Thanks. I have to admit, in general I'm a sucker for happy endings. The vast majority of my stories end happily, though I usually do try to throw in some surprises along the way as well.
It's funny...the next story I'm about to post is another one I like a lot. When I first wrote it, even though I wanted to give it a happy ending, I felt it wouldn't be realistic. So I wrote what I viewed as a more realistic ending...I thought that that's what most people would like. It turns out, most people loved the story but hated the ending...they would have preferred a happy one.
So it's always a tough call for me. I think I tend to like to put some depth in the plots during the story and if at all possible end it happily.
This one was an exception, because the only way to pull off the idea I had for this ending was for it to be pretty sad. But the thing is that this one was originally a mini-story, so it didn't bother me so much, because the other mini-stories had happy endings.
Anyways, thanks again for reading. This is my own personal favorite of the stories I've written, so it always makes me happy when people enjoy reading it.

Yes, I agree with your wholeheartedly. That was something I learned a lot back when I was writing and posting my stories regularly. I learned that it was always better to write my stories pretending like I was the only one reading it.
It's funny....the first three stories I wrote I made intentionally pretty short, because I didn't want them to drag on...I felt people would get bored with them.
When I started writing the fourth, I told myself that I wouldn't limit myself...I would let it be as long as I wanted. It ended up being super long, but it also ended up being by far my most popular story. I don't know if that would have happened if I had limited myself. So even though I'm not trying to make others happy, I've noticed that the more I make myself happy, the more others tend to respond well too.
It isn't always the case, however. Sometimes I'm very happy with something and it kind of falls flat with other people. But I've gotten over that...I've learned to always write what makes me happy.
So I appreciate what you're saying here. I agree that stories usually aren't best when they're autobiographical...I know for me, it's more fun to mix in a good bit of imagination. But there's all kinds of personal stuff that comes through in a lot of my stories too.
But yeah, thanks for these comments. It's a good reminder of the whole reason why I've ever done any writing in the first place.
