I will admit, a good portion of the way I handled this chapter is the result of getting around a writing block. There was actually a really long delay between when I wrote Chapter 8 and when I wrote Chapter 9. There are a lot of issues further into the story that requires Richard to know what Thener should and shouldn't do. Now so far it's been instinctual and using his abilities as he should. But there is no rational reason they should let someone with full capabilities of a Thener Priest be allowed to just wander populated areas no problem. Especially with what will eventually be coming up later on. And I ran into a road block of figuring out how to teach Richard how to be a Thener without having to do several boring chapters where nothing really happens but Xanos explaining things. And so I decided that instead I'd just have him explain a tiny bit, then just jam all that information instantly into his head with a hand wave of it'll come available in time and I was able to start working on it again.
