Phoenix Rebellion
A Star-Fox based game.
"The Lylatian Military Fleet is recruiting new members in light of imminent civil war between the colonized planets and interstellar star systems under the blanket of the Lylatian Federation. You will be offered training, accommodations, and salaried pay in accordance to your stature and proffession within our storied organization of military forces. Come join the rest of the brave men and women responsible for keeping the galaxy safe for all Lylatians, and be a part of something greater!"
~end standard recruiting advertisement, showing plenty of starships, everyday men and women in uniform, and a sense of the scope of the galaxy-spanning starfleet that makes up Lylat's military away from home.~
Notes about the game, in brief:
(S) This game takes place roughly a thousand years or more after the events that took place in the video game series (The Androssian Wars). Knowledge of Star-Fox Canon is not required to play, and direct descendants of series mainstays are likewise not allowed (indirect descendants are possible but only on GM discretion).
(T) The peoples of Corneria and Lylat in general have spread out to the stars, using technology left over by the mad scientist Andross to advance their mutual species in the years following the war. Many new star systems have been discovered and subsequently colonized. These star systems are linked through a series of "Gravity Gates" or "Warp Gates" that 'bend' unoccupied space between star systems gravitationally, effectively shortening the time/distance required to travel between them. The Gate linking to Lylat has been offline for something close to 100 years, and the actual location of the Lylat system was lost in an accidental data purge when the Gate linked to it tried to automatically reestablish connection with it's twin in Lylat. The catastrophic equipment failure effectively marooned the Children of Lylat in their own Federation of Star Systems, which has since been developing independently of their home. This event is referred to as the Lylat Blackout. She's still out there somewhere, but where is anyone's guess.
Full list of stellar systems and their planets can be found here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4345175/ (Yes, this will be a new hub group for the game.)
(A) The game is intended to be a semi-structured group roleplay that meets once a week for serious play. The tone of the game is serious, with mature and adult themes. Imagine a Star-Fox game with darker, more mature overtones, sort of like Mass Effect, and you'll have the general idea. Adult situations can/will happen but the focus of the game is narrative, not kink. Players who are unable to take the game seriously will be removed from play.
(R) I'm initially shooting for play over IRC on FurNet at #PR. We will be meeting at 6pm EST (American Eastern) on Saturday. I don't know what this is for you, but you don't have to be exactly on time. Games I hope to run for about 2-3 hours or until the majority of the players bow out for the night.
(F) The game is structured around a loose D20 system. If you don't have dice you can use electronic dice rollers or random number generators. The idea is that a player will roll a D20 against an event or NPC in which the variable of success or failure is high (such as shooting down a fighter, disarming a bomb, knocking out an enemy combatant or succeeding at karaoke). The person with the highest number in their roll is favored in the outcome, with the difference between the two numbers marking how big of a success or failure takes place.
(O) Character death will occur, and sometimes it will come down to arbitrary luck. To help combat this, I'm giving each player Five (5) "credit coins" to be used similarly to "continues" in a video game. A coin can be expended to do one of two things: Re-roll for an event, or re-write an outcome (basically tell me what you want to have happen and we can compromise). Narrative is important; I'm not out to kill your PC's, though this is war, and sometimes an untimely death can contribute to the story. Coins can also be used on other players and NPC's, but be careful not to run out of them! These five coins will last you through a single mission, and at the end of the mission your coin total will reset to five.
(X) Last but not least, have fun! I'm here to work with my players and hope to foster connections between your various characters as they work together for the benefit of their fellow Lylatians. To that end (promoting working together) I am only making available the following career choices to choose from: PILOT, MARINE, TACTICAL OFFICER, SUPPORT OFFICER (OFFICER classes are multi-role individuals who have specialized functions in star cruisers and other ships requiring multiple personnel to operate, in addition to other duties they may sometimes be called upon to do). Within these classes, you are welcome to specialize in whatever you want, within reason. For example, if you want, your character can be a sniper, mechanic, medic, mechanized support soldier, gunner, technician, engineer, ect.
Please PM
StarFox_RPG with your character profiles. I look forward to working with you towards a fun game for everyone.
Restrictions:
Avians (Allowed, though not too many can be in the game as most species of avians are nearly extinct in the game.)
Psychics/Psionics/Supernatural (Allowed but only on a case by case basis. These things exist, but are naturally going to be somewhat rare.)
