The Chesnaught coughs and Lumen turns away from us, accepting a vine-like rope that is handed to him and starts tying up all of the Rocket members to make sure they have no chance at getting away. Already I can start to see some of their features beginning to change.

“All you have to go on is my word. During the battle we were temporary allies so you could trust me enough because we shared a common enemy, but with that enemy defeated that removes that reason for trust. I’m sure you’ve observed us enough to know that given your current condition so long as I keep you away from Karn here we stand a good change of taking you two down as well. You are at a disadvantage and have no proof that my word has any value.”

“Can you blame me?” I ask, Maria finally heaving herself back up to her feet, though leaning against me a little bit for support.

“No, I cannot. If I was in your situation I wouldn’t trust me either. But let me put it this way to at least give you a reason to trust me tonight. If these Rocket members get away we don’t get paid. I know how accurate your flames are, I’ve seen it. You could very easily burn away their bindings if we were in a fight. Making us have to choose between being able to earn our rent or taking you out. But we cannot turn them in as they are now and instead have to wait till they return to a form that we can collect the bounty on. So it is in our best interest to just stay here and defend our catch. So if you left, we wouldn’t be able to do anything to stop you.”
