I can't honestly remember, but is this the first time we've had this revelation about Hatchet? Either way, it's a nice addition to the lore of your werewolf world. Being a Chosen seems to be more a bane than a blessing at this point, though.
Poor Jack; I'm not too surprised that he's so clingy around Sammy, though hopefully he'll discover his own strengths soon enough. But first, he's got to survive Hatchet's alsation!
Now I think of it, Hatchet's choice of dog breed - and the fact that he calls her a 'perfect specimen' - gives me creepy callbacks to the events surrounding Sippe Wiegand. High time for Sammy to leave behind his old mentor, I think...

No, Hatchet was first said to be a Chosen waaaaaay back in the first chapter, when he's sent to Atlanta to put a stop to the feuding packs there.
Y'know, this is one of the earliest stories I wrote, and I hadn't thought about how Hatchet's observations might come off in light of the retcons I wounds up making regarding his experiences in Germany. He's remarking more about how all werewolves don't really know if they're wolves or people. Sandie the dog is 100% what she is. I think I stated way back in "Second Thought" that she was given to him as a gift. I figure she came from an old friend in Germany who bred them. Still, the next time I pass over these stories for revisions, I may tweak that line.
