I did some new techniques with this painting--I'm really feeling backgrounds right now AAH
I started grey scale then color, which I normally don't do. I'll have to test around with grey scale versus color from the start more to see which I feel works out more.
Pretty happy to be doing something new here : )

I know I don't comment on a lot of your work, but I just wanted to say how much improvement I see in this picture. I feel like your backgrounds are getting more detailed and have more depth; and the lightening is lovely on the male character, and on the forest behind the building.
Sorry if this was random ^ ^' but Im just so happy to see you improving, because I love your art~

JO OH MY GOD HOW DO YOU BACKGROUND. FUUUU
YOU'RE FABULOUS OKAY LIKE I WANT TO VICIOUSLY RIP MY SHIRT OFF AT THIS LMFAO
The detail, the perspective, the colours I just ....ahhhhh I cannot right now. I just don't know what to say anymore. I'll just stare, get inspired and try to background myself. //wheezes

Yes!
I painted this all in greyscale first, then I overlayed colors on it.
This is what it looked like before color, for example: http://sta.sh/01rpfgryag0u

I'm not sure if it's more work or not.
It's easier to paint things in greyscale, cuz you don't have to worry about how the colors interact. You just gotta make sure the values are right. Putting color on after is very quick and easy. While the painting took, idk, 11-12 hours to do? Putting the colors on took maybe 1.
It would probably be about the same amount of time to do color from the start, except more time and detail on how how the colors interact.
Idk, I think the techniques are easier (though maybe not quicker), but the colors don't interact the same way with doing an overlay, so it kinda looks nicer I guess to do with color vs grey scale then color. But it's not too bad, and photoshop adjustments helps it pop and look just as good. : )