Direct descendants of Star-Fox canon characters (Absolutely not allowed. Indirect descendants are possible, but I'd have to review them first).

A Brief History (G)
Lylatian History up to the point of the game, starting from what you know in the video games.
Star-Fox Era
Genius scientist and inventor Andross Oikonny is a nuclear physicist researching experimental particle fusions in a nuclear facility located in Cervia (Cornarian equivalent of Russia).
An explosion is triggered that destroys a major Cervian city and kills a huge number of people. Cervian investigators blame the explosion on Andross upon the discovery he was conducting questionable research on bio-organics off the record. Andross, a survivor of the explosion, is taken into state custody.
Because of certain debts owed by government officials, the Cervian government's hands are tied, and cannot outright prosecute Andross for his crime. Andross is turned over to the global government custody through Natherica (Cornerian equivalent of America), and both countries reach an agreement on Exile.
Andross Oikonny is Exiled to [Venom], then believed to be the most remote planet in the Lylat system. The relative youth of space travel and colonization ensures that he will remain isolated.
(+10 years) The Cornerian Space Institute records a number of changes over the next ten years to [Venom's] ecosystem, as the planet becomes increasingly toxic and inhospitable. Believing that Andross is continuing to conduct his research in violation of Exile agreements, a team of military pilots is sent to run reconaissance. The team consists of James McCloud, Pigma Dengar, and Peppy Hare. Only Peppy returns.
Peppy's report that Andross is building an army in secret is not believed, and Peppy is dismissed from Active duty. A moratorium against traveling to [Venom] is instilled. The planet becomes so toxic as to be declared inhospitable to life, and is renamed Venom.
(+5 years) Andross declares himself Emperor of the entire Lylat system and launches his army against Corneria. The Lylatian Military Fleet (LMF) fails to stem the assault. When Corneria itself is attacked, Peppy forms a team of mercenary pilots with James' son, Fox, to help defend Corneria, with some success.
The Star-Fox team is then commissioned by the Natherican military on behalf of the global community, to lead a counter-assault against Venom. After battling through Andross's loyal followers entrenched within the various planets of Lylat, A meager assault force makes it through. Star-Fox spearheads the attack, and Andross is supposedly killed.
(+5 years) Andross's nephew, Andrew Oikonny, assumes the mantle of Emperor and gains control of the remainder of the forces loyal to his Uncle, along with much of the leftover technology. Andrew is confronted during his initial attack on Fortuna by Star-Fox, and killed.
(+10 years) A new planet just off orbit is discovered, and Star-Fox is sent to investigate. Fox returns with a new team-member in the mysterious Krystal and tales of intelligent dinosaurs. A science and peace expedition finds the planet barren. The Star-Fox team returns to the new planet, now known as Sauria, to investigate, and never returns.
Colonization Era:
(+20 years) Technology left behind by Andross contributes to Lylat's technological growth. Gates are made that enable interstellar travel, and one is built in Lylat in anticipation of it's twin eventually being built in another system entirely. To this end, an expedition sets out for the nearest closest star system believed to have colony supporting planets.
(+150 years) The expedition reaches the Xavaria system, and a gate is established, linking back to Lylat to allow instantaneous travel. Colonies are founded on every life-capable world in the system.
(+50 years) The Lylat system's gate stops working, cutting off Xavaria from interstellar travel back to Lylat and all communication from Lylat ceases. A computer error caused by an unforseen bug in the program running the gate causes the location of Lylat to become permanently lost.
(+40 years) The other star systems are discovered, and further colonies are established. The people of Lylat flourish, multiply, and prosper. Technologies are refined.
The Hepasut War Era:
The Hepasut system is discovered. A gate is built and a fledgling colony is established there. The colonists discover that the planet is already inhabited by the Hepan peoples. The colonists are enslaved.
The Lylatian Military Fleet attempts to free the colonists, but fails, sparking a war.
The Hepas aliens sweep genocide throughout the Lylatian colonies, believing that the Lylatians are pests and that their existence is a galactic accident.
(+30 years) Millions upon millions die in a series of inter-system fights as the Hepas learn how to use the Lylatian network of linked interplanetary systems. After nearly three decades of cat-and-mouse, the Lylatians muster enough force to attack Hepasut in an all-out assault. The Hepasutian ruling class, directly threatened, call for a cease in the conflict.
Today:
Dissatisfied with the power the LMF wields in the years following the war with the Hepas, stirrings of resentment are felt throughout the colonies...
