I will miss her.
Posted 9 years agoAfter being with us for 7 years, our girl Bianca has passed. She was such a good dog, and a beautiful girl. She will always be in our hearts, but we will miss her greeting us when we got home.
Orlando Nerd Fest
Posted 11 years agoWent to nerdfest today and saw some great acts. Professor Shyguy was pretty cool, and I loved the music of The Doubleclicks. Not to mention the visual kei band Vivid. Ultimately though, we, like many others there, were at the con for Steam Powered Giraffe. Which was awesome.
Running.
Posted 12 years agoI've registered for a half marathon this January! Yay. So now I'm training my ass off to try and prepare for it. Already I'm seeing some improvement in my runs, maybe I'll see some nice improvement in my body too.
Two doggies!
Posted 12 years agoI have just adopted a second dog. He's 8 years old and quite large. He's a white shepherd like Bianca is, only more of a cream tone and weighs more than she does at 95lbs of stocky boy. His name is Sam and we hope he and B will get along ok. They already seem to like each other, so far so good.
LOL

Lots of Free time.
Posted 14 years agoOk, the bike trouble isn't over yet. Fixed the compression but I still have that lovely rattle. Think its a rod bearing. Oh joys. This means getting to the bottom of the engine.
I have only 1 job right now, and hours for it are probably going to be slim. I've applied to a third job. LegoLand. Should be loads of fun I'm sure, except that it's a long ways from here, and well see Above!

Lol its worse
Posted 14 years agoWell it wasn't the plugs, rattle continued after bike warmed up again, feels completely robbed of power. Checked cam chain tension and valve clearance, all good and set now, but compression is SHIT. 95lbs on the cyl making the noise. Its coming from the bottom of the engine. I think I lost a ring... Poopie. So now I have to tear the engine apart and replace the rings.
Not as bad as expected
Posted 14 years agoWell now, bike problems all fixed. One forum post and an answer later, the troubles are gone. Makes me feel a bit stupid, but hey, I'm learning. So the rattle, loose spark plug. Which caused the other issues involved with the engine. Clutch cable, didn't break, just popped the actuator assembly, got it back together now and working right. Now to adjust the clutch so it isn't slipping. Victory is mine. :D
Just when it gets good...
Posted 14 years agoAlways seems to work this way, fix one thing and the very next day another issue rears its ugly head. So my bike started making a little extra racket out of the left cylinder today. This included some movement in the corresponding spark plug. I haven't had the chance to pull anything and look since I just now finished walking it home. Man I never noticed how many hills Florida has until I'm pushing 300+lbs of weight after a long day of work. Anyways, when running the engine feels sluggish like the clutch is slipping, and the rattle/vibration intensifies with higher RPMs. Eventually though the bike acts as though out of gas an slows to a stop, leaving me on the side of the highway cursing the morons who try to run me over (but they do that no matter how fast I'm moving.) The following changes were made prior to this problem rearing its ugly head today. 1) New Rectifier/Regulator. 2) New Handlebars. 3) Mirrors... (obviously the reason for this problem!!!) 4) New Ignition Points. I'm just hoping I didn't break a valve or something. Really don't have the money or time to do a tear-down of the engine. So I'm hoping for... I dunno something retarded, like timing being off, or maybe a busted plug. Oh yeah, and I broke the clutch cable on the way home.... YAY.
Made in Germany

Posted 14 years ago"New" Bike
Posted 14 years agoI haven't told y'all. I got a second bike. '92 Vulcan 500. So far all it's done is given me headaches, sometimes literally. It wont start, for a few reasons. 1) Dead battery. 2)Stuck Clutch 3) No idea?!
I pulled the starter out of it to give it a once over and test. Works alright. So put it back in and attempt to start. Wow it does more than it used to. When I first got it all it would do was click, even when being jumped. After pulling apart the starter and putting it back together, it at least attempts to crank. I also unstuck the clutch so at least I can attempt to push it. Fucker weighs a lot though compared to my bare-bones KZ. When trying to jump start it now (after clutch and starter have gone through their basic "repairs") it acts like typical dead battery, half ass attempt at cranking and then it stops. While I was re-installing the starter I noticed something very... interesting under the left side engine cover. Little balls of magnetic material, sticking to whatever surface they could. I quickly discovered the source of these balls, one of the magnets for the generator flywheel "no longer exists" except as tiny pieces that have lumped together. JOY! I did a little reading and found this is a common issue for Vulcans of that era. Well fuck. Few issues there... 1) The part isn't made anymore. 2) Even if it was, It's almost $400. Since I got the bike for $0.00 I really don't feel like dropping that kind of money on it. Besides I probably couldn't sell the old bitch for that much.

