In today's episode, the expedition to the lands north of the Vale proper has turned up something Interesting. On one level, it shows that the ego of the Fair Folk in the Long Ago was pretty vast, but considering the particular fur involved, that shouldn't be that surprising...

So, the road-bucks work for the WPA, or Con-Ed. "Dig we must!"
"I CAUSE THIS TO BE MADE BY ME, IRENAEUS OF ATHSTAED AND OF ALBRIC TOR, FOR I WISH TO BE KNOWN BY MY ERECTIONS."
Something tells me that an Elfhamer wrote that inscription, just to take the piss out of their recent conqueror.

Da-yum. A road that's been under construction longer than the Gulf Freeway!
(For the uninitiated, the Gulf Freeway, as I-45 south of downtown Houston to its terminus on Galveston Island is known, has been under construction since 1946 or so. It was the first freeway in Texas. TxDOT has said that it was actually finished twice; they are universally adjudged liars and braggarts for this claim, as well as for the related one that construction will be completed this year.)

This is a curious artifact indeed! A serious scholar would want to cross-reference with the Borealikon, that patriotic epic (though recently proven erroneous in several details) of Irenaeus' exploits in the frozen North. Also the relevant passages in the Irenaead cycle of ballads. A fragmentary army chronicle is said to exist. And then, of course there is the image of Irenaeus and the Frost Lord's parley in the Donnerblitzenhoff Sketchbook which shows the two rulers hammering out the deal which requires the forces of Winter to physically infiltrate & invade Albric Tor before that season can lay claim to the Capital.
As every Persoc Tor University student knows, the Sketchbook shows Irenaeus without his tail. If this newly-rediscovered stele depicts him WITH a tail, well ... the implications are ... puzzling. The events which the stele commemorates must have been part of the same Northern Campaign, taking place not long before the meeting between Irenaeus and the Frost Lord. Did the moment when the Lacktail King decided to dispense with his false tail occur somewhere deep in the Wild Snows? Or, contrary to the popularly received version of history, did he actually lose his tail there, instead of in an earlier battle (or college-days laundry accident, as certain seditious legends maintain)?
I eagerly await further developments.
