With the deed done I back away and assess. We somehow got through this. My tails give a little wag before I get myself back under control. I look over to Maria and how badly bruised and beaten she looks. I’m sure I don’t look much better.

“Is it over?” she asks.

I nod and she heaves a sigh before falling backwards onto the grass. I pad over to make sure she’s okay but she’s just breathing heavy, as am I.

“Is she going to be okay?” Lumen asks, watching the rocket members say a pokemon’s name before staring at the moon. The Chesnaught seems more intent on trying to keep the meowth from trying to sneak away.

“We’ll be fine. I have some potions in my harness at the top of the hill. We’re just exhausted. A couple dozen pokemon without a break takes a lot out of you.”

“You seem to be fine enough, though.”

“I can avoid attacks more than she can. And I still don’t trust you enough to let my guard down around you,” I say, the words causing Maria to heave herself back up to at least a sitting position.

“I suppose I deserve that,” Lumen shrugs.
