Consortium 1-3: Shipment of Nothing- Chapter 8
And we finally get to see what the shipment is. And the fact that we literally had Eric explain everything about phasic cells and how they could be linked comes in handy now as we don't have to have a bunch of experts explain what would be common knowledge to each other. That's one of he main purposes in the early part of the story for Richard, Eric and Mige. That they serve to inform the reader about terminology and how the world operates in a more organic manner so that when these effects come in, the pacing doesn't have to get destroyed trying to halt and explain things at the reader. And then over time as there becomes less for them to explain, their character arcs really start taking off.
As for the side with Kinou it does make sense for them to still wear masks in this scenario. Yes, the human couldn't see them, but anyone looking in when the door opened could, and the less information the telepath gets of them, the less compromised their identities become. And when dealing with a professional, they won't even think of trying to scan the minds of the other Shadows in the room as that is an unnecessary risk. Especially against the Shadows it is simply far better to go in, do your job, and leave with their full pay. Though a part of me has this mental image of them using the Anbu black ops style masks from Naruto, but logically they wouldn't. Those would stand out too much. Instead they'd likely just use a mask that is specifically designed to look as generic as possible so that anyone looking at them at a casual glance wouldn't even notice that's not their real face.
