You forgot to clean (or decided not to) a few trees that are visible on her leg (i.e.: near the right knee) and in other parts. I actually think you were already aware of it, but being a quick sketch... :) so I'll give the only good criticism I can come up with to help you with those quick sketches: make your tiny-trees brush have more than 1 bitmap, preferably more than 3 that are slightly different from each other, that'll add a lot of dynamism to your quick backgrounds.
You can!. You can define custom brushes with pre-set colors AND with random content! :)
I don't exactly know how to do it in Photoshop CS4, but you CAN do it in The GIMP, and it is generally well known that if you can do it in The GIMP, you can do it in Photoshop.
You can download The GIMP here http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
Please check out the "sparks" brush they have there, it's colored and includes many random frames. Or check these tutorials on how to make your own Image Pipes/Hoses (that's the name The GIMP gave them):

I think you can save The GIMP brushes as Photoshop brushes, or you can just stay in The GIMP if you like it ;> (I doubt it, the interface is too different from Photoshop). Those tutorials may ultimately help you make your own colored randomized brushes (Image Hoses) for Photoshop, yay for technology!.
Then again you can do the full switch to Krita if you ever decide to paint and just paint, without doing so much image manipulation and composition :)

Interestingly enough, the "image hose" concept doesn't exist in photoshop at all. Its a paint shop pro thing. And all brushes are just monochrome. I guess I could just learn how to use GIMP also. In the past, whenever I've used it I've had a lot of trouble with it's lack of stability.
I'll give it a go though, and if not, I'll just write my own dedicated program for doing exactly what I want. It wouldn't take too long to do.

The GIMP has nearly never crashed on me. I believe the lack of stability could come from trying to operate on poorly supported Photoshop files. If you think it's worth the try, export the Photoshop layers as PNG files, and then in GIMP use "open as layer..." to open each of your drawing's layers, then operate on them. Optionally you can just use the GIMP for everything. As long as you use the native format, there should be no crashes. How long ago was the last time you tried it?.
