I think it went pretty well for my first poem.

Rejection

More than anything,
We fear rejection.
It’s cold clutches can seize us.
With but a single word

Those who live in its arms
Freeze and cage their hearts.
Never letting anyone in.

They have felt it so many times.
It has left them barren.
It is an evil thing.
Resulting in…
No one ever being able to comfort them again.

They try to live with others.
Try to blend in.
But they know,
They are different.
They can’t ever again fit in.

With their lives so fragile.
They try just once more.
Just to try. In hope. In need.
Then, when they are once again turned away.
Their life thread snaps.
They are no longer with us.
