I think its more that her brain is regressing beyond the point of congizance. In effect, she's going back to being totally babyish and unable to think at all.

Yeah, basically... you know how you probably can't remember anything before you were like 2-3? Thats because your brain wasn't developed enough for conscious thought. I'm guessing thats whats happening to her there.

The afterimages are caused by the brain processing faster than our senses can interpret,. and when that happens, Saccatic masking is neutralized. our brains remove motion blur when we move our eyes. If that doesnt happen it causes these after images.

Happens with illicit drug use.
