About halfway up the hill it finally starts sinking in that I get to actually continue being free for a while longer. A quick glance shows Lumen has made no motion towards us, instead debating with his Chesnaught companion with something or other. And I can feel something wet start to drip down my cheeks. Going into that fight was an incredibly stupid thing to do and I went down there fully expecting to be caught.

“I guess you get to keep being my slave after all,” I half laugh.

Maria pushes against me in response. “Don’t,” she says, her voice half cracking. “Just. Not right now okay?”

I turn and look at her and see that she too is crying and trying to keep it together after what we did. I nod and we complete the journey up the hill to where we had hidden our stuff. Maria goes to my pockets and pulls out a couple of super potions, though her hand languishes a moment where her ball is located. She then uses the potions on us and my body, still weak and exhausted, at least doesn’t hurt as much. After putting the empty phials away we go about putting our harnesses back on, though I note that this time she leaves her medal on the outside of the garment.
