ZBrush4 Trial Now Available!
Posted 14 years agoI got an e-mail the other day from a Pixologic associate informing me that they have now released an official ZBrush4 Trial Version!

No ZBrush Trial?
Posted 15 years agoI'm a bit surprised. I contacted Pixologic and was informed there is NO trial version available for ZBrush4. His offer: Buy it, and if you don't like it within 30 days you can get a refund.
...Yea, I'm a bit of a slow learner, I don't think that'd be long enough for me to learn it. :(

I need a legit copy of ZBrush
Posted 15 years agoSeriously. I want to learn this program: IF it proceeds in the manner I'm expecting (And I'm sure it will) it'll quickly become MORE of the #1 3D program. Not only because of that, but It only has ONE issue I don't like, which I can get over being an issue once I learn to use it properly.
I've got no way to get the app and the trial wouldn't last long enough for me to use it to learn with.
(To be honest I'm a slow learner.)

Necklace Cords: What to use?
Posted 15 years agoI've got the pendents I'm making, and I've got several new designs I'll be trying to make to sell. Problem I'm having is -- what do I put them on?
I would like to put them on something people would be happy to wear, like braided leather cords, but I'm not finding them cheap enough to make including one economical. At the price I'm selling the pendents for I wouldn't make a cent!
I'd rather not go up on the price of the pendents to include the cost of the cords, but I hate the prospect of selling a pending to someone who doesn't have a necklace to put them on. (I would also feel silly trying to sell a cord for nearly the cost of the pendents themself.)
Any suggestions on what I can use? I'd like to find something thick enough that it doesn't look like string. :P

People can't draw Unusual Anatomy! (IE: ME!)
Posted 15 years agoSooo.. I've been getting some more commissions I paid for finished/ coming in recently.
It seems people can't draw my character. O.o'
Seriously. I respect the artists I've commissioned; after all, I commissioned them because their style is really cute or realistic (my fav!)
I even stepped up before the last few and got an excellent set of references made up for them to use.
Before people just drew my character as a kangaroo, and I think thats because of my name.
Now that I have a reference people draw my character as a lion thing or... something completely different and far from my characters body shape. X-D
I figured with a reference people would get close.
With this trend should I even try to commission any one else? O.O'

Going to FWA, AWA, MFM, or RCFM?
Posted 15 years agoAnyone going to FWA, AWA, MFM, or RCFM?
I'd like to attend these cons but it seems those I roomed with last year already got their rooms filled.
If you are planning on attending any of these cons and have a spare space (need one more person out of 4 or 5 in a room, Thurs through Sun (3 nights)) please let me know!
I would like to note I am not a "party all night" person: I'd like to room with people who are not planning on having room parties. I tend to go to sleep about 12 to 1AM. I think this is why I wasn't asked to room with the others again. :P

PATHTAGS: TRADE!
Posted 15 years agoI'm limiting trading of my tag to 10 tags, primarily to get them out there and in peoples eyes (read: advertising.)
If you have a pathtag you have created and would like to trade, I have 5 tags left for trading!
http://www.pathtags.com/community/p.....e.php?id=14936
I am primarily seeking tags depicting Tribal / Aboriginal designs and mythological beings, but don't let that stop you from offering a trade!

Christmas List/ Wishlist
Posted 15 years agoChristmas List/ Wishlist
1: Full body Comission from
vantid
2: Full body Comission from
silverone
3: Full body Comission from
nimrais
4: Comission from
Venigsun (doesn't seem to do Full body pics)
5: Hotel room cost covered for FWA, MFM, RCFM, OR AC (with no "strings"/ conditions attached. One would be nice, any one of them!)
6: God-Level Sponsorship for FWA
7: Wacom Cintiq. By the gods I want one of these!
8: Anything from my Amazon wishlist: http://amzn.com/w/1J9Z8D3T0HK6O
9: Samsung Galaxy Tab or the upcoming Motorola's 10-inch Honeycomb tablet (Stingray, Everest or even potentially "Trygon.") I'm doubting I'll ever get a smart phone because of their $80 monthly cost, but these should carry a $25- $35 "3G/4G" only service cost.
10: Extended Cargo van (haha, I wish!)
I know I'm dreaming, but it'd be nice. I could've put things like paying off my $10k debt or a full college scholarship (late to the party) but those are quite unrealistic.
I think the commissions of my character WildRoo (references in scraps) is what I'd like the most, primarily because its personal (not to mention they're cheaper then the rest! )

