It was supposed to be such a good day! Karen and her friends were supposed to go hiking in the mountains. Then they missed their exit and somehow got lost in this desert like place. They tried to get back but the car ran out of fuel. With no idea how to get home, they eventually left their car behind and walked on foot.
After a few hours walking aimlessly over the rocks and sand, they suddenly heard a faint noise, like an explosion. Following the sound, they saw a figure in the distance. “Yes!” they thought, we must be close to civilization. The noise became louder and louder until it turned into a roaring thunderstorm. The ground began to shake. An earthquake? They looked at the horizon. Weird, the figure seemed to have become a lot bigger. Were they already this close?
A full minute passed until they finally connected the dots. What they thought to be a tiny figure on the horizon was actually a giant creature. And it wasn’t human at all. Towering in front of them, a single one of its toes was large enough that it squash all three of them at once. “What IS that?”, Karen’s friend Liz asked in disbelief. They all looked up at that creature's face as it looked down on them. The facial expression was difficult to parse. It showed neither happiness, nor anger. Just, … curiosity?
The humans made a step backwards. They wanted to say something, anything, but the situation and fear made them entirely speechless.