Can't stop can't stop!!
Posted 14 years agoLast week I discovered an inability of my front brakes to provide me with any stopping power whatsoever. What's the first thing you think of when you can't stop? The brake fluid. So I made an attempt to check it. Well the master cylinder/reservoir cover screws stripped. Probably because they haven't been removed since the bike was made in '79. While trying to remove the screws, I damaged the cover, and tore the diaphragm. When I got in to the MC, I saw almost no brake fluid and lots of sludge. Put new fluid in attempted to repair the cover and bleed the old gunk out... Brakes still weren't grabbing. So off to find new brake cylinder. Ended up ordering one online. Found it on E-bay, brand new, $53 bucks won the auction. Fuck yeah. So I have a new brake master. Installed it, put in fresh fluid, still wont stop. While I had the whole thing torn down I decided to take a look at my brake pads... bare metal. FUCK. So I have the pads on the way, and spend money I didn't NEED to spend, but at least I have a new master, reservoir and lever, I'll up pics later.
A Message to all...
Posted 14 years agowho ride on my ass! Drafting behind a motorcycle is not effective, and unless you want a 15mm open ended wrench through your windshield, I suggest you BACK THE FUCK OFF! I have plenty of cheap ass wrenches to throw and I'd like to see you ID me when I disappear behind your spiderwebed windshield and take off like a bat outta hell. ALSO! After it's done raining, the road is STILL wet. Just because the sun is out doesn't mean you can return to driving like a fucking moron. It's probably not a good idea to rush up on someone and then slam your breaks when your tires are going to lock and send you sliding into them. Just thought I'd let you know. Thank you and have a good fucking day.

Rain sucks.
Posted 14 years agoI'm done with the state of Florida. This constant rain is killing me. I can't stand it. Just when my last set of clothes gets dry I get em soaked again. Even more fun is the idiots that drive around me, and my lack of traction. I laid down the KZ today. Good thing she's a resilient little bike. Was about 5-10 minutes from home, right in the midst of a monsoon. I saw traffic ahead was stopped, pulled the front, not slowing fast enough, pressed the rear OMG PAVEMENT. Slid for a good hundred feet. I was concerned my bike and I weren't going to stop before hitting the car in front of us, so I grabbed at it and dug my feet into the road. Stopped in time. My knee is a bit sore from where it caught my tank and saved it from a nice scratchy ride down the surface of Orange Ave. Other than the knee shaped dent and some minor scratches on already trashed surfaces, no damage noticed. I'll need to check later when its less wet out.
It should end.
Posted 14 years agoIsn't it bad enough that everyone on the outside is looking to hurt us. Why do we feel the need to hurt each other. We all have different hobbies, fetishes, interests, styles, and "species," but we are all part of the same community. Just quit it already. Everyone, from every sub-group, just stop. There is no sense in behaving like this, and no reason that I should have to tell a group of (mostly) adult individuals to stop acting like elementary school bullies. GROW UP.
Owch.
Posted 14 years agoMy Ego. It hurts. My big toe and elbow a bit too, but nothing near as bad as the $2200 in damages done to a bike that wasn't even mine. I went to a Triumph Demo day and hopped on a sexy little 2011 Thruxton. I shoulda got right off it when the ride position felt a bit unusual to me, but I figure if this is the style of bike I want, I need to get comfortable riding it. We start off. One right turn into the back road. Four way stop, look, look, go OMG PAVEMENT. At the time I had no idea what I did wrong, I thought maybe the bike got away from me, being a bigger 900cc. I thought maybe I dropped the clutch too fast. Looking back on it. I know exactly what happened. I had my foot on the rear brake. When I hit the rain channel between the streets, bounced into that pedal and locked the rear. Flop!
Damages: Snapped the right footpeg, scratched up the Arrow Exhaust, scratched the chrome on the mirror and front brake lever, and scratched the front fairing. The person who can tell me what costs the most wins a free drawing of a bashed up wolf.

Victory is mine.
Posted 14 years agoYou know that feeling you get when you make something work? Add that to the sensation of riding two wheels, and you have what I'm experiencing right now. So that Motorcycle I bought back on New Years Day, works. I finally got it fixed. After fighting narrowing it down to an ignition problem (no spark in the plugs). I worked through the system, finding where the problem could be. Checked grounds, checked voltage, checked spark plugs, Boots, Coil, Condenser and points. Well guess what. It was the last of that set. The points were in pretty piss poor shape and not allowing enough voltage across to charge the first winding in the coil. So 1 month and 9 days later, I get my new breaker points and install. SPARK! Woo woo! Of course by this time I've drain the poor battery of all her juice. So I need a jump. Nothing wont start. Well you need 3 things to have fire. Air, Fuel and Ignition. I had Ignition. So lets check Fuel. The gas in the tank had been sitting for awhile so lets put in some new gas. Gas in and on. Ignition go... Nothin. Well lets take a look at those carbs and check the fuel line to make sure it isn't pinched. Oh fuel line's pinched. Gas on... Oh god it's everywhere!! GAS OFF GAS OFF! Ok... why is it leaking out the front of the carb.... Oh Because some dumbass connected the fuel line to the vacuum hose for the carb. Gas in the right place, gas on, ingition.... dead battery.... Well this baby has a kick start. KICK KICK KICK KICK BRROOOM POP POP... KICK KICK KICK KICK KICK BRooom pop... Hmmm... Fuel On, CHOKE, Ignition. KICK KICK BROOOOOOOOOOOOMMM!!!!!
So for the short version. YAY!!!!! I HAVE A WORKING MOTORCYCLE!