New York Comic Con Furries!
Posted 15 years agoWoW-- Worgen!... nope, and due to that: no thanks.
Posted 15 years agoSooo... I downloaded Wow: Its the generic vanilla version and though I understand that its 4+ years old, it seemed like they were updating the game to fit into the new Cataclysm world setting.
Here's the thing: I wanted to try WoW because of the Worgen race, its what finally drew me to it. Now, I understand they didn't add the new race, but the whole thing looks like it was made 8 years ago. I've played browser based MMO's (EarthEternal) that had equal quality graphics, and that was a free game.
Now after speaking to a friend I understand the area I'm in has not been updated and that to get to anything thats been updated I have to pay for Wrath of the Litch King ($10) and Cataclysm ($40). Since I've already started the free trial this means I would also have to pay $15 for the first month of service.
So, to try to play the game as a Worgen in an area thats been updated within 4 years it'll cost me $65. After paying that I would only be able to HOPE I like the game.
Sadly, I think I'll pass. :(

FWA PLANNING
Posted 15 years agoI would LIKE to attend FWA, but to do so I'd have to start planning it out now.
To help reduce cost (and because its within a 4 hour drive) I would only be there Thursday night through Sunday.
Room Cost
$446 (inc tax) Thursday night through Sunday (checkout Sunday morning.)
4 people = $112 each
5 people = $90 each
Con Cost
Attending: $40.00 preregistered, $45.00 at the door
God-Level Sponsoring: $160.00 preregistered, $180.00 at the door
(I post God-Level because you actually seem to get your moneys worth with this option!)
I'm in hopes that some local furs would like to room with me, but there's some on the net I know would be good for it too. :)
ROOM NOTE: It Doesn't matter how many of those days you will be there or not: the TOTAL price is shared; the price will not be split on a "per night" basis. Also, this will NOT be a party room; the room is so people have a place to go to rest at night, not to go and be kept awake by strangers in the room gettin drunk.

The Devil is in the Details...
Posted 15 years agoSo, I've been looking at http://furry4life.org/group/furryhabitat/forum and locals who know me know I've thought of doing this myself on a smaller basis (10 apartments.)
With consideration and depending on the size, you could build 10 apartments for under $150k. Each person could OWN their apartment within three to five years. ( $417 to $250 a month respectably.) These would be 2 br "condos."
The scope being presented on that site is HUGE in comparison, with plans being stated for up to 300 people OR buying an existing apartment complex for up to Five Million Dollars.
It's an interesting idea; I'll certainly be watching to see what comes from it.

FURSONAS: If we were them, would we be the same?
Posted 15 years agoWhat exactly does your fursona look like?
Is it fat, slim, thin limbs, muscular?
Now, how close are you to what your fursona looks like? Are you relatively the same weight as your character, or is your character 150 lbs while you're 250+? Is your character muscular or well toned but you can barely lift 50 lbs on a bar? Or perhaps the opposite: Is your character obese while you're a featherweight?
I know people are going to pop on here saying "my character is a 20 foot dragon!" or something similar: Despite this, your character is still slim, muscular, fat, obese, etc. How close are you to that? (And for arguments sake, lets just say the comparison is as if you have an anthro character, not a feral character. )
I can't help but fathom: what would we do if we all woke up looking like out characters? Would we live the same lifestyle we have for the past X years of our lives or would we suddenly decide to keep the body shape we have gained and do what it takes to keep it up?
And as things are now: if you're NOT like your character, why not? Whats preventing you from getting buffed up like your character? Whats stopping you from changing your lifestyle to fit that of your character: the type of life and body that you're dreaming of having?
What kind of environment does your character live in? Are they city slickers or county lovers? Do they embrace the wilds of the woods or the bustling of a busy street? Do they go to the opera or sing at music festivals?
And how often do you do these things or visit these settings yourself?
I've always been curious on this; please tell me how close or similar you are to what you imagine yourself being!

