 hours agoHey folks. With how things are going, I'm closing commissions at this time. I will be traveling to Hartford, CT to prep for the new job over the next two weeks. If all goes well, I will be relocating there.

Posted a week agoOkay, I got a job offer earlier this week, which shocked me a bit. I agreed to the offer...
...and they needed a lot of info for a background check, then some documentation I had to gather and provide...
...and now they say the background check takes 10-14 days?!? And I start at the end of the month?!?
I didn't have this mess 11-ish years ago. Granted, I understand why they're asking for it (North Korea stealing remote work jobs, been all over the news). I just wish I've been told about it in documentation so I could plan around it better.

Moving house
Posted 2 months agoHaving to deal with job searching and moving house, moving into my sister's house until I get employed again. Things are delayed.
I'll probably open commissions later on once I'm moved. Leaving a lot of stuff behind... but mom and dad were a bit of a packrat.

When I met Tugrik in person, it was I think Anthrocon, one of the early ones I've attended. He was big in life as he was in character. Sad to hear that he was having issues dating back since then, but I think last time I saw him, he was getting better. It's been too long since I bumped into big blue.
Online, it was FurryMUCK, where I virtually met a lot of characters.

I so wanted to go up there and attend it myself in the future (well, once things were stable and I had a passport and VISA and such to visit Toronto). Now...
No. Not until there's a clean sweep of administration of Furnal Equinox. It is VERY apparent that the organization culture allows for such a mess to occur. I will not go. It is not worth the money.
If your platform of "free speech" restricts it beyond general cultural norms and violates the social contract, then your platform is invalid. I doesn't matter if it's online or offline. It's not free (as in speech). It's free-as-in-beer, and the hangover has already started.
...and I'm the one who would rather see what the *!)@#$*( is going on first!
I'll just have to wait until things get better in order to go to Fran's and get some real poutine...

Okay, first of all, the age of joke tags is over. It's time you go through and clean up your submissions.

Needless to say, life could be better. Still looking for a new job. Still need to deal with dad's estate. Still need to empty out the house, donate clothing and shoes to relevant places, and in general de-clutter it so it can be sold.
It's time to move on.

wolfkidd (post), RJ Bartrop has passed away.
I have not met him personally, but I will say a few words -- he definitely influenced one of my characters, Yukon. Yukon's in-concert outfit is inspired by one of his early pieces. I don't know how well he took it when I asked him to draw Yukon, admitting the inspiration.

Grab a copy of your local newspapers. They should be printing a voters guide that summarizes all the policy positions of all the candidates. Lots of news agencies have also posted research online. Do not trust social media like X/Twitter, Facebook, Truth, Bluesky, etc -- social media knows nothing on everything.

On dad's passing
Posted a year agoFirst of all, thank you all for condolences and reaching out to me for support through this difficult time. It means a lot. I do have my older sister and some of the extended family.
Right now, there's some cleanup tasks to do. I need to hit up the nursing home one last time today to pick up one last bag of personal items. After that, I will need to sort through them, pull out the tablets and such, and go through them. I have a spare Nintendo Switch Lite, a Samsung Chromebook, a 7" iPad, and a Kindle that I'll need to clean out. I have his cell phone to disable after I shut down some accounts of his.
I've put in for an autopsy, namely because mom never got one (despite even the hospital wanting to do it but got rejected, right before the pandemic lock-downs). I owe the family that, even though there's enough evidence to point to a cause (the pneunomia he caught). It'll make me feel better that at least *some* process has been followed. I've always thought an autopsy would be performed in tragic situations. Afterwards, the body will be cremated.
Over the next few months I'll be going through his clothing, bagging it up and sending it out for donations. Gotta try and clean out the house a lot now. I now gotta straighten out the financials.
All while job hunting.

Dad died today, aged 75
Posted a year agoIt is with sad regret and morbid duty that I have to announce that my father passed away around 1pm Eastern today, October 10th, 2024.
I've always regarded 75 years old as the absolute "You made it" point in someone's life. Where you have paid your dues. Anything more is gravy. It's time to relax, enjoy life, pontificate, etc. Sadly, he only got eight months of that in a rehab facility.
There's a lot of cleanup to do now.
Mom's probably kicking his ass up where they are now.

Posted a year agoAs of Aug 13th, 2024 at 12 noon, I am no longer employed. The company I've been with for over 8 years has let me go. This was due to a combination of bad timing and chaotic nature of the business.
And I'm burnt out.
I'm taking the rest of the week to recover. I am being paid for the rest of my time plus PTO, and next month is already covered via the severance package. My (old) boss is putting out feelers, as well as my (old) team lead, for programming jobs, but I will be hitting the job market soon.
Commissions will be picked back up during this time, now that I actually have free time. I just got to get back in proper headspace.
Hugs appreciated.

I will not repeat the platitudes and memories that others have shown. The feeling is mutual. My only interaction with him was at Anthrocon many years ago, short and brief. It looked like he needed a breather from the Controversy Of The Day, so I let him be.
That said, I want to turn to FA's future. Scroll all the way down. You see that the footer? "Frost Dragon Art LLC", the company that owns FA. Dragoneer didn't directly own the site but put it into a company.
What next happens is best quoted from lawyer Buddy Goodboy Esq (not that Buddy):
FurAffinity is owned by Frost Dragon Art, LLC. If they had multiple members, or had a transfer-on-death provision in their operating agreement, ownership changes hands immediately and with no problems. Otherwise, it goes through probate to determine, according to Neer’s will, who would own it.
Nothing’s happening immediately regardless. An administrator will be appointed for Dragoneer’s estate, whose duty is to maintain all property pending investigation into what needs to happen next. Nothing is going anywhere.
So lets give the admins and family time to grieve and gather themselves. If you haven't backed up your FA, it may be a good time to do so.
