Oh I've seen the seaplanes with drop down landing gear in the floats, This was an older bird and definitely did NOT have the landing gear in the floats. Nor the ice runners on the bottom of the floats.

Oh yeah, the ones I've seen always have that tilted up front landing gear wheel in front of each float, plus you can, if low enough, can see the gear doors. Most of the seaplanes locally are twin float, usually amphibious or the boat hulled type with high monowing and drop down gear dropping down from the hull sides.

This bird was also late 30s vintage and biplane and it was quite slow plodding along the sky, allowing me a good hard look as it flew past.

I ran across a pilot who had a light aircraft (beautiful bird) and the floats for it sat in his hangar. I asked about this, and he told me the additional cost of insurance prevented their use.

Always love a good vintage aircraft. Couple years ago I built a 1/48 Boeing-Stearman Model 75 Kaydet as an aerobatic bird. Nice looking biplane.