(Please post the title in your journal and send people here to respond; I'd love to hear as many peoples opinions on this as possible!)

MIDWEST FURFEST UPDATE
Posted 15 years agoRegretfully I will NOT be attending: I wasn't sure if I could before and the people I was going to go with never confirmed they were going to go.
Now that we're in the same month as the con with no one else confirming and the fact that I've lost my job I don't think its economically feasible for me to go. As much as I'd love to attend and meet other furs there, I'll have to miss out. :(
I hope everyone who is going gets to have a good time. :)

Being Picky on Character Design
Posted 15 years agoI've been playing on and off with my character model for about a week now, and its getting to a much better point of matching whats in my mind compared to my old model which was too cartoony for my tastes.
The big question is at what point should I say "OK, this is good enough"?
I think I could sit here for nights on end revamping my own character model to look more and more like what I've got in mind, then change it to look better for appearance, then change it to look more anatomically (structurally) correct.
As an example: I've always drawn my character with cheek tufts, but they kinda look silly when done in 3D. So, I removed them... then added them back but with less length and less width.
Then I'm back to the nose. Then redo the muscles around the hip. Then back on the nose. I've done this a couple hours each night for the past week.
Is anyone else this picky about their own character designs or is it just because this character has little to no base in the real world?

What a bad habit!
Posted 15 years agoI popped in to watch
Poulet-7 livestream for a moment and what do I do? I click on the livestream window and try to zoom in to take a closer look at his model. XD
I swear I do this with ANY 3d program I see when watching a video.
I'm going to try to get back to redoing my character model tomorrow night, then get back to a couple of items I'm going to have made into objects. :)

WTF Midwest Furfest RESERVATION?!
Posted 15 years agoJust looked at my desktop and found a PDF for a room reservation at the main hotel for Midwest Furfest.
I totally forgot I booked it.O.o
...Apparently I booked it back on 2/3/2010 for Thurs- Sun night (4 nights).
It's a 10 hour drive to get there, so we would definitely have to leave Thurs morning and come back EARLY Mon morning.
If we get 4 people sharing the room the cost per person on that is $124 each for the room.
HOWEVER, taking 3 days off work costs me $260+ just by missing work, so the ACTUAL cost of going to this one would be $384 + gas and food.
That cost is around a week of work alone, and with 7 Birthdays and and Christmas coming up I'm not sure I can afford that.

Back from MFM! Oklacon no go, MFF?, and more!
Posted 15 years agoHad fun at MFM; I caught con crud Sunday however, and felt horrible all day Monday. Still feel bad, but am @ work getting my job done.
Now on when I got cons I'll take hand sanitizer, just in case. Think I caught this from someone sitting behind me in the closing ceremonies though.
I got a commission from the Faux Pas (Fox Paus) comic artist, Dae, and another that I can't recall offhand (sorry, will update when I get home!)
I honestly need to redo my characters reference sheet before I do anymore though, as most people can't seem to get it's head/ body shape right. I can understand why however, as it isn't based off a particular fixed species shape as most peoples' characters are. (hence most people simply go off a kangaroos body.)
===
I've decided to cancel my trip to Oklacon because I won't have any items to take with me due to the production issues and and my cousin is going to be having his wedding on Oct 31st.
Hopefully next year Oklacon won't land on Oct. 31st: thats a buisy holiday for me!
===
I'm not sure if I'll make it to MFF: I don't have a room reserved and the time I have to take off work would be 3 days which would cost me around $260 just by not being there.
This means the total cost for me to go would be around $425 (if the hotel room is shared with 3 other people for 4 nights.) Thats quite a bit of money!
===
I WISH I could make it to Further Confusion in January; it's going to be Aussie themed (right up my alley) and I'm sure there'll be allot of roo related things there, but no way could I afford the plane trip, room, and entry fee all together!
===
I've decided to try my hand at limited jewelry making along with the figures. Now that I've ironed out a few of the production issues I hope to get things on track!

I'll disclose the results in one month.
Edit Note:
This poll is primarily to get an idea of what the fandom is willing to do over what the artist/ programmers are willing to do it for. The info is not just for me, but a few other people I know who have considered a similar idea.
